I never got into "Twilight" mania. Is it worth Netflixing ? What does Michael Welch play in it ?
At a certain part in your life. Probably when too much of it has gone by. You will open your eyes and see yourself for who you are. Especially for everything that made you so different from all the awful normals.

I've been into Twilight from the beginning, before it became "cool" and I'm gonna be honest. If you've never read the books and only want to see the movie for Michael, it's not worth it. He's not a main character and is only on screen for 15-30 minutes.
If you're honestly interested in seeing the movie, I'm gonna say the same thing I (and TeeJay and Mel and just about everyone else) said to Deb, read the book first. Go see if they have it at your library and check it out. If you like the book, you'll probably like the movie. If you hate the book, you'll hate the movie.
It also depends on what kind of movies/books you like. Nothing explodes, no one gets hacked into pieces (that we see) and it's basically just a teenage love story.

I'm definitely going to see the movie sooner or later. But I just don't have the energy to read the books. I read my ass off every single day. But I read very few novels. Right now, I'm almost done with Strieber's The Wild. And I've got a big stack of other stuff to get too. Basically, I only get to read novels at lunch. I had to take a break from that so I can read the screenplay for The Runaways. I'm savoring every minute of that. I could read it in a couple of hours straight through, but I don't wanna.

I just realized I didn't answer your question on Michael. He plays one of Bella's best (human) friends, Mike. But Edward and Bella basically are the story, so like I said, he isn't in it much. He's just there to look cute and make quips about her and Edward.

In my opinion the book is better and I would never see a movie based on a book without reading the book first. I strongly recommend that you read the book first, Shell. You might hate the movie and not want to even bother reading the book if you see the movie first.

Mel, would you say that's true even if you're already a huge fan of some of the actors? Namely, Kristen, Mike, Peter Facinelli and Nikki Reed? How can that be? Is it a bad movie?

It's not a bad movie but they cut out some of my favorite parts of the book. Wanting to see it for Kristen though is probably worth it considering how big a fan you are of her's. Mike, Nikki and Peter aren't in the movie much though unfortunately.

I should also see it because I'm already sold on New Moon too, huh?

I mostly agree to what has been said before here. I liked the movie quite a lot, actually, but if you watch it without having read the books, I don't think you're going to like it as much. What it does is that it gives the book a visual outlet. I thought it covered the atmosphere in the book very well, and the characters. Of course a lot from the book was omitted, but that's just the nature of a novel adaptation into a 90 minute film.
You might appreciate the movie more if you like some of the actors. I think the main "problem" the movie has is that because it's leaving out a lot of details, people who don't know the books are confused by some of the actions and reactions in the movie. It doesn't make as much sense if you haven't read the book. You can also clearly see that it was an indie that wasn't made with a multi-million dollar budget.
I thought Michael was great in the movie, though he indeed doesn't have a lot of screentime. He captured the Mike Newton character very well.

Well, yeah, it also is very much a chick flick.

I haven't gotten around to seeing the first movie yet, but I will eventually. I might end up watching all four together one weekend someday. I think the books were terrific. Yeah, they're aimed at younger readers. So what? I'm glad they have something that gets them interested in reading. And, as I mentioned,I really like them, too.
As far as the movies go, I have great hopes for "New Moon". I hope it's as good as it looks. I think "Eclipse" is probably my least favorite of the four books, so I'm not looking forward to the third movie as much. But "Breaking Dawn" should be amazing.

My story with Twilight is: I had never even heard about the books until we met Michael Welch in LA in October. But then I wanted to see the movie and thought I should read the books first, so I bought them. I got five pages into the first book and I was hooked.

Here's a hilarious Movies in Minutes parody of Twilight. Possibly better than the actual movie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goix7jFXD9Q

That's the funniest thing I've seen in a long time! I love it when he saved her from the matchbox car.

I liked the ending, "wanna see me climb this tree?" "Can I come with you?" "No, you're too fat."
