Re: Favorite TV Series (not counting JOA)

It's interesting how one episode can ruin a series for you.  St. elsewhere would of made my list except I hated the last episode sooo much it ruined the whole series for me.

what is Key West??

Re: Favorite TV Series (not counting JOA)

Key West was incredibly short-lived, but insanely well-cast and so much fun.  Have you ever seen any of David Beaird's stuff?  He hasn't done a lot of work, but some of his more personal films like Pass The Ammo and Scorchers are real gems with some great, great people in them.  I'd love to know how Key West was conceived because it really seemed to be from his heart.  But it was sold as a riff on Northern Exposure.  Of course people joked about it being "Southern Exposure".  The premise was that a New York factory worker Irish writer wannabe played by Fisher Stevens wins the lottery and moves to where "Papa" used to live and write.  And of course, the Key is a quirky place where he meets all kinds of characters.  Meg Tilly played a whip-smart hooker with a heart of gold and lots of other wonderful actors had terrific roles.  A lot of Beaird's friends and stars of his previous films had parts in the show.  Most notably the brilliant Leland Crooke doing his best Cajun shtick as Gumbo.  I have every single ep on tape and my best friend Steph and I watch at least a couple of them every time she comes to visit me from Kentucky.

I understand about St. Elsewhere, but the end can't erase the fact that that show gave me some of the most incredibly emotional TV-watching moments of my life.

Freaks And Geeks is number one on my list of favorite shows tied with Joan Of Arcadia. I have the 8 disc edition yearbook dvd, soundtrack, volume 1 and 2 scripts, and my parents have the 6 disc edition dvd. Do you have Freaks And Geeks on dvd, Deb?

Re: Favorite TV Series (not counting JOA)

Deb, did you see the diners drive-ins and dives where they went to Fab's Hot Dogs in Reseda CA?  It is less than a mile from my house(and I pass it almost every day), and I have never been there, and of course I missed the show about it(I have seen most of the episodes but not that one).  Wondering what he had there etc.

I don't specifically remember that one, but if they air it again, I'll let you know.  They repeat them three times during the week.

Re: Favorite TV Series (not counting JOA)

I know what you mean about a single episode ruining things, Rick!  I also loathes the St. Elsewhere finale, but still love what the show was.  I also hated the last season of "Roseanne".  Can't believe someone besides me still remembers (& loves) the Jim Hutton version of "Ellery Queen"!

I love a bunch of stuff from your list, Deb!  I'll have to really think about it before I make out my list.:/  I love most anything Steve Bochco did in the 80s.

One of my all-time favorite shows was "Ed", without a doubt the best-ever series about a bowling alley owner/lawyer ever produced - bar none! tongue

Re: Favorite TV Series (not counting JOA)

Here's my list (in no particular order):

Roswell
Early Edition
The Pretender
The Flying Doctors
Third Watch
Grey's Anatomy
Private Practice
Prison Break
Lost
Medium
ER
Numb3rs
CSI:
CSI: NY
Nurse Jackie
Cold Case
Star Trek
Without A Trace
24
Trauma (short-lived as it was)
FlashForward

Obviously not a lot of classics among those. I've never watched a lot of TV when I was a kid, I got my first own TV when I was 17 or 18. And even then I didn't watch a lot of TV shows. I only really became a TV series "regular" in my mid- to late 20's. Hm... hmm Now, is that a bad thing or not? wink

What is the Flying Doctors?  I haven't heard of it and the title suggests so many different possibilities.

Re: Favorite TV Series (not counting JOA)

Kate might know it. smile It's an Australian TV show from the 90's, and it's about the Royal Flying Doctor Service in Australia. Basically, it was a bunch of Ozzie doctors flying around the outback, taking care of medical problems, mixed with your usual relationship and drama stuff.

I was a huge fan as a teen. Even made my Australia trip in '95 with a friend a total Flying Doctors tour, kinda like what Deb, Anne and I did in LA last year. We met three of the actors and got to see all the old props at Crawford Studios (the show had already ended by the time we visited and everything was put away in a warehouse). This was before the times of the internet, so my friend and I were members of a Dutch fanclub for a while (there's wasn't any German one). It was real fun!

Here's the title sequence (very tacky!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfyxThcqF3I

I have to say some of my favorites are Roswell, Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, 30 Rock, the Office use to be one of them (it's lost its touch for me...) Those are the ones I watch pretty regularly.  I watch Castle too because I love Nathan Fillion and anything related to him or Joss Whedon!

Hahaha yeah i do know the Flying Doctors...never actually really watched it though. But yeah with the outback being so vast there are actual doctors that have to be flown into the community, so it is vaguely based on truth with that. And TeeJay I totally forgot about Early Edition....I adored that show too!!
