To all my friends (my forum family) Deb, Samsy, TeeJay, Mel, Kate Warbee, and everyone else:

My $499.00 Dell laptop replacement for the last one, the $756.00 model that upped and died on me, has been dead for over a month now and has died out on me as well.

I had a feeling this was coming but I had not anticipated so soon, as well I should have seeing as how all cruddy Dell laptops seem to have a bad shelf-life of only 6 months (or at least that has been my experience with them).

And true to fate, the nature of these circumstances, and just my plain cruddy luck in life, this has been the case.
The hard drive failed and crashed. Leaving me with no net, no computer, and tragically worst of all... no secondlife.

Yes, I apologize for my seemingly abrupt and long absences. I am typing this up to you all with the use of a friends laptop for an hour this evening so I could explain my absence.
But also far more in my interest is not to lose all of you, my amazing Marquette board family and friends. :3

Bear with me and please have patience. Dell has won the battle but will never win the war. I will never buy from them again.
I will go with HP from now on as their PCs have never let me down.

I am getting paid in three days time from the date of this post and will be purchasing a brand new HP Desktop Pavilion model/computer bundle from my local Costco.
Soon I shall have internet access once more but I may or may not have access to SL for another month or so until I can purchase and replace the cruddy base graphics card with a better one.
I shall do my best to be back on here within a week but can make no promises. It all depends on my paycheck and my RL cost of living and to survive.
But if all else turns to bitter disappointment I shall at least have internet access and the ability to check my E-mail messages.

So... if you feel the dire need to reach me and converse within the next four or five days from now just contact me at my e mail address so that I may reply to you at least in that marginal and less exciting manner.
God rest my soul to an early grave should I ever be without you and my net and games for much longer... IT IS KILLING ME to be apart from everyone! D:

So sorry to hear that, Bree. I know how much it sucks to have no internet, I was without it for a few weeks when I moved to my new apartment a few years ago and had to switch providers. I was still lucky enough, though, to be able to go online at work.

Hope you get everything fixed soon and will be back here, alive and kicking. We'll be waiting for ya.

It's an awful story, Bree. I know a lot of people have problems with Dell. Me, I've had problems with HP. My laptop, Keith has been kind of a lemon and they have been NO HELP. So don't trust them either. I work for an IT company now and we sell a LOT of Dell. When you deal with them at the corporate level, they're actually pretty great, if you can believe that. We even get to deal with AMERICAN customer service reps. I sure hope you get a great computer that you love and have no trouble with really soon.

We have HP laptops at work, actually. Can't say mine is all that great, but I've not had major problems so far. Of course I don't really mess with it. Since we don't have administrator rights, we can't actually install or remove any software, so I basically just use it for normal office stuff (mostly Microsoft Office and internet). And I think we have the "business" line of laptops. Probably not something you'd buy as a private user.

Gaaaahh well I sold out and took what was available and cheapest and MOST WIDELY recommended for me in my area and bought a basic barebones HP pavilion desktop PC.

It seems to be running smooth so far. So long as I keep it clean, updated, free of dust, and be careful what I download while keeping an active virus/spyware protection program on it I am told it will be just fine and will at least last at the maximum three years (or more).

I am being really careful with this computer and lavishing affection, attention, and caution on it.
I have dubbed him Eli the II. XD!!! And all is well so far... keep your fingers, your toes, and your eyeballs crossed for me. LMFAO
Im gonna need it. Does anyone have an idea of what is the best antivirus software currently on the market that most are satisfied with?
Every single one says they are the best. ROFL. I have Norton 360 and I am told thats the best but Im not so sure.
Also, its like 80 bucks a pop for one year's protection. SIGH.

Glad you found something and you're back online, Bree. Hope it lasts forever. I use a freeware called Antivira along with the ZoneAlarm firewall and they've been excellent so far. You can Google them and give them a try, I guess. Though I'm not sure you can run them along with Norton. Have you already bought Norton?

BTW, I'm not the best person to advise you on this, so I should shut up and let the geeks have the floor...

I think Deb was talking about Avira Antivir: http://www.free-av.com/ I use it too and am quite happy with it. Because it's a free version, there's the occasional nag screen. I wouldn't really recommend Norton. It's expensive and clutters your system with crap you don't really need and sometimes have a hard time getting rid of.

Hmmm. I was told to beware of freeware protection programs and such but it does sound intriguing.

How solid is the foundation of the site that promotes it and the download itself? Is it safe and reputable? I will look into it. Norton seems fine for now.
No I havent bought it yet. I still have 60 days of free trial protection left so go me for buying time before I buy or need anything more.

That is the BEST feeling in the world... knowing something works and you are getting your money's worth. But I am worried in some point in time I am going to stumble and mess it up. Im so afraid of that... I worry a lot. LMAO. Eli will R.I.P. for now unless I can replace his hard drive. But his successor is being carefully tended and well taken care of. It's the best I can offer.

I agree that you shouldn't ordinarily trust those site, Bree. But if it's TeeJay tested and approved, it's good to go. Promise. I think she's better at computer stuff than the engineers where I work! She has taken excellent care of my last 2 machines and kept them clean, safe and in working order --- even though they're kinda crappy.

That site I linked is the official site that offers the software, so if any site is safe to download it from, it's that one. Freeware isn't always evil or bad, I know tons of great, capable freeware programs. I also recommend you install a firewall. I personally use ZoneAlarm (the free version), but there's other options out there too. Comodo Personal Firewall is also pretty good, but only recommended for people who aren't total computer n00bs.

Believe me if I could give that to you and I were rich enough to make that happen THIS WEEK... I would.
I think we all SHOULD meet up one day... we should all try to start fundraisers and chip in for a Chris-MB meetup event and base it somewhere awesome.
Like a nice hotel that would be classy, spacious, and close enough to all of us. It MUST have an indoor pool. That is a REQUIREMENT. ROFL.

The funds should go for flight tickets, food, and lodging, and we should all bring our Chris things and just have a HUGE Chris fest!!!
And If I could get you a brand new comp I would. Maybe one day... when I strike it rich with my singing talent. Im workin on it.
I have demo CD's but dont have the means to go to LA to promote. Im still trying to break my way into the industry.

In time, Ill work my way up there starting with college and certain classes.
Get some degrees... and go from there. *hugs Samsy*

Good luck with your singing career, Bree. My boyfriend is an aspiring musician and hes been playing gigs at a Greek restaurant. He has formed a duo with his friend Sky. She is a hippie punkrock girl and they're going to play together at the restaurant. Shes good friends with a guy that owns a recording studio and they will get free recording time. His dad also knows a friend that has a recording studio and he will get recording time for free there too. Hes written alot of songs and many about me. We're going to write together and record a few songs together.

Good luck to all three of you! I have a friend that has a recording studio self made/bought/setup all by himself in his OWN HOUSE.
So he and I are both singers and usually harmonize together at karaoke on the song "My Immortal" By Evanescence.
His name is David and he has AMAZING vocals for a guy.
Reminds me of emo/punk singers like Yellowcard.
Hes all sorts of win, that kid is!

im used to doing it on stage in front of drunk strangers in a bar but sometimes get too shy to do it for ONE person... how funny huh? LOL
I get awful stage fright sometimes when on stage live in front of people. My voice gets all weak and wavy and I cant breathe right.
I would most likely wind up being the type of singer who either records professionaly from home or in a studio only. Not sure if I could handle live touring or performances.
Gotta get over my fear so I can sing in person live in front of crowds as well as I do when I am home alone. LOL
