Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

Deb and I are currently working on this huuuuuge JoA story, called Butterflies. It's mainly about Joan and Adam. If you wanna read it, this is where you'll find it : http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3029235/1/

There's also an unadulterated version (R rated sexually explicit content!): http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3042947/1/

We're also working on a web version with pictures, you can find that one here: http://beam.to/joa-butterflies

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

That's not much of a teaser, TeeJay.  We'll have to post something here to tell people what it's about to draw them in.  For now, I'm going to post our author's notes to see if that might entice folks to check it out...

Summary:
Bad news prompts Adam to turn up on Joan's doorstep in times of need, paving the way for reconnection. Very dark and very angsty at first, more and more fluffy towards the end. This is a collaboration between Sisterdebmac and TeeJay.

TeeJay's Author's Note:
This started out as a one-shot, one that I wrote, titled "Butterflies". It was this really dark, angsty piece that I didn't think was worth posting. But since both Sisterdebmac and GermanJoan kept yelling for more of my stories, I eventually sent it to them, if only to shut them up for a while. (No offense, guys, I know what it's like to be craving more stories!)

And then something amazing happened. Sisterdebmac said she was so moved and inspired by my little story here that she wrote a second chapter. Completely out of the blue. Wow. That's when this thing developed a life of its own because I kept writing to continue Sisterdebmac's storyline and she kept continuing mine, each of us feeding off each other's ideas. It's been an amazing experience. Still is. I don't think I've had this much fun writing fan fiction before. Thank you. For everything. Especially brightening my office day right around 3:30 PM every day.

Sisterdebmac's Author's Note:
What an adventure this has been! I had no idea. I hadn't even finished my very first JOA fic (The Haircut) when I read TeeJay's first chapter of what became Butterflies. But as soon as I put it down, I knew that was not going to be the end of the fic. It has been a delightful back and forth since then. And there's no end in sight yet.

Also of note, I couldn't even read fics that one might consider smut before we got started on this fic. Now, I can't seem to stop writing them! But hey, at least in our story Joan and Adam are grown-ups. Somehow it just feels right that after all this time, they wouldn't be able to keep their hands off each other. So settle in for a little angst, a little romance, a whole lot of fluff... and if you dare to delve into the Mature Version of Butterflies, some serious smut.

Once again, I must say that if not for reading and falling in love with the stories of my two favorite JOA writers, TeeJay and Tote, I would not be doing this. Thanks to both of you for all your great work! And thanks to TeeJay for the help and encouragement, and the giggles.

Additional Note:
Due to some... well... heavy fluff, reader discretion is advised. I'd say from chapter 3 on, this gets quite juicy. Nothing too heavy, but let's just say that Adam and Joan are enjoying each other's physical proximity in very sensual ways. :-p Don't say you haven't been warned.

And this story is not the "whole story". We have a couple more scenes in between that aren't posted with this version of "Butterflies" because they have a definite R-rating. If you're interested in reading them, check the M-rated section of fanfiction.net. We're gonna post those scenes there. Think of this like extras on a DVD—the deleted scenes.

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

who wants the smut free version?:D i read quite a lot of your story. and it's really good. and the love making part is really exciting,  not vulgar at all. even the shower by himself part was good.:D. (i know that's a diferent part from the butterflies, but i just felt like mentioning it).
but even if you're writing exactly what i wished would have happened on the show, i don't quite feel as if i would have felt if it had happened on the show. that sounded a litlle crazy, right?
well, the only thing is that i really liked luke and grace, don't say anymore stuff about her beeing by. or,say it if you want it is you fiction:P.
anyway i had a nice time reading your stuff. the fiction and all the non fiction stuff you have around here.:)

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

Thanks so much for the compliments, Irina. I know what you mean when you say reading is not the same as watching on TV. Yeah, well, it's all we have left at this point... <sigh> But it is a whole lot of fun to see these characters in your head while you're writing the story. I sometimes have these "scene flashes" where they just appear in my mind and start talking to me. I love when that happens. A lot of my stories revolve around such flashes.

And thank you on the compliments about the shower story. That was kind of a milestone for me to write.

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

Irina, TeeJay's Water Drops fic was a milestone for me too.  Until I read it, I just couldn't see Joan and Adam as sexual beings as silly as that sounds and I couldn't read smut fics.  They were just kids and it didn't feel right thinking of them that way.  But after I read Water Drops, I read lots of other smutty fics that were beautifully written and became addicted to them.  I still never would've considered writing a sex scene between them at 17.  "The Haircut", which is all talk, is as far as that was going to go.  Then, I surprised myself with my own smut, once again, jumping off from something TeeJay wrote.  The material in These Things was the first A/J smut I ever wrote.  And now I can't stop.  LOL!  I just love them together as adults!

I'm sorry Grace's bisexuality makes you uncomfortable.  It's just how I always saw the character.  I don't expect anyone to agree with all of the choices we make in this fic.  But I stick by that one.  It'll never get graphic or anything because it's not Grace's story.  But she's important to Adam and Joan so she'll always be around.

Hope you continue with the fic.  We're just going to keep on writing it as long as it feels good to us.

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

OK, gotcha.  I don't blame you for wanting Grace and Luke to still be together if you were into that couple.  But I don't think I would have a clue how to write them still together after all those years.  Guess it's a good thing there are already tons of G/L fics out there to satisfy those of you who love them.

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

Dudes, I am so up too late tonight!  But Joan and Adam are talking to me and Grace just showed up too.  This is very frustrating because I've gotta go to bed.  But I'm finally figuring out a new chapter of this fic, I think.  I hope.  I haven't been able to get on the site all night and I was jonesing.  And then, finally, as I was about to shut down and go to bed, I'm here.  But I cannot stay.

Good night all.  Hopefully, I'll get on with the reclamation in my dreams and wake with new ideas tomorrow.

Deb

PS: How do you post pics here again?  I'm not sure how long I can wait to post "my" Linus.  And Anne, you should post yours soon too.  We should each get to choose one initial pic for our launch of the countdown.  It's only fair, right?

So you finally started Reclamation? Cool! Can't wait! I, for one, went to bed early enough. And overslept. Yeah, thank you. Finally looked at my alarm clock when Eli was screaming at me from my cell phone for the umteenth time and I went: "Are you kidding me?!" It was 7:30 then. And the first time the alarm went off was at 6:40. Yikes! So I jumped out of bed, got dressed, made myself a quick mug of tea and some toast (that I ate in the car) and left the house at 8. Just in time to be in the office on time.

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

Well, the next chapter that you haven't read yet will be November, and that's one of mine. And while I already have something like 17 pages written, it's still not finished. I really hope to get back to it since I pretty much already mapped out what I wanna write. Now I just need to sit down and let the characters talk to me. I hope some of that will happen over the weekend.

A different, unrelated question: Can you come up with a good tagline for Fanboys?

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

A good tagline for Fanboys. Let me think about that, I already have to think about a good ending for my Lost Secrets Fanfiction, so I can think of that too.
I wanna finish that story soon. I'll try as hard as I can, I promise. Oh, and I also will finish translating the JoA recaps soon. But I'm sure there will be a few mistakes, because there are some words I don't know. And I also can't remember the most what they said in the German version, so I just translated it how I think it sounds good. I hope that's okay. I have some old German JoA episodes on video but since our VCR is broken I can't watch them anymore. Not that I would do that ... I hate the German version, you know that.

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

I'll e-mail you when I'm home, Deb. I'm still at work and busy, so I can't chat now. Sorry! Not sure how long I'll be in the office today, but I wanted to get a few things done before I leave. I also really need to buy a few things at the grocery store before I get home, so I will probably not be home before 8. And you'll be at lunch then, so maybe we can talk after 9. I'm sorry you're having a cluster f*** day... We had a power outage here at work for half an hour and it took another half hour to get all the servers back up and running, so things haven't been running smoothly here either.

I haven't read the above posts because I don't want any accidental spoilers.  I printed out everything that's up on ff.net so far.  I'm not sure when I'll get a chance to read it, but hopefully sometime next weekend.  I have a civil service test coming up on Saturday for a different job (sort of a backup if I don't get the one I really want), but after that I'm sure I'll be ready to relax and just read.

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

Deb, can I just quickly say thanks for your sweet Author's Note on Reclamation. I didn't see that before now. You know that I wouldn't have come this far on Butterflies without you either, right? Heck, if it weren't for your second chapter, this story would only be one chapter long and would have ended on this sad, torturous note. Poor 22-year-old Adam. We would never have seen him this happy and this grown up. I'm glad we managed to drag him out of Joan's bed (and back into it, so to say). smile

Hey, the way this thing has gone back and forth and really far forward has never happened to me before.  It's just too much fun.  I like how we just kind of fit together somehow, as different as we are.  I hope people are enjoying it even a fraction as much as I am.
