Yeah, dude. Big time. I just watched episode 3x03 ("Further Instructions"), and what the friggin' hell is going on??? Is Desmond a clairvoyant?
SPOILERS COMING UP, so don't read on if you don't wanna know what happened in the episode!
Here's a few things I have to say:
- Loved Boone coming back for this episode. Ian looked very yummy, even though I didn't really dig him in season one. But those eyes and the long hair just got to me. However, it wasn't just the visual aspect. I really liked it that they chose Boone to bring Locke that message, drug-induced though it may have been. The scene at the airport was just plain creepy. But somehow I immensely enjoyed seeing all these characters how they would be in real life, not covered in muck and sweat.
- Justin Chatwin was in this one (Deb told me before I watched it). And, Deb, I didn't mind the short hair, it suited him. (Why do I always talk about how people look? You'd think I'm some horny chick who just watched for the visual pleasure... ) And he did his job well, I never suspected he was a mole. Locke didn't shoot him, did he? It looked like Eddie walked away, but knowing this show, I wouldn't put it past them to have made Locke shoot him a second after they made the cut after all. And, boy, do I wish that Chris would do a guest role like that some time!!
But coming back to Justin's character: As soon as they started talking about fertilizer and greenhouses, I suspected this had something to do with cultivating weed. How did Locke get tangled up in that?? He is such a mystery. Wonder when we'll learn what got him into that wheelchair.
- Going home. Okay, this was actually in the episode before this one. What's with the promises of sending Jack home? Is that real? Were Walt and Michael really sent home? Are they not gonna be on the show anymore?
- Talking extras. I realized they brought in a blond chick and a dark-haired guy at the end, two of the plane crash survivors who quizzed Charlie, Hurley and Locke about what happened after they drag in Mr. Eko. Are they gonna become regulars?
- The Others. The plot thickens. I can't wait to learn of their motives and what they are actually doing on the island. They're not the enemy? Oh no? Then what are they? And why would they keep Jack, Sawyer and Kate like prisoners, making them work like slaves? If they're oh-so on their side, how come they treat them like scum?
I think overall, I liked this episode best of the season three ones so far. I don't know why, but the first two didn't really capture me that much. Not that they were bad, but they didn't leave me hungering for more. Which this one did. Can't wait for next week!

I think the giant lab in which the survivors are lab rats theory is getting quite a workout this season. I really didn't think they'd actually go there with the show, but it looks like that's the plan now. Guess we'll see.

Agree with you completely on Boone. For some reason, Dead Boone is more interesting than Live Boone. Didn't care for him in Season 1, but I liked his current look. He would be an interesting spirit guide; didn't seem to have a lot of resentment for what Locke did to him, which was interesting.
I've often thought I'd love to see Chris as a character on Lost, especially a regular. I don't believe Jack will be going home, at least not to the home he knows. I doubt Michael and Walt ended up where they thought they would. Maybe this way they're leaving things open so they can bring one or the other actors back later, but it's a good way to deal with a child actor who would be growing much faster than his fictional counterpart.
The extras are going to become regulars. I guess we're supposed to assume they've been there all along but have just kept quiet till now. Once again, I resent it when a show I like insists on bringing in new characters, though Desmond was a welcome addition. I like Eko too, but I think a lot of it depends on how the character is written.
I'm not as enthralled with Lost as I used to be, especially in Season 1, but I'll still watch it faithfully. There's a lot I want to know, and I think we'll eventually get more answers. Not before we have a lot more questions, of course!
I don't know what's going on with the Others. I don't like any of them, except the kid who was caught escaping, and maybe Alex, who I assume is Rousseau's daughter. I want to know more of the real story of the Others. I don't think I believe a word that Ben (Henry) says. I definitely don't think he can be trusted. If they were the good guys at one time, they don't seem to be anymore. Then again, many "bad guys" really think they're doing the right thing, and their cause is just, so it's more a matter of perspective than objective reality. From the viewing audience's perspective, I'd say they're up to no good as far as our crash survivors are concerned.

Ah, yes, I'm slow. It didn't occur to me that Alex is probably Rouessea's daughter. Duh! They didn't name the character Alex for nothing. Nothing is for nothing on this show. I didn't care for the Boone thing actually. I mean, the premise was interesting, but I don't know.
As for the characters on Lost rotating a little bit, they have said all along in interviews that they'll be doing that. It's annoying but it's the way this show goes. I do miss Walt. Not so much Michael. I had really grown to care about Ana Lucia and they offed her. I hated that. They introduced a very conflicted character there and made me give a damn and then they took her away.
What do you guys think about the way they seem to be trying very hard to make Sawyer more sympathetic? I mean he always has been to a degree. But they seem to really be turning it on this year.
And I liked the kid the others had imprisoned too because he was played by Blake Bashoff, who was Eric Black on Judging Amy for for a couple of seasons. He's a wonderful actor. Oooh, I just looked him up and he did an ep of MIracles. Another reason to want to get that box set!

Oh, I made the Alex/Danielle connection a long time ago. I think ever since we learned about her in connection with that Claire episode, where Claire has flashbacks about her being a pregnant lab rat somewhere in the bowels of that Dharma facility.
I didn't care so much for Desmond, but I don't mind him too much. Shannon really got on my nerves, she was one character I wasn't sad seeing her go. Yes, Anna Lucia was an interestingly conflicted character, but I also wasn't too attached to her. I also wonder if we'll ever see Libby again. She seemed to have some significance to what was/is going on, especially in connection with Hurley.
Let's see about those new extras who are gonna be regulars. I'll reserve judgement until I've seen what they're gonna do with them.
Oh, God no, Ben/Henry can't not be up to no good! He is definitely NOT a good guy. I can't see The Others not being the bad guys.
The Miracles box set, yes. I actually found a Swedish DVD store site that sells a lot of US DVD, including the Miracles set. And there's no postage, plus this would not have to go through customs. Which is great. It was around 45 EUR there. I might just order it one of these days. Nag me a little, Deb, and I'll do it. And I'll send you a copy (shhhh!). You too, Anne.

Yes, I still don't have started watching Lost yet. I will soon, but I'm still stuck with Numb3rs. And yes, it's because of David Krumholtz. My backup guy.

I never liked Sawyer, but he's improving slightly. I agree they're trying too hard to make him nicer. I like Desmond, partly because I think he's attractive, but I also want to know more about the character.
Love David Krumholtz!
About Miracles: Check it out, everyone! It's an excellent show. It's one of those where the network screwed up big-time. First, there was very little publicity. I thought it looked interesting when I first heard about it, then forgot about it when the new season came around. I caught the 4th episode, and was really intrigued. The next episode was pre-empted for one week, maybe two, and when it finally did air, I missed it. That was Chris's episode, "The Bone Scatterer". Incredible episode, and very, very satisfying. The guy who played his father also played Lu's rapist on Strong Medicine, and I think he was also in the ep of "Judging Amy" that Chris was in. Love to hate that guy! The sixth ep was fascinating, and got me totally hooked on the show, and was a real cliff-hanger. The seventh...they didn't air it. Cancelled the show, because there weren't enough viewers, probably because nobody knew when to find it. Not to mention it was scheduled for Fridays, 9:00 I think, not the best time for the viewers they were looking for. However, it was a terrific show, and it had a lot of the same elements JoA had, with a lot of big questions like, why is all this weird stuff happening, and is the main character getting info from God, or Someone Else? I liked both the main characters quite a bit, and I enjoyed all 13 episodes. Plus the extras are great. Nothing about or from Chris, but a lot of info on the background of the show, inspiration, etc.
I highly recommend the DVD set of Miracles, however you come across it.
Sorry, back to "Lost" again: Great show, but you have to go back to the beginning and catch it from the start, or it will make little sense and probably become very irritating very quickly.

Yes, I watched Miracles when it aired too. And chased it wherever they moved it to till they gave up. I love Skeet Ulrich. Have ever since the movie Touch. I like Angus MacFadyen too. Also, that show was right up my alley. Of course, I didn't know who Chris was when I saw it, anymore than I did when I saw him on Judging Amy or Boston Public. I never connected the dots. Now that I've had a copy of the ep for a while and I've seen it a handful of times, I think it's pehnomenal. I'd love to have that box set. It's just insanely expensive. And going back and watching the Judging Amy ep after you become a fan of Chris's is a must. He's brillaint in it.
LOL! We mentioned in our Miracles recap about Gregory Harrison being in all three of those shows with Chris. You haven't had time to read any of our JOA or movie/show recaps yet, have you? They're kind of opinionated, maybe even a tad snarky.
As for Lost, I really, really like the show, but I'm not married to it anymore either. Still, I've never missed an ep.

Amazon (U.S. version) has used copies of "Miracles" from about $27 U.S. on up. Region 1, though, so it might not help much. The list price is pretty expensive for just a half-season, but I really loved the show. I also love Skeet and Angus. I'm not sure if Skeet's latest series, "Jericho", has started airing in Europe yet. It's...interesting. I like post-apocalyptic stories, and I"m not super-picky about "real science" since it's not a subject I know much about anyway. I'm enjoying the show, but the nitpickers are having a field day with it.
Haven't read the recaps yet, but I'm looking forward to it. I've got some of my own on Live Journal, and some recaps of some Strong Medicine eps as well. It's been so long since I've updated that particular journal, or even looked at it, I'm not sure what's on there anymore.

Oh, man, could you post some of your Live Journal recaps here on the appropriate boards so we could read them? I'd love to get your take on both JoA and SM. No one but me has seen much SM.
Oh, I'm watching Jericho too, of course. It probably won't last because it's pretty bleak. None of my friends are watching it. Too scary and downbeat for the real-world avoiders. I think it's OK, if not spectacular. I'll stick with it for as long as it's on.
As a fan of Angus and Skeet, I have to ask, have you seen Skeet in Nobody's Baby (Mary Steenburgen's in it too)? Or Angus in A Woman's A Helluva Thing? Both very entertaining, quirky movies that gave them really fun characters to play.

Hm, I haven't seen those two movies. I saw Skeet in The Craft, Scream, Touch, and As Good As It Gets. I saw Angus in Equilibrium, Spartacus, and Second Skin, which was great. Looks like he's going to be in Saw III. I haven't been able to bring myself to watch the first two. I like some horror movies, but torture? Nope, not a fan.
Jericho's been picked up for a full season, actually. It's doing a lot better in the ratings than I ever expected. None of my friends are watching it, either. Everyone I know is the type of person who would pick it apart for the bad science.
I'll take a look at my journal and see what recaps are there. I'll post whichever ones I can find here. Which would be the best thread to post them in?

Post JoA recaps on the JoA board in your own thread. Post SM recaps in the SM thread on the Chris Onscreen board.
What did you think of Equilibrium? I've seen it like 5 times and I really love it even though it's cheesy and silly and rips off everything from Logan's Run to Matrix to 1984 to Brave New World, and on and on. It was just really fun to watch.
That surprises me about Jericho. My friends aren't the type to pick apart the science. They're the type to avoid anything that seems even remotely downbeat.

Region 1 is not the problem, both my DVD player and my PC(s) can play them. The problem is the postage and the customs fees. If I order them at amazon.com and have them sent to Germany, I'll pay around $7 for postage and another $10 for customs. But we'll get the box somehow, some time. Not to brag too much, but I am luckily in the position where I don't have to think about whether something costs 20 EUR more or less (not that I'm filthy rich or anything). One of these days, I'm gonna get that kick where I really wanna have the DVDs and I'll just order them. It'll happen. Nagging might help (Deb, Anne?).
No, Jericho isn't airing over here yet. Even if it was, I wouldn't be watching it on the TV. It'd be dubbed into German. No, thank you. Especially not when I know Skeet's and Sprague's original voice. I've seen two episodes when I was with Deb in Atlanta in September/October. It looked like a good show. I'm a scientist myself (biologist), and sometimes I do pick things apart, but I can also very well sit back and accept faulty science if it suits a certain storyline. Not that I know so much about radiation anyway. I could easily get Jericho off the internet, but I watch too many shows as it is. I don't really wanna add another one at this point.
There's gonna be a Saw III? Wow. That needs to go on my to-watch list. Once it makes its way over here. Might take a while to catch in the theaters too. Saw II took me almost two or three months after German release until they finally showed it somewhere without dubbing.

What can I say? I liked the first two. Even though they were sick and twisted and gross and scary and made me flinch more than once. But maybe that's what I liked about them. Every once in a while I need my horror fix. And in comparison to craptastic movies like Freddy vs. Jason, this one actually did capture my attention, Chris or no Chris.

Deb, I hated Equilibrium. Good cast, but the movie did nothing for me. I know some people liked it very much, but it just didn't work for me. I can't even pin it down to exactly what the problem was, but it didn't have the emotional impact on me that it should have.

I have never heard of that Equilibrium movie, but I don't like the Saw movies. I have seen the first one in cinema, but I didn't like it. When it comes to horror movies I rather watch The Grudge or The Ring. And not only because of Amber Tamblyn.

Don't know Equilibrium either. But, see, Anne, that's where we differ. I thought The Ring wasn't bad, but it didn't do much to me in terms of making me squirm or flinch. But that's the interesting thing, that we agree on a lot of things and don't agree on others. Life would be so boring if everyone liked the same thing, right?

See to me, a movie like Saw is violence against movie-goers and I have a problem with being assaulted at the movies. I like my horror a little more cerebral, I guess. Might explain why my favorites are things like The Silence Of The Lambs, The Sixth Sense and The Changeling (which I hear they are remaking). Oh well, to each his or her own bucket of gore, I guess.

The Sixth Sense is horror to you? To me it wasn't horror. It was kind of ... supernatural or something like this, I think. But that's only me of course.

I agree with Anne, Sixth Sense isn't horror. But I don't think Deb meant to say it was a horror movie, right? It was a movie that played with your psyche, with your perception. I love Silence of the Lambs, and I love The Sixth Sense. More than any of the Saw movies.
Yes, both Saw movies were definitely gory, but they weren't the slasher kind of horror movies. In fact, they were very psychological. They rather played with what you thought was going on than showing it to you. That's probably why I like them so much, they rather suggest to you to imagine what'll happen or what happens than show it. I mean, I do admit that there's a lot of blood and a lot of violence, but they are nothing like Freddy vs. Jason.

I also loved The Sixth Sense but watching it a second time was kinda boring ... because I already knew the end. It's one of these movies I can only watch one time, but it's still a good movie. A very good one, to be exact.

What bothers me about the Saw movies and Hostel and all these new wave type horror movies isn't the gore onscreen. It's the depravity behind the whole concept. It's like those old Spanish horror movies of the late 70's and early 80's. They're just vile. Shrams said something about "torture" and I guess that's what really, really turns me off. 90 minutes of watching people get tortured. No thanks. We see enough of that in the real world these day. And I just don't find it entertaining at all.
Yes, The Sixth Sense is a horror movie, it's a psychological horror movie, just like the other two I meantioned. Another favorite of mine is the musty old 70's flick, The Legend Of Hell House. I just love being creeped out without being grossed out. And it's nice to have at least one character I actually care about to root for.
Crap like Freddy Vs Jason, to me that's like a very bad cartoon. It's not scary because it's just mind-numbing scene after mind-numbing scene of people I couldn't give a rat's ass about getting mangled. Whatever. And that one was worst of all because it was two hours of watching unkillable monsters try to kill each other. Hello, hidesously boring, much?
