Agh, that sucks. Good that you'll be in drive-thru awhile, though. >.> I, uh, tend to write long chapters.

It was fun talking to you too. I gotta sleep now too, actually- I need to start waking up early for *groans* school.

Deb, I wrote more of the scene in Joan's old bedroom and sent it back to your work email.

There's nothing wrong with long chapters. smile Ours tend to get longer and longer as we keep writing. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Re: JoA: Adam & Adam/Joan stories

Well, it IS a bit ridiculous when one single chapter turns out to be over 70 pages long, forcing us to have to then break the chapter into parts.  But I ain't complaining.  It's too much fun.  The long, deep ones are my favorites.

Re: JoA: Adam & Adam/Joan stories

70 pages... Wow. I don't think I've gotten that high yet. I've written a 32-page chapter before, but that's about as high as they get. At first long chapters are intimidating, but once you really get into a story, then it's impossible to make you stop.

Impossible to stop is right.  I don't care how long or short they are, as long as they're entertaining.  big_smile

Yeah, and if they're short I always find myself wanting more (unless the ending is satisfying).

Re: JoA: Adam & Adam/Joan stories

Ok so, my fanfic journal is offically off hiatus status, I just posted a new Adam/Carl story.  I'm not exactly proud of it, but at least it's something... I can't believe I just said that. yikes

I honestly don't have the same problem with stopping as you guys (obviously).  I just get so far with an idea and then it's like "ok, that's a good ending" and the entire story is about half a page long.   Not only did fanfiction rot my brain, so did drabble writting. smile

Re: JoA: Adam & Adam/Joan stories

But I love your dabbles!  They're better than some entire books I've read.  tongue

I think we've found a nice partnership.  You can add some of your dabbles to our our long, drawn out stuff and make them a million times better!  lol

Re: JoA: Adam & Adam/Joan stories

Well, here's a quote from TJ from her review of my new story: "Laura, you gotta work on your endings and make them... you know... later."    But here's the good part: 32 to 70 page stories/chapters are not something you need to worry about from me, I rarely manage to hit five.   Some people can argue that that's a good part, in my mind it is.

I really couldn't blame drabbles (stories that are exactly 100 words, no more no less, for anyone who doesn't know), I've never been able to right long, drawn out chapters or stories (exept when I wrote a 48 chapter story with chapters averaging 10 pages each) ... I just end getting annoyed with it because I like just finishing it up to share it.   It's just gotten worse in the last year or so, when I discovered the art of drabble.

Everyone has their strengths.  Yours is that you can tell a story in a page or less.  Your stuff is so much fun to read, especially when you just need a quick fix of something to make your day.  smile

Re: JoA: Adam & Adam/Joan stories

I've been reading your drabbles since last night practically non-stop (not sure how many more I have to go...), and I love them. Some of them seem to end abruptly, but that's the thing about them- somehow, it just works. I know I could never write drabbles because I'm too drawn into long chapters. Being able to move someone with only a few hundred (or less than a hundred) words is truly amazing. A lot of your stories I've found myself in love with.

Re: JoA: Adam & Adam/Joan stories

Thanks.

This is seriously not me trying to be annoying or whatever, I'm just finicky about certain stuff... since I'm writing for mostly challenges with rules about the word count, I haven't written anything (that I know of, for JoA at least) that's under 100 words and if I do have something somewhere that's under 100 words I'm breaking a couple rules.

Re: JoA: Adam & Adam/Joan stories

=P Oh, that's fine. I was just being vague. I don't really look at the number of words for drabbles, and I didn't mean anything by the "less than a hundred" statement. Either way, you still are able to create very reasonable situations and entertaining stories with not very many words.

Re: JoA: Adam & Adam/Joan stories

Cool.  Read your new one.  Giggled all the way through it.  TeeJay and Anne will too.

Typos, though...

He didn't. "How'd you do that?"

She shrugged. "It's a gift."

"And you couldn't have used you gift

Shouldn't it be he did.

And your gift.

Otherwise, perfection.  big_smile
