In this special feature on the S2 set, you get to hear the actors read a scene that never made it into the final cut of the ep. We don't know if it was shot and edited out, or what. But here is a transcript, for your entertainment...
Act II opens in the high school hallway, Joan walking to class alone. Grace appears, falls into step. They walk for a few beats in silence, glancing at each other, reading their moods.
JOAN:
Hey.
GRACE:
Hey.
JOAN:
You okay?
GRACE:
Me? I'm always okay. Can't be disappointed when you know the world's totally unjust.
JOAN:
That's inspiring. I'm fine being alone, you know? You don't have to keep me company.
GRACE:
Oh yeah, I forgot, you have your knitting.
JOAN:
You think I'm psycho, don't you?
GRACE:
Why do you think I'm your friend? You know, in the 19th century women formed textile collectives to use domestic arts for economic empowerment. They were considered radicals.
JOAN:
I am a radical?
GRACE:
And a psycho.
JOAN:
Well, at least I'm not distracted by some guy all the time.
GRACE:
Yeah. Rove said you wouldn't even talk to him about getting fired.
JOAN:
Is that why you're here?
GRACE:
No. I was just talking.
JOAN:
To him.
GRACE:
Well, it just seems kinda cold.
JOAN:
He lost his job because he was so upset about cheating on me. I'm supposed to feel sorry for him? Nice to know you're not taking sides.
And Joan takes off. Grace stands there alone for a moment, then Adam comes up.
ADAM:
Hey.
GRACE:
You lost your job because you were doinking Bonnie?
ADAM:
What? It's complicated.
GRACE:
Yeah, I guess that's why you left that part out. I'm through being in the middle, dude.
ADAM:
Yeah. I'm sorry. It's just, uh... I don't know, I just want it to be okay again, or just over.
GRACE:
Yeah, me too.
LUKE:
Hey, Grace. (beat) See you later.
(to Friedman)
Maybe I should just...
FRIEDMAN:
Post-breakup custody battle. Not our concern. Our concern is this afternoon, my house, unlimited Sims. My mom's at her vitamin seminar, so we have the place to ourselves.

I love that! Wish we could have seen it as a deleted scene, but we already know there are no deleted scenes on the S2 box set.

I saw the table read. It's too bad they took this scene out. It's such a great one. And I can really picture it in my head.
And the moment between Grace and Joan was amazing. We really don't see them having any close relation friend moments like that.

I agree!

The table read was overall awesome. I loved seeing the chemistry the actors had, even during their first time through (and the Luke and Friedman scenes killed me every time).
Seeing that scene in full, living color would've been amazing. I always liked the interaction Joan and Grace have, as the two least likely friends in the world. And Grace's "doinking Bonnie" line made me fall over.

Poor Chris though. He looked so down in that table read. I wish BH & Co had the guts to film the Trial & Error table read. That would've been amazing.

Oh, man, yes. It would've been interesting (and totally heart-breaking) to see the actors reading through the episode they never wanted. I wanted to hug Chris while watching the table read, but I couldn't figure out why. This had been before I read the interview, so now I really understand why.

I just wish Chris wasn't wearing something straight out of Luke Girardi's wardrobe.

He was wearing that sort of dorky red polo shirt with white stripes. It looked more like something that Luke would wear... It wasn't horrible or anything, but it's not my favorite choice of attire on Chris. I didn't like the toque either. Dorky. But then who am I to judge what he wears? He still looked gorgeous. (Rick, I apologize for the drooling, but you'll have to put up with that every now and then.)

Aw, I thought he looked cute. Still, it was odd to see him without a hoodie on. I was like, "what? Where's Adam's hoodie?!" and I whined. It really does look like something Luke would wear, though.

At least he's wearing a hoodie in the little interview snippets. A burgundy one, too. (We have this in-joke about his burgundy hoodie...)

I bet there is a video somewhere of all the table reads, including "Trial and Error". But judging from the interveiw with Chris, I bet that table read was not pretty. My guess is that there was a lot of argueing during that one. So, I'm sure they wouldn't want to release that one.
As to the drooling...NP.

I don't know that they would necessarily videotape all the table readings. But then, who can say, really? I wish BH was more active online. She has a blog, but she doesn't do much with it.

You remember the deleted scene between Joan & Grace and Adam & Grace that they did in the table read but that didn't make into the episode? (See first post in this thread.) Looks like when I was testing Final Draft, I wrote down the scene in script format. For anyone who's interested, here you go:

The table read was fun to watch. I wish Mary & Amber would've gotten into it more, though. At times, I felt like they were just reading, as opposed to really testing out the material. /make sense? Michael and Aaron were hilarious. They must be so much fun together.

Well, you know the table read is the very first time the actors read the script together. You can look at it as the first day of rehearsal if you like. That's why it feels kind of cold. Poor Chris seemed to be really depressed by the material.

A warm welcome to the board from me as well, Courtney. I thought the same thing, Amber didn't seem like she was trying to sounds like Joan. Maybe she hadn't really read the script very thoroughly before the table read and hadn't had a chance to learn her lines yet. What I loved most about it is the deleted scene between Adam, Grace and Joan.

Thanks for the welcome! /late.
I had no idea it was their first look at the script. Some of the other actors just seemed so familiar with the dialogue that it was bizarre how... distant (?) Amber and Mary were to it. And agreed, the Adam/Grace/Joan scene was a real loss. You've lost your job because you were doinking Bonnie? So Funny. I think that will be my new signature quote.

It's the first time they read the script together. They probably get it a day or so before that. You know what else I find interesting about table reads? There's a pecking order. Each person has a very specific seat at the table. Chris had a wonderful seat, didn't he? Right between Mary & Becky, directly across from Amber.

I really liked watching the table read, I wish we could see more.

I agree. I mentioned to Chris that I thought it would've been really bold of BH & Co to put the table read for Trial & Error on the DVD instead of Common Thread. If they really believed in that script and what they were doing, they should've stood up for it. They should've done a commentary track for it and defended it. I honestly think that as soon as it aired they immediately wished they hadn't done it.

I think so too, not saying anything seemed to say even more. It was whimpy. Do you think BH would ever speak about it now?
Offline
I don't know. I've never seen or her heard speak to it. I wonder if anyone has asked her in an official interview. If not, someone should. Anybody know how to get hold of her?
Lately, I've also begun to wonder if anyone would still care about the show if it hadn't ended in a mass of contradictions and frustrations and open questions.
Have you read any fanfic?
