Re: 2007 Emmys

There's a lot worse stuff on television today than GD, no reason to censor her or Katherine Heigl for swearing.   I could tell where she was heading when I watched it, so I'm guessing the producers did too.   They said it yesterday on CNN, they took away Sally Field's right to free speech.

Re: 2007 Emmys

Well, obviously, they did.  It's a fact that the FCC has no problem with god followed by damn on primetime TV anymore.  They use it on dramas all the time.  As someone said online today, it would've passed the censors on the show Sally WON for.  It was FOX censorship because they're a tool of the Bush administration.  Period.

The show was on a 5-second delay, they could've just bleeped the GD, like a normal show on a normal network would.  Instead, they cut away to the Black Disco Ball Of Death.  They don't care about GD.  Their president called the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA "a goddamn piece of paper."  And they think that's perfectly all right.

Their president called the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA "a goddamn piece of paper."

See?  They don't care about GD.  Even their president said it.   If they cared about that, it's hypocricy.   Having a mind of your own in America (especially if it's against the war or Bush) is not allowed.    Just that simple.  What free speech?

But a lot of people seem to be on Sally Field's side.   They like her!  They really, really like her!

Re: 2007 Emmys

I'll fill you in on Sally Field's speech.  She won best actress for her show Brothers and Sisters, where she plays a mother.  She said that the award was in honor of mother's everywhere who have to wait and pray that their children come home safe.  People started cheering when she started talking about the war, she lost her train of thought and the next thing you know the Black Disco Ball of Death was on screen instead of her and we couldn't hear anything.

The part that was edited out she said "if mother's ran the world there would not be so many goddamn wars in the first place!"   All we heard was "if mother's ran the world", then her speech was over.

I might be a little off with the quotes, but I think I got the main jest of it.

Re: 2007 Emmys

thank you !!! i looked up the emmy's official site and i found the speach and you quote is exact. i really don't think there is anything to censor there. that's odd!!!
i also read what the last line of the awards presentor after the win of the soprano's. " if the oworld was rulled by gangsters, hmm..., maybe it is " . that's funny!!!:D

some of the shows were never broadcated over here and i also did not download them. but some of them even if i never saw a single episde i just don't feel like watching.
" ugly betty" is one example. taking a telenovela and making it americanized sounds so silly and like there were a bunch of people who could not come up with an original ideea. and i am soory because i like america ferrara and mrs williams.
and alos i don't feel like giving " the office" a shot. steve carell seemed so silly in the 40 year old virgin!!!!

what do you think of the shows? have you seen them??? which ones do you like??

Re: 2007 Emmys

See if you can find Katherine Heigl's speech.  She started off by saying "Ok, I don't have anything prepared because my mother told me I didn't have a chance in Hell at winning, so thanks, mom..." it's hilarious.  And I forget who won right after her but the guy came on stage, "Well, Katherine Heigl's mother said we would win..."

Yeah, we seem to be having trouble coming up with original shows over here...

Ugly Betty is great.  America totally does the show justice.  And Vanessa Williams plays a witch (well, not a witch, replace the W with a B).    It runs for an hour, which I think is a bit long because after a while the show just seems to run out of steam.  It's also not a real "comedy" here, it is funny most of the time but it can get very very dramatic very quickly.

I've never seen The Office but I hear it's a great show.  I just put the first season on my Netflix list, so I will be watching it.   Steve Carell is a talented guy if you like the type of comedy he does, at least in my opinion.  He's a funny man.

Re: 2007 Emmys

Oh, and they broadcast Sally's speech in full when the Emmys aired in Canada so you can find the whole thing online too.  Yes, American TV can be terrible.  And terribly derivative.  Witness the resurrection of The Bionic Woman because NBC wanted more superhero dollars.

I didn't really *like* The Office at first.  I watched it because there was nothing else on that was any better at the same time of night during its first season.  It kind of grew on me.  Though it's still not an appointment show for me, I've somehow seen almost every single ep now, and I kind of look forward to it,  I guess because the Jim/Pam thing got fun again.

Ugly Betty's not really my cup of tea, but I understand why people dig it.  And I do LOVE America.  Been a fan ever since Real Women Have Curves.  She just so sweet and funny and beautiful.  I'm so happy for all her success.  And I can't wait for the new Sisterhood movie!

On the subject of unoriginality and bad adaptations, I still can't get over Sam Huntington being in Cavemen.  WTF was he thinking?  And how fast will this thing get yanked off the air?  My bet is no more than 2-3 eps will air before it's toast.  First cancellation of the season waiting to happen right there.

Re: 2007 Emmys

in no way did i mean to offend anyone. i can see that there are lots of original shows in america and i am a fan of quite a lot of them. but i usually don't like remakes and to do a remake after a telenovela it's just not my style. and usualy i dislike american remakes of movies that were not american somehow they loose their foreign flavor.
but i do like america ferrara in the sisterhood of the travelling pants. it's going to be another one??? same cast???

Re: 2007 Emmys

You didn't offend anyone.  America does have a problem with originality.  Networks see something working overseas and make it work here.  I think all of the shows that were original are gone now, so the remakes work obviously.   And, yeah, they do lose their foreign flavor over here, but it's only because Americas are generally scared of what they don't understand so they needed American-ized.

The second Sisterhood movie is in the works now.  It's apparently going to be based off the fourth book so the original cast can come back without worring about the natural aging they've all gone through in the last three years.  If they wanted to continue in order, they'd have to get a new cast.  I'm having mixed feelings about it... I'd like to see the whole series on film, but not at the expense of losing the original cast.

<raises hand> Me!!!

Just kidding. I sometimes have to juggle a lot to get everything done, and yet still don't manage. Take this week, for instance. Things have been crazy. We all do what we can. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't.

I don't have that problem.  That would suggest I have a life.  Nope.  Write, go to school, write, sleep, repeat.  And I'm here while I write usually.  I don't have a job right now so I don't have to worry about that, but when I do get a job then I'll probably have some issues.

I dare say yes! Unless you can work from home or something. But even then... And wait until you have to sub for your colleague who runs off on vacation or a training course or some such. <points wildly at herself> No, not the one running off. The one filling in. It sucks more when the person you're filling in for is actually higher up in the hierarchy and because you're the sub, you're supposed to make the kind of decisions he makes. Can you say "awkward"?

But, hey, I don't wanna whine. I'm juggling. Axel will be back on Monday. Yay!

(And now we're truly off topic.)

Oh, I'm not gonna be getting a job like that for a while.  Right now, jobs I'm looking at involve the pharse "would you like fries with that?"

Yeah, we really are off topic.

So, The Sopranos won big I hear?

Off-topic Schmoff-topic.  Who cares?  It's MY topic and I couldn't care less.  Talk about whatever comes up.  I mean, you can only talk about the stupid Emmys for so long right?

Hey, how many Emmys will "Cavemen" score next year?  I'm taking bets right now.

Probably two.  Sam Huntington might deserve one.  I'm sure it'll be nominated for a few.  Unless it is cancelled early on, like it probably will be up.

Yep.  It's called "outstanding comedy series" not all the time, but usually the outstanding comedy series is rediculous
