Re: other men

Good one!  I was just wondering the other fay where Martha Plimpton was.  I don't think I've seen her in anything since Beautiful Girls.

Ever see "Parenthood"?  Joaquin looked a lot more like his brother when he was a little guy.  He (Joaquin) was going by Leaf Phoenix then.  And his sister was played by (ta da!) Martha Plimpton.

Re: other men

Of course I've seen Parenthood.  Mary's in it.  The BJ thing was higlarious!  I adore that movie.  Big Tom Hulce fan too.  That's it!  I was thinking TR Knight reminded me of someone, in essence.  It's Tom!  Dave and I saw that one in the theatre.  We've been fans of Martha since... well, forever.  The River Rat for me.  The Goonies for him.

Joaq was great in it too.  So was Keanu.  Everyone was.

Re: other men

Which rolls me into I Love You To Death.  Keanu and River in that one.  With Kevin Cline and Tracy Ullman.  Imperfect but really entertaining movie.  I get sucked into it every time I run into it on cable.  Another one Dave and I saw in the theatre.

Hell, we even saw A Night In The Life Of Jimmy Reardon, Little Nikita, My Own Private Idaho and of course, Stand By Me (multiple times for me) in the theatre.  Big time/long time River fans.

Re: other men

I remember which friends I saw it with, too.  I remember one of my friends trying to place Tom Hulce.  I said, "It's Mozart!"  He was recently in "Stranger Than Fiction" with Will Ferrell and Emma Thompson.  I almost didn't recognize him, it had been so long since I'd seen him in anything.  If you recall, there was a sex toy scene in "Parenthood" that was just as funny as the BJ scene.

"Parenthood" also had the most cynical line you could ever expect to hear in a Ron Howard movie.  Dianne Wiest's character had recently been dumped by her husband.  After a 20-yr marriage, during which she'd put him thru medical school, he married a much-younger woman and started a new family, leaving his old one in shambles.  Martha Plimpton's character was crying on her mother's shoulder about her problems with her husband.  She said, "How could he do this to me, Mommy?  He told me he loved me.  He told me he'd always take care of me."

And Dianne Wiest's character just held her and cried with her and said, "Yeah.  They say that, Baby.  And then they c@&e."

You do know who Martha Plimpton's father is, right?  (Of course you do):  Keith Carradine.

I vaguely remember "I Love You to Death".  William Hurt, was in it, too, right?

I remember all those other River movies you mentioned, as well as the very depressing "Dog Fight."  He was fantastic.

Re: other men

Yes, I remember the sex toy scene too, of course.  And you're right about that line being incredibly cynical.  I never really thought about it that way.  I really wanted to see Stranger Than Fiction when it was out, despite Will Farrell.  Now I HAVE to.  Haven't seen Tommy in ages.  That little dude's a trip!

Yep, well aware of Martha Plimpton's fascinating bloodline.

And yep, Bill Hurt is in I Love You To Death.  Joan Plowright was hysterically funny in that movie.

And I've seen Dogfight too.  You're right, it is depressing as hell, but I loved River and I love Lili Taylor too.

LOL.  I feel exactly the same way about Will Farrell.  Emma Thompson put it over the top for me.  Tom Hulce was just a nice surprise!

Yeah, I love Emma.  Also, the concept of the movie sounded very cool.  So you liked it?

Oh, yeah, I guess you're right about that.  Guess I'll just see if it comes on cable one day.  Right now I want to rent Eagle Vs Shark.  It has Jemaine from Flight Of The Conchords in it.

Re: other men

Oh, it's worth a rental.  He was less himself than anything else I've ever seen him in.  I think maybe this was supposed to be his "Truman Show".  And it falls considerably short of that.  Of course,  Will Ferrell ain't Jim Carrey.

River Phoenix was awesome and different from other guys. Hes a vegetarian just like me and I share a lot of other interests with him. He was awesome in Stand By Me and The Thing Called Love!

Re: other men

LOL, Carol.

OMG, Fan, how could I forget The Thing Called Love?  It's such a wonderful movie.  I've seen it so many times.  Everyone's great in it, but River was so adorably weird.

He was a damn good musician too.  How could I forget to mention this?  I saw him with his band, Aleka's Attic at the Cotton Club here in Atlanta.  I still have the little hand-drawn poster.  I'm not exaggerating when I say they were fantastic. Dave and I went up to speak to him afterward as he packed up his equipment.  We told him we loved the show and he was very humble; he smiled and his cheeks got pink and he said thank you over and over (kind of like Chris).  I said later that I bet he would  be the first former kid actor since Bill Mumy to be played on college radio and I was right.  Aleka's Attic recorded a song called Across The Way for the PETA album, Tame Yourself.  And they played it on college stations across the country, including Album 88 here in Atlanta.  They were supposed to be recording and album themselves.  He said in interviews around Private Idaho time that they were finishing up the record.  I wonder what ever happened to that music.

Re: other men

River Phoenix was incredible. There was a time where I rented everything of his that I could get my hands on.

And BiggestChrisMarquetteFan (I seem to have forgotten your name at some point, sorry!), you're a Jeremy Sumpter fan? For whatever reason I thought there were none left, hahaha. I met him in California back in 2004 right after the release of Peter Pan, so at that point, kids online were going insane for him. He's a nice kid. Is he still working?

Re: other men

Brenna, it's weird you said he was a nice kid when I heard otherwise. But then everyone act differently on different days ;P

Anyway, in response to the initial point of the discussion in this thread, the following other men gets my juices flowing: Chris (of course), Rupert Grint, James McAvoy, Michael Cera, and Steve Carell.

There are the obvious guys, such as Mark Ruffalo, Paul Rudd, Ryan Gosling, etc. etc., but the five I mentioned are the ones I keep resorting back to and get the biggest grins (or,) whenever I see them. Wait, Paul Rudd REALLY gets me going now that I think of it.. hmmm.. :alarm:

Joan: "Wow. I always thought you'd hate me if I was a cheerleader."
Adam: "No way. Why?
Joan: "Because we're subdefectives and it'd be like deserting the army or something."
Adam: "Oh, no. I don't care if you're a cheerleader, subdefective, or whatever. I just like hanging out with you because.. you're Jane."
