Jericho

This is mostly for Shrams, who is watching the show...

Jericho Gets Two Distinct Seasons
Source: CBS November 8, 2006

"Jericho," CBS's hit freshman drama about the aftermath of a nuclear explosion in a small, peaceful Kansas town, will be broadcast without repeats for the remainder of the 2006-2007 season.

The network announced today that it has devised a scheduling pattern to broadcast "Jericho" in two distinct seasons. "Jericho" will conclude its "fall season" with a cliffhanger finale on Wednesday, Nov. 29 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) and come back in February with all original episodes for the remainder of the season.

"Jericho" will return on February 14th with a recap special looking back at the first 11 episodes, followed by an original episode on February 21st. The all-new episode on February 21st will provide a look into life in Jericho the day before the nuclear bombs exploded.

To sustain audience momentum and update potential new viewers, CBS will create an online destination for "Jericho" during the show's 10-week intermission. The site will include original content, interactive elements, recaps and sneak previews.

CBS will also continue to stream all episodes of "Jericho" broadcast to date on its broadband channel innertube. Currently, "Jericho" is the Network's most-streamed program on innertube.

"Jericho" stars Skeet Ulrich, Gerald McRaney, Ashley Scott, Pamela Reed, Kenneth Mitchell, Lennie James, Sprague Grayden, Michael Gaston, Erik Knudsen, Brad Beyer and Shoshannah Stern.

Jon Turteltaub, Stephen Chbosky and Carol Barbee are executive producers for CBS Paramount Network Television.

In a related announcement, Kevin James, Leah Remini and Jerry Stiller return with original episodes of "The King of Queens" in December.

CBS will broadcast back-to-back new episodes of "The King of Queens" on Wednesday, Dec. 6 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) and Wednesday, Dec. 13 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET). New episodes of "The King of Queens" will also be broadcast on Wednesday, Dec. 20 (8:00-8:30 PM, ET/PT) and Wednesday Dec. 27 (8:00-8:30 PM, ET/PT). Seven more episodes of "The King of Queens" to be broadcast in 2007 will be announced at a later date.

CBS will also announce additional programming for the Wednesday (8:00-9:00 PM) time period at a later time.

Re: Jericho

Ooh, thanks, Deb!  Good news.  I like the idea of splitting up the season, like they're doing for Lost and The Shield.  I think with certain shows it can get very confusing for new or infrequent viewers to keep things straight when they see episodes out of order.  It's worse when you see, for instance, a character who's dead one week, and "alive" the next, and the viewer might not realize it's because they're watching a rerun.

Re: Jericho

Yeah, I'm OK with it.  Lost sure ended on a cliffhanger, didn't it?  But don't say anything or TeeJay will run screaming from the thread.  She won't even watch previews for next week's ep, which I think is a leeeeetle pathological, but whatever.

Re: Jericho

Heh, I can sort of understand that with Lost.  I was thrilled to see an actor I dearly love, however, in a prominent guest-star role.  Hopefully that's vague enough for TeeJay!

Re: Jericho

That's vague enough because she won't know who you're talking about most likely.  I think I do.  Mr. Nathan Fillion, perhaps?  Man, did I hate him on Buffy.  He's great in other stuff though.

Re: Jericho

Yep!  I hated him on Buffy, but loved him on Firefly, despite seeing Firefly after that Buffy arc.  I think he was pretty well-cast here.

I like the way that Jericho is starting to answer some questions, without giving so much away that viewers might feel they know enough to stop watching.  They seem to at least be doing that in a logical way.  There's only so long Jake can go without telling someone where he's been, at least for some of the time.  And Hawkins is getting more intriguing all the time.

Re: Jericho

I agree with your assessment of the way things are moving on Jericho.  I really enjoyed the last ep.  It was pretty strong.  Gonna miss it when it goes away.

Re: Jericho

I'll miss it, but it will be a relief to have a couple fewer shows to watch for a while.  My TV schedule is too crowded, especially since Mom wants me to watch certain shows with her that are okay, but I wouldn't care if I missed them.  I have too many other things to do to spend 2-3 hours per night watching TV.  She thinks nothing of watching 4 hours a night, every night of the week, and if there's nothing else on, she'll watch the shopping channels.  Argh!

Re: Jericho

My TV and computer are in the same spot so I'm always doing both.  But I can't stand using TV as background noise.  I always put it on something good and play on the computer during the commercials.  Or I put it on something I don't have to pay total attention to when I write.  My favorite for that is Braves games, or any baseball really.  I'm very picky about TV.  I don't watch shite.

Re: Jericho

Yeah, I can't stand watching something just to have noise on.  I much prefer peace and quiet if there isn't anything specific I want to watch or listen to.  Still, I'm surprised at the number of good shows that are on this season, a lot of them even on the networks!  Most of the time, the shows I like are always in imminent danger of cancellations, but most of the ones I really like are actually quite safe...Lost, Grey's Anatomy, Dexter, Jericho, Desperate Housewives, Supernatural, Numb3rs, House.  At first I was worried about Jericho, but I'm glad I was mistaken there.

Re: Jericho

Oooh, isn't Dexter interesting?  I was a little afraid of it before I saw it, but I think it's just fascinating.  All my shows are always on the bubble too.  Glad they decided to keep Studio 60 alive for the season. I think that show is brilliant.  Probably the best new show this year.  I tried to like Supernatural but it just didn't grab me.  I do like Numbers, but it's not an appointment show.  I like The Nine, though I probably wouldn't have even sampled it if not for Tim Daly. I'm personally very excited that Medium's back this week.  It's probably my very favorite show these days.

Re: Jericho

Dexter's great.  I read the first book a couple of years ago, and the sequel.  I just re-read them recently.  There are some major differences, but I'm really enjoying the series.  I'm glad Medium is coming back, especially with Javi working on it; in fact, he wrote the season premiere.  Should be very interesting.

Supernatural grew on me after a while.  I liked the premise, and the brothers, but some of the episodes didn't work for me.  I really like the casting on Numb3rs, because it's a good, solid ensemble piece.  Again, the family interaction is really enjoyable.  That was one of the things I really liked about JoA, the family dynamics.

Re: Jericho

Yep, it's all about the family on both Numbers and Medium.  Those shows probably would not have held my interest without that aspect.  I'm just so burned out on procedurals.  I only watch Law & Order SVU & CI really.  The rest just have no draw for me.  No actors I like and boring old cop stories.  That's why I'm glad there's so much more to Dexter than the procedural aspect.  And why I latch on to shows like Jericho that are completely outside that overworked paradigm.

Re: Jericho

I have a harder time with the family aspect of Medium.  I am not fond of kids, especially little kids, even more so if they're irritating little brats.  But it's interesting to see how Allison handles them, as opposed to, say, the world's worst mother, Lynette from Desperate Housewives.  And Joe is also a much better father than Lynette's husband, Tom.

On Dexter, Rita's kids are interesting, and not nearly as annoying as most.  Plus, it helps that I've got a little more info on them from the books.

Re: Jericho

I have been meaning to post this earlier, but somehow I forgot.
Since I was watching the whole Miracles series a few weeks ago I got interested in some more work of Skeet Ulrich, so I searched youtube for some clips of Jericho. And since it features Judith too (Yeah, I know, she's supposed to be Heather here. LOL) I thought I should give it a try. So what can I say, I watched those clips. I was a little sceptical when I heard about the storyline first, but that has gone so far. I really like the show. I recently learned that it's supposed to come to Germany in May, so who knows, maybe I'll give it a try on TV then.

Oh, I'm sure you're gonna like it, Anne. From what I've seen, it's a good show. If I didn't already have enough TV shows to watch, I might have started with this one too. But I know one thing: I'm not gonna watch it in German. wink

Yeah, I know that too and you know, that I wouldn`t do that either, but due to my English knowledge ... roll
So that's why I'm happy because I found those clips on youtube. I can still watch them before watching it in German.

It's going to start in Germany soon, I've seen some ads. Don't know if I am going to watch it, the German voices suck pretty much. As always. roll

Re: Jericho

Yeah, here's the announcement, note the quotes from that hypocritical jerk, Les Moonves:

CBS Cancels 'Jericho', Tries "Daring" Shows

CBS's Jericho will come tumbling down next season -- its ratings demonstrating to network executives that it was not fit for battle. It was the latest of a series of announcements by the networks that they are abandoning the onetime popular serial dramas. Meeting with reporters on Wednesday, CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler indicated that the network -- which remains the most watched -- plans to alter its conservative image by attempting to introduce some "daring" new programs next year. "We said this was the year because we have stability, we had the strength. We wanted to make a little noise and stir things up," she commented as she took the wraps off the network's plans for next season. Added CBS Chairman Les Moonves: "We wanted to take some chances -- we could afford to." By far, the most unusual entry will be Viva Laughlin, about a gambler who dreams of buying a casino in Nevada. At times in the drama, the characters lip-sync pop songs. It is exec produced by actor Hugh Jackman, who will also make occasional appearances as a regular character. A new detective series, Moonlight, features a vampire as the private eye. A new reality series, Kid Nation, will feature 40 8-15-year-olds building their own city in the New Mexico desert, without any help from adults. "Stunningly," wrote Washington Post TV writer Lisa De Moraes, "the network taking the wildest swings next season with its new series choices is also the one with the most viewers."

Yeah, and they'll cancel any of these daring shows after a year or two, just watch.

Re: Jericho

Fans Protest Cancellation of 'Jericho'

A massive campaign has been mounted by fans of Jericho, which got off to an impressive start at the beginning of the season but appeared to lose most of its audience following its winter hiatus. Those who remained loyal to the show have launched an online petition that has already been signed by more than 60,000 and have also posted thousands of messages to Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment, protesting the drama's cancellation. A preamble posted on the website http://jericholives.com/fight.htm reads in part, "This show has touched us all like no other before it. It is unique. It is another high-quality show cast aside by the networks." The website suggests that the show may have "suffered for its success" since, it said, many viewers had decided to watch it on their digital video recorders and online. Tassler responded that she, too, had been a fan of the show "and we are humbled by your disappointment. In the coming weeks, we hope to develop a way to provide closure to the compelling drama that was the Jericho story."

SOURCE: http://www.imdb.com/news/sb/2007-05-22

So how come CBS wasn't "humbled" by the disappointment of JoA fans enough to do something about closure for OUR show?  I LOATHE these hypocrites!

Agreed.

Honestly, I'll never understand TV business. The good shows get cancelled, but the crap shows survive endlessly. WHY???
