Re: Misc Stuff

Is it true that due to the writer's strike, we might not get new TV episodes in the next few weeks/months because no one's writing them and some of the production staff is going on strike just out of solidarity? Someone told me this yesterday and now I wonder if the TV shows will end up with less episodes for the upcoming season than originally planned.

Re: Misc Stuff

Yeah.  Most pre-taped shows have new episodes that have been written and filmed already and they'll be shown, but talk shows and such are going downhill fast.  Eventually, everything will be in repeats.  Even actors are on the pick it lines to support the writers, so I wouldn't be surprised if entire crews were out there.

Re: Misc Stuff

Daily talk shows and stuff are already in repeats.  Sitcoms and dramas have some eps in the can and they will be shown during November because it's sweeps month.  After that, they'll likely hoard what few new eps they have left and scatter them around over the next few months.  I expect repeats to start Thanksgiving week and continue to the end of the strike.  Whenever that may be.  I don't think it will go on too long.  It's already shutting down most of Los Angeles.  When the outcry gets to be too much, Arnie will step in.

Re: Misc Stuff

Arnie to the rescue!  Eventually:

Can Arnold Terminate the Strike?

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has confirmed reports that first appeared on the Internet site Politico.com that he has been acting behind the scenes to bring striking writers and producers representatives back to the negotiating table with a federal mediator. At a news conference in Sacramento Thursday, Schwarzenegger said, "I'm talking to the parties that are involved because I think it's very important that we settle that as quickly as possible, because it has a tremendous economic impact on our state." In its report, Politico.com said, "In addition to his own words of advice, the governor has had staff members reach out to both sides, as well as to the federal mediator trying to get them to hammer out a deal."

Re: Misc Stuff

Guys, in case you noticed, I am not very much online these days. Well, I am sorry but now, that I have a job I have to get up very early and now the winter is coming, which means that it's dark when I go to work and dark when I come back and that makes me tired and a little depressed, so I am not in a very talkative mood when I come home. I guess this will change once I got used to it.

Re: Misc Stuff

Survey:

Can any of you name a comedy made in the last 20 years with a young girl/woman as it's hero that did NOT feature that girl taking a pratfall?  What is the origin of that maddening cinematic cliche?  I'm so incredibly sick of it.  Nine times out of ten, the marketers consider it so funny that it's in the trailer.

I just saw on ET that Anne Hathaway was cast on the spot for The Princess Diaries after falling off a chair in her audition.  And of course, you better damn well believe there's a pratfall in that movie.

So stupid.  Why do the men who make these movies demand to see this?

Re: Misc Stuff

Anne didn't do it on purpose.  Her character was a clutsy girl and so is she, it just helped that her clutsyness came during her auditions.  Not ONE of her falls in PD where in the original script (the chair fall was added after she got the part), but they fit so well for Mia's character they kept it.

I know it doesn't really match up to what you're saying, but I just thought I should point that out.

Re: Misc Stuff

That's all well and good, but the movie still can't be counted as having no girly pratfall, even if it wasn't in the script.  I never saw the sequel, but I bet it had one too.

Re: Misc Stuff

Well, teenage girls as a general rule are clusty.  It is a Disney movie, they wanted to make Mia relatible to girls and that's how they did it.  At least Mia had a good head on her shoulders

You do have a point about the pratfalls.  But that's what society expects.  They don't want little girls to grow up to be Hulk Hogan, they want them to be a Disney Princess.  Little boys can be a violent as they want, it's "normal".  I don't think I've ever seen a bubble-headed heroine, they're all someone girls can geniunely look up to.

Re: Misc Stuff

I'm not asking for girls to be Hulk Hogan.  I'm asking for them to simply remain upright and not fall on their face for some weird quirk of a Hollywood cliche.  It's not just Disney.  Sandra Bullock in Miss Congeniality and half of her other movies.  Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.

When Lucille Ball or Carol Burnett did it, it was kind of original for a woman to be allowed to do physical comedy like the Three Stooges or something.  Now, it's just tired, because it happens in damn near every movie where the girl's supposed to be funny.

It's like running from the fireball, water gush, explosion, hoard of insects or whatever in action movies.  It's been done to death.

Amber Tamblyn has 2955 friends.

That makes me sad, she should have more friends than that.

She could if she just accepted everybody who asked.  I bet she doesn't do that.  We should all try to get her to add us and see what happens.  I can't even get Aaron Himmelstein to add me.  lol

Re: Misc Stuff

I think I was one of the first people Amber added when she started her MySpace projects. She has two other myspaces, one is for the official amtam forum and the other one is for the other forum on her poetry website. And I am added on all of them. LOL
Hm, I think I maybe should try to get the other celebs to add me. LOL lol

It's not that hard to find Amber.  I'd rather not post her or Aaron's links on a public board, there's a lot of weirdos out there.
