That's a great show. I got addicted when I had a 3-month preview of IFC. Such a long time ago...

Yeah, I really enjoy IFC. I don't think they're making new episodes of DfF anymore, though.

Michael Welch on CSI: Miami - episode 6x08 Permanent Vacation
Contains spoilers, so don't read if you want to avoid being spoiled!
I finally watched this episode last night, so let me say a few words about it. I don't usually watch this show. I've seen a handful of episodes, so I knew the premise and most of the regular cast. Michael had a handful of scenes, I can't remember how many exactly, but it was at least four, though overall he didn't get that much screen time.
Michael played Shane, the younger of two sons of a Canadian couple who came to Miami for vacation. Shane's brother is killed by a gunshot to the head in the hotel elevator on the day they want to leave for home, apparently a gang-related crime. While the CSIs try to investigate what looks like a random gang initiation kill, the family grieves, with an angry father who seems violent and determined enough to kill the killer himself, once he is found.
When one of the suspects in the murder is assaulted from behind and brutally beaten, CSI suspects that it was the father who attempted to kill his son's murderer. However, after some investigation, it turns out that Shane is the perpetrator. He was very close to his brother and adored him and wanted to seek revenge. Shane is taken into custody, suddenly realizing the amount of trouble he landed himself in as he is being told that he could go to prison for attempted murder for a number of years.
In the end, they catch the killer and Horatio manages to persuade the assaulted suspect (who turned out not to be the killer) not to testify against Shane.
Michael had two quite intense and very emotional scenes where he was being interviewed by the CSIs, in the rest of them he's just seen briefly without a lot of lines. He did a really good job. And I love the fact that we see him in as a guest on different TV shows every now and then. Feed the fans some scraps to keep them happy and make sure people in the industry out there remember the face. (Chris should be taking my advice here, hehe...)
While I was quite happy with Michael's part in the episode (except that maybe he could have had a little more screen time for my taste), there were a few things that I found quite annoying (which don't have to do with Michael). I know that for this particular incarnation of CSI:, they always use yellow and bright color filters, so that the colors are always just a little too vivid. While it might give the overall feel of the show that sun-warm Florida touch, I found it slightly aggravating how the colors seemed to jump at you. Especially that obnoxious green sweater one of the guys wore made my eyes hurt.
Another thing was the cinematography. I don't watch the show enough to judge whether this is a general CSI: Miami thing or if it was just the directing/cinematography in this particular episode, but the fast cuts, split screens and weird wide-angle camera pans didn't quite work for me. It felt chopped up and took me right out of the story.
And can I just say that in this episode David Caruso didn't win any more sympathy points? Sometimes you see a guy, and even though you haven't even really gotten to "know" him, you already don't like him. Meet David Caruso. I can't even really explain it and it may be completely unjustified, but I just don't like the guy. And by now I've seen enough CSI: Miami episodes to say that as Horatio Caine he didn't exactly win me over--quite the opposite, actually. I find Horatio just arrogant, fake and annoying. There are reasons I don't watch this variety of CSI:, and his character's one of them.
What I can say overall about this episode is that I enjoyed the Michael Welch parts of it. I didn't feel the urge to fast forward through any of it, but it confirmed once more that I'll never become a fan or regular viewer of the show. Michael did a great job and I'll be waiting for his next appearance on a TV or movie screen near me.

Don't get too excited, he doesn't have much screen time. But he cries twice.
Oh, and btw... the episode already aired this Monday. So you'll have to catch a repeat to watch it.

Sprague is doing a recurring role on Weeds now. Why does Chris think there's nothing fun to do as a guest player on TV? Damnit! Everybody's working but him.

I agree Deb. Chris needs to have more roles on tv. Even if they're smaller roles.

Can I have a copy of that too, please? But you have already burnt my DVDs, right?
Or is that the old one and I am mixing something up here? I'm confused, sorry. If it's something new, I would like to order a copy, please.

It's a new one, and, yes, I've already burned your DVDs. Maybe next time. Riley was hardly worth it, he had a super-tiny role. I think he had one line. Juliette was great, though.

Wow, it comes to DVD in the US two weeks after it comes to German theaters. German theater release is Jan 31. I'm still not sure if I wanna watch it. I like Emile Hirsch well enough, but the storyline doesn't really grab me. Though you only hear great things about the movie. Guess I'll decide when I know whether it's showing without dubbing or not.

I consider watching it because Marcia Gay Harden is also in it. But you are right, the storyline doesn't really grab me either. Let me find out if it's showing somewhere near my home, so maybe I'll watch it.
