Re: Randomness

I just upgraded my YM to version 8.1.0.249. It's not the latest version (which, I think, is 8.1.0.421) but I couldn't find a patch for that latest version that would remove the annoying ads. In version 8.1.0.249 I found a patch that would remove the ads. No one's online right now, though, so I can't try if it works and all. Guess I'll see eventually.

If anyone wants the same (or any other) version, you can get it here:
http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=yahoo

The ad remover can be found here:

I've never seen an add on YM.

Re: Randomness

That's because when I installed yours, I removed the ads. tongue Otherwise there's a bar at the bottom that has flashing ads that change and blink and just annoy people.

Like here on the left, the green Yahoo Answers thing:

Re: Randomness

I had to reinstall it last night because it jammed up and just wouldn't work anymore.  I didn't notice if there was ads on the new version.  Probably so.  I was just so relieved to get it working again.

Re: Randomness

Could also be that the patch I applied somehow also works for the new version without you doing anything. Though that would be strange because it didn't do that for me.

Re: Randomness

You can always try the Ad Banner Remover, it might work on your version too. Unless the ads don't really annoy you.

Re: Randomness

You double-click and use the first option (something about removing ads, can't remember what exactly it was called). You need to enter the folder there where your YM progam is installed and click on "Run Patch" or something like that.

Re: Randomness

The first option is allow multiple instances of Messenger 8.  It has an option to remove ads but when you click on that it just says it was done successfully but the ads are still there.  Screw it.  I don't have time for this crap.

There's two explanations why it didn't work. 1) It doesn't work with the latest version of YM at all. 2) The path to the file that needs to be patched wasn't right. If I remember correctly, there's a box below the ad remove option that lists where it expects YM to be installed on your hard drive (something in C:\Program Files\Yahoo\...). I think your Windows is actually installed on D: or E: or F: for some reason. If the program can't locate the YM file because the path to it isn't right, then it can't patch the file.

Your decision if you wanna give up and live with the ads or try again.

Sounds great. But I can't just skip. We have so much work to do until the end of the year. I'd feel guilty.

School was pointless today for me.  One of my teachers was tired and gave us busy work to do, as soon as he took attendance almost everyone walked out.
