Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

Here are some of the first stills from Speed Racer with Emile Hirsch.

I will say it looks unique and does remind me of the classic cartoon, but I'm not so sure of the helmet.

Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

Yeah, the M on the helmet needs to be thicker.  Everything else looks great though.  Matthew Fox looks wonderful.  They've been interviewing the cast on ET the last few days.

Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

Larry just posted a bulletin about one of Michael Welch's new movies, Lost Dream. The trailer looks great, I wish I could see the movie sooner rather than later:

It's an independent movie and it'll hopefully show at some film festivals next year. Let's hope they find a distributor soon.

Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

I agree with Deb, that's one of the most horrible movie posters I've ever seen.
Michaels movie looks really good, I certainly will watch it if I have the chance to.

Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

Yeah, there's too many glares and not enough colors.   And the text blends into the backround.  Definatly wouldn't catch my attention if I randomly saw it somewhere.

Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

The movie is very bright and vibrant and colorful, like a cartoon.  So they do this dull, fuzzy poster?  Lame.

Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

Found out that the Speed Racer poster is lenticular. So that's likely why it's sort of fuzzy.

The only thing I really like about the poster is the Mach 5, otherwise it looks like a generic racing movie poster.

Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

Oh, OK, that makes more sense.  Too bad that effect can't be seen in just a pic of the poster.  Maybe I'll see it in person tomorrow when I go see I Am Legend.

Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

Yeah, it looks like quite a ride.  I've been interested in the idea of a modern take on that story for years.  And got even more excited when I found out Will was doing it.  Ebert had good things to say, so that's a good sign.  It has got me thinking a lot lately about the moody, solemn Vincent Price version, The Last Man On Earth.  I saw that on cable a couple of years ago.  It was weirdly fascinating, but terribly low-tech.

It also has me thinking about that book some guy wrote about what would happen to the planet if man just died out or disappeared.  It's called The World Without Us: http://www.worldwithoutus.com/.  Basically, it's how plants and animals would reclaim the Earth.  You see some of that in the way New York is portrayed in the movie.  I really wanna read that book.

Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

She was reeeeeally different than we're used to.  She was kind of a ho and a petty criminal.  Her hair was very long and she had a tiny silver stud in her nose.  Make-up all smudged.  She didn't even sound like herself.  Only two scenes, but really intense stuff.
