Oliver Stone's Pinkville

OK, Chris finally said it publicly so we can make a thread.  He did sign on for Pinkville and it ain't over yet.  Oliver Stone personally told him not to give up on the movie and Chris called it his next project.  Halleluja!

Oh, that's great news!  That should be a good one.  That are Oliver Stone's era, so you know he'll really do something remarkable with the material.

Re: Oliver Stone's Pinkville

Yep.  And we're hoping that Chris will play Paul Meadlo.  It would be a very dramatic role for him.  If this movie is done right, Chris could get a huge boost from it.

Yeah, my parents left Cambodia and fled to Thailand after what had happened to them and their families..

Anyway, we're off topic! I'm excited for "Pinkville," but I see Channing Tatum on the list? Yikes.

Re: Oliver Stone's Pinkville

That's OK.  I'll put up with anyone to see Chris in this film.  Especially if he plays Meadlo.

HAH! That's so true. Hopefully he has a lot of screen time. I'm guessing the Meadlo character does, right?

Re: Oliver Stone's Pinkville

It's not so much about screentime as it is Meadlo's dramatic arc.  If you learn about the guy, you can just see Chris playing him.  I will fill up this thread with all kinds of info on the story as we go along and explain in detail why I hope this is the role he'll play.

Just read today and heard again on TV just now that United Artists is close to making a deal with the WGA so that its writers can go back to work.  If that happens, like Chris just said, the movie could very easily get back on track pretty quickly.

Keep your fingers crossed folks!

Re: Oliver Stone's Pinkville

Here we go kids, official news from the horse's mouth...

After the interview tonight, I emailed Chris...

We all listened to the Movie Geeks interview today.  Just one quick thing, now that the cat's out of the bag on your involvment in Pinkville, can you end the speculation about which character you signed on for?

Hugs,
Deb

He answered pretty quickly...

I am supposed to play Ron Haeberle.  The war photographer, who's photos (which appeared in LIFE magazine/they are the photos of the massacre), started the public interest in the My Lai Massacre which in turn started the trials to prosecute the soldiers involved.
CHRIS

Now, I gotta go find out who this guy is...

Re: Oliver Stone's Pinkville

Brenna, no need to feel bad. The speculation about Chris being involved in Pinkville was just between Anne, Deb and me. We were the only ones around here who knew. We were asked not to talk about it publicly, so we didn't. Feels good to finally be able to share all about what we ended up calling "Project P". smile

So, Deb, this is one of the trips abroad that Chris mentioned, huh?

I'm excited as well! At first I thought: Oh great, another war movie. But then I realized this movie is gonna be much more and much different. It's wonderful news that they're hopefully gonna take up production again. Crossing fingers that it'll happen soon!

Re: Oliver Stone's Pinkville

The news from all corners today is not good.  Even though the WGA did indeed ink a deal with UA, both Vareity and THR say production on Pinkville will not resume.  They blame it all on Bruce Willis walking off the project.  Personally, I don't see why they can't just find another damn actor.  For cripes sake, it's not like Willis is the only actor in town.  WTF?!?

Just another reason to wanna kick Tom Cruise is his tiny sack.  (Sorry, I'm pissed.)

Re: Oliver Stone's Pinkville

That's so strange. If Oliver Stone wants to do everything he can to get this project made, I can't see how it can all depend on Bruce Willis. Could it be that there was something like a contract that says that if he doesn't play the part, no one else is allowed to play that role? Stranger things have happened, and these big shots often want strange things that they tend to get because they're so "famous"... I'm not giving up hope just yet.

Re: Oliver Stone's Pinkville

Nah, I doubt anything like that happened.  I think they just stopped looking for a replacement for him when the strike started and now they have no one lined up to step into the role.  We're batting about some names on IMDb though.  My favorite possibility is Chris Cooper.  He'd be wonderful as Peers and I'd love to see our Chris work with him.  Of course, they want someone with "star power" since the young cast will be made up of not-so-well-known folks.

I'm disappointed, but not yet ready to give up myself.
