Re: Oliver Stone's Pinkville

sad

Maybe there's a tiny glimmer of hope that Pinkville will be revived after he's done his next movie? I mean, stranger things have happened...

Re: Oliver Stone's Pinkville

If he's gonna shoot in April and release before November, he'll be busy with post right up to that time. So the only way it happens is after November.  I doubt Chris and the other actors will wait around for it.  I think it's over.

Hahaha, "Chimpy McFlightsuit." Well, I must say that I am quite taken aback and saddened by this news. I hope Chris does get a chance to do something similar for another film then; actually, he'd be great in anything. So much for wanting to stalk them in Thailand! ;P

Adam: "No way. Why?
Joan: "Because we're subdefectives and it'd be like deserting the army or something."
Adam: "Oh, no. I don't care if you're a cheerleader, subdefective, or whatever. I just like hanging out with you because.. you're Jane."

Re: Oliver Stone's Pinkville

Terry Thomas --- who's a photographer and actor --- says that he has been told that Pinkville is back on and will be starting up soon.  Probably after Mr. Stone finishes post-production on W, which is supposed to open before the elections in November.  There was also an article published in June about an actress who was meeting with Stone for a part in P'ville.

I really hope the movie does get off the ground and that Chris is still part of it.  He just damn well better not have to leave for Thailand the first week in October!  tongue

Oh wow. Someone posted on Chris's IMDb board about Pinkville. Guess it was in response to this. Yeah, October would be bad timing.

Re: Oliver Stone's Pinkville

That someone is my Oliver Stone fan buddy, BobStage.  He knows all about Chris because of me.  And he was responding to a TON of posts by Terry in the IMDb Pinkville thread.  Terry was the guy I talked to back in the ROTN days.  He played a professor in the scenes they shot for the movie before it was canned.  I believe he's telling the truth about what he's heard and who he heard it from.  But whether the information that was passed along to him was accurate, I dont know.  That article about the actress gives me hope though.

Oh great. We come all the way to Cali and then he's not there. That would suck, although it would be a good thing if he still is a part of the movie. But well, you can't have everything.

Re: Oliver Stone's Pinkville

This is from the GQ interview with Mr. Stone...

Is the My Lai massacre movie you were making before W. dead?
Pinkville? It can probably only come back if UA would give us the movie without paying them the money they've already spent. We started to make the movie. I mean, we built a whole village in Thailand! We have tons of stuff sitting in crates! There's $6 million against the movie. And I don't have that kind of money. They didn't even pay all the bills. They stuck us with a bunch of them.

Is your sense that they got cold feet on the project and used the writers' strike as the excuse?
Yes, of course that's what happened. First they kept cutting our budget. We had our locations, we had our actors, we had everything picked out, and it was a very reasonable plan. Then Bruce Willis walked, and they were thrilled, because that gave them the final excuse to call it, even though we got Nicholas Cage. That was three weeks before shooting and right before Christmas. Let me remind you, that's 120 Americans and 500 Thais put out of work right before Christmas. It was a cruel, heartless decision, and it was probably made because [UA's] Lions for Lambs was perceived as a mess, a failure, and we were linked to these Iraq movies that weren't working. The irony, of course, is that Pinkville is only about Iraq in a Holy Ghost–type way. It's about the roots of Iraq, without being too close to it. It's not a war movie. It's JFK meets Platoon. It was about an investigation into the past and how the nature or man covers up evil. And I have UA going on and on about "Do the bad guys have to be Americans?"

In a movie about the My Lai massacre?
I mean, GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK! American soldiers, I mean, American soldiers are sacred? Come on! I'm saying this as a veteran. I've been to war. There are a lot of bad guys in the army.

Do the bad guys have to be Americans?!?  You see how retarded Tommy & Paula are?  It's over guys.  This movie's never getting made.

Re: Oliver Stone's Pinkville

Wow, check it out!  Thanks to my friend Dab on the IMDb board...

Pinkville is not dead! The sticking point had been that United Artists had no interest in producing it, but they would not let it go unless someone paid them the $6 million they had already spent on developing it.  Apparently some one did because Ollie got the rights back.

http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2009/02/12/ol … pinkville/

Of course this doesn't mean he'll be able to get back everyone he'd already cast, but Chris told us in October that he'd still love to do it, so if he's available when Stone finally gets to shoot it, I'm sure he'll be part of  it.

Re: Oliver Stone's Pinkville

On the anniversary of the release of the photos of the My Lai Massacre, Ron Haeberle --- the war photographer that Chris was set to play --- has done a new interview saying that he destroyed the best evidence he shot that day.  This is pretty stunning.  He could assured that more of the guilty parties were brought to justice and not just Calley. But instead, he made the decision on his own to help the army cover up what happened...

The new video interview...

I've heard it said before that Haeberle was kind of an arrogant ass.  He sure comes off like one here.
