Yep! I have. I don't remember much of his scenes, though. I knew at the time I thought, 'hey, that's the guy..'

I don't even remember much of the movie in general. I just remember the family having a picnic and Jena Malone in the bathroom?

Joan: "Wow. I always thought you'd hate me if I was a cheerleader."
Adam: "No way. Why?
Joan: "Because we're subdefectives and it'd be like deserting the army or something."
Adam: "Oh, no. I don't care if you're a cheerleader, subdefective, or whatever. I just like hanging out with you because.. you're Jane."

roll  "Almost Famous" in one of my very favorite movies, but Kate Hudson is starting to make Meg Ryan look like Sarah Bernhardt.  I hope she goes in a less ditzy direction next time.  As for McBubbahey, I give up.;)

Re: Misc Stuff

The bad news about pilot season...

Strike Will Be Felt for Months, Say Reports

Despite renewed optimism about a resolution of the Hollywood writers' strike following last week's agreement with the Directors Guild, signs continued to appear that the TV and film industries would continue to suffer financial hardship for months to come, if not longer. Over the weekend, CBS said that it had dropped about 20 projects that were being readied for pilot production. In a statement, the network said, "Due to the ongoing writers strike, our development needs for the upcoming pilot season have changed, and we have released some comedy and drama scripts."And the London Financial Times reported that NBC Universal CEO is planning to eliminate the pilot season and the "upfront" pre-season presentation of the network's shows to advertisers. "Things like that are all vestiges of an era that's gone by and won't return," Zucker told the newspaper. Plans for the upcoming Grammy and Oscar awards remained up in the air, with few people willing to predict that, even under the best of circumstances, the strike could be settled before those awards shows take place.

Re: Misc Stuff

More strike news from the usual source:

Writers' Strike Settlement Appears Close

In an effort to revive negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, the Writers Guild of America on Tuesday withdrew its demands to act as bargaining agents for writers of reality and animated films and TV shows. The AMPTP had said that it would not return to the negotiating table until the WGA's jurisdictional demands were removed. In a message to members of the WGA East, President Michael Winship wrote that the guild had agreed to remove the proposals in order to show its "commitment to bringing a speedy conclusion to negotiations." With those issues removed, formal talks between the two sides were expected to resume today (Wednesday). The WGA also announced Tuesday that it had decided not to picket the Grammy awards ceremonies, set for Feb. 10. There was no indication whether the guild would allow writers to provide material for the program, due to air live on CBS from Los Angeles. Typically the awards ceremony credits two writers. However, the WGA vowed that it would not make a similar concession to the Academy Awards telecast, scheduled for February 24. Speaking at a WGA rally Tuesday, Winship said, "Until the Writers Guild has a deal with the conglomerates -- the studios and networks -- our intention is to boycott the Oscars, to picket the Oscars and to ask our fellow union members at the Screen Actors Guild to boycott the Oscars."

Fox TV To Cut Back Pilots, Overall Development

Fox TV and the CW networks announced Tuesday that they have decided not to produce pilots of many proposed television programs under consideration. They also said that, as an additional cost-cutting measure, they would abandon numerous projects that had been in development. Several networks have already cut loose writers and producers who are not currently involved in programs that are already on the air.

Ooh, finally, some good news...

Hope Remains for NBC's New Shows

NBC, which finished last season in last place among the major networks, said Wednesday that, unlike its rivals, it does not plan to shelve the scripts that it had intended to develop into pilots and perhaps full-time series before the writers' strike hit. "We bet on the writers we were in business with, and we feel that it is important for us to give them the opportunities that we bet on," NBC Entertainment executive vice president Teri Weinberg told Broadcasting & Cable. I just saw the cutest, funniest movie on Lifetime of all places, Girl's Best Friend, with Janeane Garofalo.  I love her anyway.  It was a very cool, surprisingly sweet movie.  Made me cry at the end.  What a great central character!  See it of you get a chance.

Re: Misc Stuff

That sucks. Is the show already off the air? Or are they at least getting a chance to wrap things up and write a proper ending? No, wait, I think someone told me that the cancellation came quite unexpected and now everyone's left hanging. Apparently, it wasn't an explosive cliffhanger that they ended on, but it did leave loose ends in the grand scheme of things. I hate it when that happens.

Oh, and today on the radio I heard that the strike might actually be coming to an end soon. Is that true? They said that they're giving in to a lot of the WGA's demands and that they're close to finding a compromise that everyone's gonna be okay with. Hope that's the case. Is there hope that my shows might return in March? Wonder how many more episodes we'll get. The seasons usually end in May or June, right? I'd be surprised if most shows actually ran more than 18 episodes this season...

Re: Misc Stuff

Well, poop:

Strike Settled?

Rumors began circulating through the Internet over the weekend that a "breakthrough" had been achieved in negotiations between the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. By late Sunday, the speculation had been picked up by several newspapers, wire services and trade publications, leading WGA officials to issue a message to their members saying, "Please disregard rumors about either the existence of an agreement or its terms. ... Picketing will resume on Monday. Our leverage at the bargaining table is directly affected by your commitment to our cause." The message did not spike the speculation about a settlement. The Los Angeles Times, citing three people close to the talks, reported that a final contract was likely to be presented to the WGA board as early as Friday. Likewise, the Associated Press and Daily Variety reported that a deal might be announced "within a week." Several reports credited the intervention of Disney CEO Robert Iger and News Corp CEO Peter Chernin for breaking the deadlock in the dispute, which has kept writers on the picket lines since last November.

WGA and AMPTP: Deal Or No Deal?

Negotiators for the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have reached an agreement on terms of a new contract and are currently constructing the wording of the pact before submitting it to the leadership of the unions and media companies, Reuters reported Monday night, citing two unnamed sources. Details of the agreement were not disclosed, and the sources cautioned that deals have fallen apart because of disagreement over contract language in the past. Soon after the Reuters report began circulating, John Bowman, chairman of the WGA Negotiating Committee, sent a message to union members saying, "Regardless of what you hear or read, there are many significant points that have yet to be worked out." Meanwhile, today's (Tuesday) New York Times suggested that the TV networks and movie studios are likely to alter their business practices in a way that would result in writers coming out of the strike with far less than they may gain. The networks, the Times indicated, are preparing to import more programming from foreign television producers, spend less on pilots, offer additional reality programming, and cut back on development deals.

The cast of "Family Ties" was on the Today Show this morning.  All five originals (Bateman, Baxter, Fox, Gross, and Yothers) along with creator Gary David Goldberg were all together publically for the first time since the show went off the air.  Can you believe that was 18 years ago?

Writers To Be Briefed On New Contract Saturday

In the apparent belief that negotiators for the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers will be able to put their reported agreement on a new contract into writing by the end of the week, the WGA's East- and West-Coast branches have called an informational meeting of its members on Saturday. However, even as the members were being notified of the meeting, the WGA's chief negotiator John Bowman, was advising them that several significant differences remain to be settled.

Hollywood Waits for WGA Contract -- Especially Oscar

Despite numerous reports that the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television producers have reached an agreement and are currently hammering out the wording, the Screen Actors Guild on Wednesday urged its members to show up in force at the Walt Disney Studios today (Thursday) "to let management know that we stand firmly with our brothers and sisters at the WGA." Meanwhile, Sid Ganis, president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, repeated his plea to leaders of the WGA to allow preparation for the Oscars to go forward. In an interview with Daily Variety, Ganis noted that the show involves complicated production numbers and making travel arrangements for presenters and nominees. "I'm nervous," he told the trade publication. "We're getting down to the final moments; we need to make plans." The 80th Annual Academy Awards telecast is scheduled to take place on February 24.

Re: Misc Stuff

End of the Strike?

Negotiators for the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers are expected to put the finishing touches on a new three-year contract today (Friday), several publications reported, citing sources close to the negotiations. Only one seasoned Hollywood mogul spoke on the record. Former Disney chief Michael Eisner said during an interview on CNBC, "I know it's over. They made the deal. They shook hands on the deal. It's going on Saturday to the writers in general" for a membership vote. An informational meeting of the WGA-West is expected to take place on Sunday at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, the onetime site of the Academy Awards presentations. Significantly, if the strike is called off, the Oscars show would be able to take place as scheduled on February 24, although producers may have to work overtime to bring all of its elements together.

Hah, just today I told my friend Anja that I didn't expect most shows I watch to have more than 16 to 18 episodes this season. Turns out that, according to this chart, I was about right. Most shows I watch ended pre-strike around episode 12. So if we get 4 to 5 more, there you go. But I'd hate to think Medium will only have nine episodes this season. That's just way too short. sad
