LOL! Yeah, Little-Nicky-man made it BRILLiant, no doubt! He is a genius, after all. And just like DarthW, he fails to understand that if the cancer plot was weak, the way to fix it is not to cut it out but to DEEPEN it. But then, look at who we're dealing with. Also, he fails to even notice that a lot of the people who are fighting for the Real Fanboys HAVE seen that version, in a rough cut no less. And they cheered their asses off! I have changed all the words that they may have blocked now to something that'll hopefully not be caught by any preset spam filters they might have put in place. I'm sure you've had it in your heart to do your job well when you were brought on to "save" the film Fanboys from what you believe to be an insipid subplot. And of course the money has already been spent on the revisions and reshoots, so the whole matter is probably out of any one person's hands. But I'm writing to tell you that I've known Ernie Cline for over a decade, and he is passionate about the subjects he writes about, and does so with originality and sensitivity.
What I believe the fans are really afraid of is that a truly original movie is reduced to sheer Hollywood formula and 8th grade humor pitting stereotype against stereotype. Changing this film is not going to make it a contender for the Apatow market; it will in fact take it farther away by removing the heart and empathy of Ernie's initial characterization.
Please, if you have any inkling of your own inner twelve-year old, listen to that voice, and use your skills to bring the story closer to the people that make it real, not a pre-digested, predictable, forgettable and more expensive throwaway that will ultimately not earn back the money invested in the reshoot.

Yes, I wanted to save the movie....and I worked for months trying to save the cancer element. But guess what. It was the cancer of the cancer movie.
I don't mind being glib, because that is how the material was shot. Ernies script was great. Please tell him that. Heartfelt, funny, original. I would have loved to have tried to shoot his script. It required a nuanced approach. It would have been a challenge. Broad comedy and cancer do not mix. The comedy should not have been shot so broadly and winking. Please name a movie for me where that works. It was way out of kyle newman's league. Probably out of mine too. Maybe Jim Brooks on a good day good have got it right. But it is a small target Gabe. And when you miss you miss completely. Kyle missed completely. The actors missed. And when you see the "original" cut you can judge for yourself.
What works is the relationships, the friendships, the world that Ernie created and Kyle shot and a lot of the joy of fandom. And none of that is predicated on the device of one of them dying. Lucky the film works without it. Incredibly the film, in my opinion, is better without it.
No one wanted to dumb it down, rip out its heart and throw it into the mulitplex....The cancer element as shot, makes the movie pre digestible, predictable, embarrassing and lame. And if released would be met with a chorus of insane bad reviews bad boxoffice and Kyle Newman would never work again. Of course you know his follow up movie, Revenge of The Nerds was actually the only movie I have ever heard of that was shut down and cancelled three weeks into shooting. He was not fired, not replaced, no one was brought in to fix that movie...it was simply cancelled. Shut down. And Fox wrote off three million dollars. Now why do you think that is. Because he got everything wrong. The perfect storm. And the cut I was brought in to fix of fanboys was also a perfect storm of bad filmmaking.
I can understand the outsiders fear and distrust of all of this. But we are not ruining Ernies vision. Ernies vision was never captured. Come on out to Hollywood. Help me find it. Go through the dailies. I looked. It ain't there. And that sucks, because Ernie deserved better.
So we can either scrap the whole fucking thing or try to release a version that is entertaining. We are trying to do the later.
Sorry. But this shit happens all the time.....things get lost in translation.

OK. I'm sure the film may not be the movie ANYONE wants (they truly are always different from the original vision), but I think it was rather decent of him to write back. At this point, I just want it released.

I haven't seen anything on his track list, so I can't really say. I don't know who to trust because I've not seen either version of Fanboys. All we have to go by is word-of-mouth and those photos. I mean, of course I'm still on the side that's far, far away from Brill. I was just wondering if we're maybe praising a movie that's not as good as we're expecting (and I'm talking about the cancer version now). Frosty said it was far from being a masterpiece, and he's the one on our side. Sure, we know a lot about this movie. But let's face it: We have seen neither version in full.

Those people loved the original story as much as we did, being die-hard Chris fans who like a little drama with our comedy. It's not our movie anymore. That's the thing, SW fans WILL love this movie as it was intended. I have no idea how many SW fans there are but it's got to be in the millions. You name any profession and you'll find a SW fan in it. Doctors, lawyers, accountants, IT guys, contractors, gas station attendants, the kid cooking your burger. We're everywhere. We're loyal. We're internet-saavy.We are intelligent. We're everyday people with friends and families.--and we pump billions of dollars into the entertainment business.
So the answer to 'cleaning' up a movie (that thousands of my fellow Star Wars fans gave a standing O to, as well as a movie that I saw a large part of) is to remove the human element from it? You want to 'dirty' it up and add more nudity, and f-bombs to it? Well, the Star Wars movies obviously had lots of nudity and profanity in it, so the fans will love 'my' dumbed-down version. :angry:
I'm sorry, but these kinds of movies are for drunk frat boys and teens with nothing better to watch and they're released straight to video with titles such as , "American Pie: Naked Mile" and "Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj".
I don't expect a masterpiece from a comedy, but I do not want my intelligence insulted either.

That being said, I understand that there's gonna be some bias when SW fans watch a movie about SW fans. But you must understand that we as SW fans will not just accept any ol' 'fanfilm' and embrace it. We will speak out against it if we don't like something, for example: Jar Jar Binks, Greedo Shooting First, etc..
If Fanboy's wasn't really that good, we wouldn't be praising it.
To also address the non-SW fans. I honestly believe that an (edit) NON-SW fan could appreciate this film. Same way that someone who doesn't listen to KISS could like Detroit Rock City, or someone who doesn't like bowling could like Kingpin. I don't have to like NASCAR in order to like Talledega Nights. These probably aren't the best examples, but you hopefully get my point.

Bad Reviews?? Granted, this is Mr. Little Nicky/Heavyweights we're talking about here, so he must have some experience with Bad Reviews, but c'mon. Kyle never working again? That really pisses me off right there. Look at his example of Revenge of the Nerds being cancelled. He tries not to blame Kyle for this, but at the same time he blames Kyle. This guy, Brill, is garbage. I honestly hope that nice guys like Kyle are able to thrive in a business that is made up of no-talent, pieces of trash like Brill. No wonder 'Hollywood' is in so much trouble.

And Brill needs to seriously shut the fuck up with this never work again crap. He's had his head in Harvey's colon too long. That's like something Fat Bastard would say. Or better yet, Maury Chaykin playing Fat Bastard on Entourage. The classic ep, "Sorry Harvey" was just on last night and it dovetails so beautifully with what's happening to Fanboys.

I'd like for Mr. Shrill to explain why they refuse to test equally polished versions of each plot against each other in front of the same audience if he's so confident that the Corporate Cut is better.
