Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

Anne, did you get a copy of the updated Butterflies?  I sent one to TeeJay yesterday.  I can send you one if you need it.  Just say the word.

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

I sent Anne the updated Butterflies last night, no worries. She should be all set. smile

Yeah, I also think it's amazing how we keep inspiring each other and help each other out during rough spots. I sometimes wonder if people can tell what you wrote and what I wrote in chapters we did together. Anne, do you ever notice a difference in writing style within a chapter? But I think with all the editing we do to each other's stuff, we pretty much blend this stuff together very well. I should check my GMX e-mail if anyone sent in a review since last night.

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

Yeah, I now have an updated version.
Well, no, I don't notice a difference in the writing style I think. I mostly read it and try to understand it. But I didn't finish reading the new stuff yesterday. Still have to do that. Still have to finish my own fanfiction. I can't believe that it's a whole year ago since I started it. roll

Tina, here's something funny: Earlier this morning I was cleaning out some stuff of my room and guess what I found! LOL I found the printed OW/TAGH etc stories that I bound together some time. (You know, with this binding machine I have.) LOL I haven't read that in ages! yikes

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

I just printed out the latest few installments of Butterflies (unadulterated version), though I haven't had time to read any of it.  As I'm sure you realize, it's ginormous!

I'm still working on my story; I've posted 99 chapters and I think I can finish it in two more.  I've also been reading a ton of Supernatural fic, and printing out tons more.  One of these days I'll get around to everything.  In the meantime, keep up the good work!

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

99 chapters, huh?  OK, now I don't feel so bad about our fic getting so long.  Our working version, which has three more stories than we have posted so far is now 273 pages long.  Wow.

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

Cool!  Mine's about 350 pages at the moment, 290,000 words.  I'm pretty sure it'll be about 300,000 when it's done.  100's almost complete, and part of 101 (aka the Epilogue) is finished.  I really want to finish this thing by the end of the year.

Shameless Plug For Butterflies (PG Version):

We got this review recently and it's really one of the best things anyone has ever said about anything I've ever been a part of and I've been writing longer than most of you have been alive...

Hi,

I stumbled across this story yesterday. I don't normally read JoA fic, but every once in a while I get a craving to come back and visit one of my all time favourite pairings.

It's not a little over 24 hours later and I've completely devoured every chapter you have here.

This story is excellent. I really truly enjoyed it. I think it's amazing that two authors have come together to create something so cohesive. To be perfectly honest, I can't tell you apart, and that does wonders for the flow of the story.

This is a really powerful, moving story, and you've touched on some really deep topics in a thoughtful, realistic way. That's the real key: to me this story is 100% realistic. It doesn't seem to have any of the gimmicks of your average fanfic, it's just telling a true story of two people in love in a hard world - and yet shows that sort of hopeful, bright side of everything.

You've made me fall back in love with Adam and remember all the reasons I was so wrapped up in him when the show was on. I was also really happy to see that you didn't just ignore the God side of things, and it was nice to see Cute God pop in there and I'd love to hear more on those lines. This story feels like it could end at any time, but there is a wealth of stories to tell here.. and so for as long as you are willing to continue writing it, I really think I will enjoy reading it smile

The only thing I think this story is missing.. and this is not a complaint, or a prompt, I am just trying to be a well-rounded reviewer.. is some sort of revisiting of their high school break up and all that went on with them at that time. It's not so much that I feel like that wound still affects them, because I think the connection you formed over Adam's father's death sort of transcended that - but more so that one day I believe Joan deserves an explanation.

Anyway, aside from the brilliant plot, the excellent writing, just the overall beauty of this story - most of all I love the romantic heart of it, and I truly truly appreciate all the work you have done to share it smile

Wow.

Deb

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

Hey guys, we decided to give you (and us) a special treat and make a full web-version of our story Butterflies. While posting at fanfiction.net is all nice and well, you can't customize it a lot. And we wanted to add a picture to each chapter. We're still working on making pictures for each chapter, so right now only the first two are up. You can find the brand new Butterflies webpage here:

http://beam.to/joa-butterflies

More to be added when we find the time to update. We'll surely let you know.

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

Okay. Wow, what are the odds of another Adam/Joan fan using the nickname deedee? And you should definitely not read this story if you haven't finished watching season 2. But after that, go for it! We can send you a Word version if you find that easier to handle or if you wanna print it out. (Though.... 430+ pages and counting!! yikes)

Then what did you mean? Just that the chapter was too long? Or what did Joan and/or Adam do too much of?

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

No, it was just that the fact of Adam going to teach in some prison reminded me of Juding Amy a lot, cause they did the same with with Vincent (Amy's brother) once, only that he taught writing, not painting. And then suddenly you brought in Amy herself that was kinda funny. LOL
And, well, that thing with Alpha Dog. It was a nice idea to bring the movie in, but usually I don't like mixing fiction and reality like that. But that's just me. It was good in some way though.
