Rock with Barney

Here's a little something that Tisha (Chris's mom) allowed us to share with you about Chris and one of early acting experiences:

Chris was auditioning for the children's show "Barney" (the purple dinosaur) when he was 7 years old, this was gonna go to tape as something called "Rock with Barney". He had one line, which was, "Hi, I'm Pete." He was up for the part of replacing one of the original Barney kids, but was told at the time that he came across "too shy". Tisha shared that she will never forget he was absolutely terrified at the time. (Tina: How cute!)

Also, he couldn't believe when he met Barney under the costume, he was an Afro-American actor, and it blew Chris away... He had made Chris very comfortable at the time. You have to imagine, they were living in this town of Plano, Texas where Barney was everywhere. To this day, Chris will never forget  that the best thing that ever happened to him during his career was that he DID NOT book a part on Barney. He would have been stuck to a 7 year contract and never have made it to Georgia to be seen at a pageant where he was asked to look up an agent in New York if they ever made it that way, which is exactly what happened, and that is where his real career as a serious actor started.

And aren't we also glad that Chris didn't book the part? Thanks so much for sharing that, Tisha.

Re: Rock with Barney

Seems like that just wasn't meant to be then.

It still cracks me up though, what year was this? 'Cos I used to watch Barney, it was my fav show for my pre school + school years. I still remember the kids on it. So I would've seen him on it. Instead I see him much later on. Kind of interesting, like either way I would've seen him on Tv albeit in two very different ways.

I guess we are because if he did, he probably couldn't have made The Tic Code.

The VHS tape "Rock with Barney" was released in September 1993, according to amazon.com. So it was probably shot 1992 or 1993. We don't have Barney in Germany, but of course we have tons of other kid shows. The Teletubbies made it over here (sadly) and I grew up with the German version of Sesame Street, Die Sendung mit der Maus (= The Show With The Mouse) and Löwenzahn (= Dandelion). I'm sure I watched a few other shows, maybe I should ask my parents about that some time. smile

LOL, Oh God, me too! Plus I watched "Disney Club" every weekend. They were showing "Duck Tales"! I loved them! LOL
Oh, good old childhood! big_smile
Yeah, the Teletubbies! I hate them. If I should have children in near or distant future, I will NOT allow them to watch that TV crap. roll

I really don't see the point of teletubbies. They're so stupid and they don't 'do' anything. Does anyone even like them? roll

Re: Rock with Barney

They're supposed to be for babies, actually.  That's why they just float around and coooooo.

Re: Rock with Barney

I wouldn't let a baby watch TV already. Plus I think Teletubbies make children dumb.
