Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

They're gone for me too. I've e-mailed the support people. But once the ellipses are gone, I doubt there's gonna be a way to put them back in other than reuploading all the chapters. Which I don't wanna do for Butterflies, that would take me days. I saw they made some changes to the module they use with which you upload your texts. Maybe that's what caused this.

So I guess if they can't fix it, we'll have to take our story elsewhere and put info on FFN to redirect people. What other good places are there to publish fanfic?

EDIT: They introduced a new text format called DocX. It preserves more of the original format of your Word document, but it also puts double row breaks in where there should only be one row break (if you know what I mean). If I use the normal text format (which you can also choose), it'll just remove all the ellipses altogether. Which totally sucks.

Strangely enough, for already uploaded and published chapters, the ellipses are still there when I export the chapter and look at it in the editing window. They just don't display in the published story anymore. What are we gonna do?

I could go back and put horizontal lines in each chapter, like this: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2641316/1/A_Friend_In_Need
But that would still require me to go through every chapter manually. Like I said, it would take days and it'd be a major nuisance. And frankly, I'd rather spend my time differently.

Let's see. I'm not familiar with LJ and I'd have to go look into how it works and stuff. I just fixed up Why? with the horizontal bars on FFN because that's in the awards competition. But if I wanted to do it with all my stories, geez, that'd really be a LOT of work. And if we go with a whole other fanfic portal, it doesn't change the fact that we'd have to re-upload everything.

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

You have an LJ, so I'm gonna guess you know how to make one... if you don't, I can help with that.  To post on LJ, it's just a lot of copy/paste work.  I didn't realize how much work, though, until I got the genius idea to move all 250 (at the time) stories I have onto a different journal, on a different website.

So it is a lot of work...

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

Yeah, I even put up a custom design for my LJ (that I never really use), just to see how it works. I can figure it out, that's not the problem. It would just be a lot of work, like you said. We might as well stay with FFN and put in the horizontal lines...

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

FFN sucks for doing this without notifying anyone.  So I guess we'll lose a lot of readers who'll get fed up with how choppy everything reads and how long it all seems.  Oh well, I guess we had a nice ride while it lasted.

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

OK guys, the new chapter is up on FFN.  Beware of Bonnie-content and references to the not-so-happy events in high school.  But we hope we've dealt with it all in a satisfying way.

:applause: That was great guys. I have to admit I was a little worried when you mentioned Bonnie content. And I won't spoil anyone. But I loved this chapter. Their return to high school was truly a good read. Okay, enough of my gushing.:P

Look at the cake topper in the middle.  It's too funny.  Not as cool as what we came up with for Butterflies, but close.

Thanks so much, Thea! :embarrassed: I'm so glad you liked them. The good thing is: You've still got lots of Butterflies ahead of you. You should probably read "Jane" before you read Butterflies, though.

TeeJay, you really have to stop skimming posts and actually read them.  She said she's reading Jane next.  Look at her post again.

And thanks, Thea.  Glad you're enjoying them.  smile

Re: Joan of Arcadia - Butterflies

See, that doctor's appt thing is how I used to read so much Buffy fic.  My mom was sick for about 4 years before she passed.  I read what would probably equal 10 novels worth of Buffy fics over those years.  I even ended up writing a little bit.

Glad you're enjoying it, Thea.  Especially since you're reading the smut version.  Once you're done with what there is of the main story (it's still ongoing), let me know and I'll link you to the little Butterflies satellite smutfics.  They're just short ones that are all about the lovin'.
