Wait a minute, they are going to make two different DVDs? What the....??? All this time, I thought they were talking about putting both versions on one DVD. If they release two different DVDs, I'm gonna find someone who has them and get a copy made and not pay any money for the total whackjob Weinstein has been doing with this movie. I was willing to spend money on one DVD if it had both versions. I'm not gonna buy two DVDs of the "same" movie just because Harvey thinks he can make more $$$ through that.

I emailed them to ask them where they got that.

From everything I've read today and it has been a lot, they are releasing BOTH versions on ONE DVD. And this will be AFTER theatrical release IF they decide it merits a theatrical release. They are investigating the possibility of releasing both versions in theaters. But some of us won't hold our breath for that.

Like I said, I fully expect them to drop the whole idea after The 501st destroys the huge $$$ haul SuperCrapFest Movie would've pulled down this weekend.

I think we'll have to wait until the dvd is officially announced as to what exactly they are planning.

The way they have stated their dvd plans is vague at best. All I got from the Reuters and comingsoon.net articles is that they will release both versions on dvd.

I can't find anywhere where they specifically say either separate or one dvd. "Both versions on dvd" can mean either. They even could do how WB did I am Legend and have a two disc set with one version on each disc.

And lots of extras, please. Extensive interviews with the main cast. Bloopers and outtakes. Behind-the-scenes making-ofs. Cast and crew commentary. I want it ALL! Okay, so maybe I would pay money for that. But only if it was released as one DVD set and not if it was released as two different DVDs, just to rip us off even more.

Weinstein was supposed to release Kill Bill in a set called "Whole Bloody Affair' this past fall. But that never happened and no news yet on a release.

They also go a lot of flack for releasing the Grindhouse films as 2 separate films.

My point is that they tend to not care what fans want and either make them wait with no explanation (Kill Bill) or piss off fans by screwing up a release of a film on dvd. So I wouldn't get my hopes up that they would actually release a dvd of this film with what the fans would like to see featured.

'Star Wars' Fans Call for 'Superhero Movie' Boycott
An announcement by The Weinstein Co. that it now plans to release two versions of its comedy Fanboys -- one featuring the original cut; the other the cut ordered by Harvey Weinstein -- has failed to mollify supporters of the original version, who are threatening to boycott and picket the Weinstein's Superhero Movie, which opens on Friday. "This [the Weinstein announcement] is more about avoiding picket lines at Superhero than it was about making a decision about the release of our movie," Kevin Mann, one of the producers, told the Hollywood Reporter. The movie concerns a group of Star Wars fans who break into George Lucas's studios to see an advance screening of The Phantom Menace. In the original version, one of the fans is battling cancer. In the revised one, references to cancer have been removed. "The original reason we wanted to get involved with this script was because it was a comedy with heart," Mann told the trade paper. "In my opinion, when the cancer was taken out, the heart went with it." On their website, http://committed.to/stopdarthweinstein, fans who had seen the rough cut of the movie and/or clips at Star Wars conventions, vowed that their protest "will continue until the Weinstein Co. announces that they are returning control of Fanboys to the Star Wars fans who made it, releasing the original version in theaters and doing away with their anti-fan version of the film altogether."

It was just a matter of time before they covered it.
