Drumrolll please...

I just got permission from Chris to tell you all that he will be playing a character called Pope, newest addition to the shadowy government agency pursuing alien siblings, Seth and Sara in Disney's new re-imagining of the Witch Mountain movies from the 1970s. This is not a remake. It's more like a continuation of the Witch Mountain mythology.

Chris calls the character... "a cool young kid out of MIT, who's a genius at computers." And he says, "My boss is played by Ciaran Hinds (Rome). And my partner is played by Tom Everett Scott (That Thing You Do)."

The cast also includes, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Carla Gugino and Gary Marshall. AnnaSophia Robb and Alex Ludwig play the kids.

The first week of shooting just came to a close. Chris promises to keep us updated as the shoot progresses.

Hi. The director is on the phone with me as I type this and I am reading through these questions for him - he is very old friend of mine. He said perhaps that the FBI confusion comes from the fact that Ciaran Hinds character Burke runs a shadowy government/military agency - a dark Men In Black and that maybe people think his team are FBI - which they are not. There are 3 key members of Burke's team so perhaps that is one of the actors you are talking about.
As for making actor announcements - he said they are putting information out through the normal process of studio releasing stuff - it all comes out of a publicity department. But he feels shortly people will know everyone else.
He also asked me to please emphasis - he is HUGE fan of the original film - and that's why this movie is not a remake of it - he loves that one way to much to try to redo it - this is a brand new story within the Witch Mountain mythology. If you love the original - you'll be able to watch this movie and play connect the dots throughout it and hopefully love it as much. This is also a big action/adventure film too - he said there are lots of surprises for the audience.
They just wrapped their first week of filming late last night - and it went great!

If Pope is at MIT and he's gonna be recruited into a black project that will utilize his talents, it could initially be this one...

Here's my completely ass-hat guess. Burke has three key people on his team. Tom Everett Scott is one, Chris is one, what if Carla Gugino (who's character is descibed as a UFO expert) is the third one? But she defects to help the kids? The plot synopsis says that she enlists The Rock's help to save the kids from the evil guys who are after them. Maybe Pope, since he's the newest recruit and Chris describes him as cool, will turn coat on the bad guys too.

I put together a quick Filmo entry for the movie. Deb, you're gonna be the one researching the death out of this one, please let me know if you feel there's something I should add there. Current info is pretty sparse...

Plus, I think I need to watch the original movie before I can join any speculation. Bummer is that it costs €30 on amazon.de. No way I'm gonna pay that kind of money for it. Wait, I found the "Escape to Witch Mountain"/"Return From Witch Mountain" 2-movie edition for just about €15 incl. postage. Maybe I'm gonna order that one...

Make sure to buy a multi pack of blank DVDs along with your new gear. (For me and Anne it doesn't matter if it's DVD-R or DVD+R and you should make sure your DVD writer can do both.) (Also make sure you ask me how to rip a DVD because it's not as easy as just making a 1:1 copy. Unless you use a double-layer DVD, but those are more expensive.) But let's take the details offline, we're supposed to talk about the movie here.

Wow, this is cool! I remember watching these movies after school back in the day. The originals were fun but very dated now. I usually moan and groan when I hear about a movie being remade...in this case, I'm excited to see it!

I remember hearing about this movie in an interview with Dwayne Johnson. Never thought that Chris would also be an addition to it.

Same here, Simon. I knew about it for months before we learned of Chris's involvement. And we've known for a while that he was attached to it, but couldn't say anything till he gave us the go-ahead. I've had a lot of time to think about it and I'm getting pretty geeked up for it. I love that it's really more like a sequel than a remake.

Guys Andy Fickman's friend, Nugen asks that we don't spread word of Chris and Tom's involvement in the film just yet. There's going to be a press release very soon, according to Andy. And if word gets out, they're afraid the press won't pick up the story. We can talk about it here, but please no one mention it on IMDb.

Escape To & Return From Witch Mountain are the quintessential movies of my youth. I was 11 when I saw the first movie and 13 when I saw the second one, both repeatedly. I was obsessed with them.
