Re: Misc Stuff

Enchanted any good?

Meijer has it on sale beginning on Thursday for $9.99, plus they have a $5 off coupon on any purchase. So I could get it for $4.99.

They also have Alvin and the Chipmunks on sale for the same price, but I don't know about that one.

I thought it was really cute.  It hits every fairy tale cliche, but in a really sweet way.

Re: Misc Stuff

Some of my friends saw Enchanted, they didn't like it. I admit, I would watch it because of Patrick Demsey but well ... I still have Grey's Anatomy on TV here, so why spend money for a schmaltzy movie if I could wait for the DVD? That's a lot cheaper.

Re: Misc Stuff

'Shanghai' Goes to Thailand

Thailand will stand in for China after the Chinese government refused to allow The Weinstein Co. to film its movie Shanghai in Shanghai, the New York Post reported today (Wednesday). "After spending three months in Shanghai doing pre-production, China decided they didn't want us there. They took our permit away," Harvey Weinstein told the newspaper's "Page Six" column. The government's decision, he added, forced him to travel all over Southeast Asia to scout locations. He said that the government had pulled a number of other Western film permits in reaction to the controversial sex scenes that appeared in Taiwanese director Ang Lee's award-winning Lust, Caution, which was filmed in China but condemned by Chinese cultural officials.

Hmmmm.  Maybe they're pissed off at Harvey about Fanboys too.  wink

Empire magazine's 50 Greatest TV Shows of All Time.  Pretty good list, in reverse order...

Re: Misc Stuff

Yeah, there's some really good stuff there, but where is Joan? Where is GA, Numb3rs .... there is a lot of stuff missing in that list!
I was kind of surprised that they put Life On Mars on the list, but it's cool. I love that show.

Re: Misc Stuff

Yeah, there are a LOT of really glaring omissions.  Frasier but no Cheers?  Please!  And David Lynch is great but, in my opinion, Twin Peaks strapped on Fonzie's skis about 15 minutes into the pilot.

I think whoever did the voting/compiling has an exceedingly short memory.  A lot of those were recent shows that'll fade from memory in time.  And they (like me) got too disgusted with the backstage dramas going on on the "Grey's Anatomy" set to remember accurately what a fantastic show it is!  Shonda Rhimes has created an unforgettable  show here, the grousing of a very few malcontent cast members shouldn't detract from that.

Re: Misc Stuff

Remember, this is a British magazine.  If we compiled the list some of the British stuff would go.  Python would stay, but I think Flowery Twats, er sorry, Fawlty Towers would have to go.  As much as I loved it, it was only a limited series, too short-lived to qualify.  I'd keep Red Dwarf, but Black Adder would go.

There's a lot of American shows I would cut, too.  But that's what these lists are for, to inspire discussion.

Re: Misc Stuff

I'm just insanely happy Veronica Mars was on the list, even if it was near the bottom.  See what three years of crappy ratings but great writing gets?  big_smile  I think JoA should have been on though.

Re: Misc Stuff

I wasn't wild about "Red Dwarf", but loved "Blackadder".  I loved that it was hilarious and completely filthy, yet they aired it on PBS.  In this country if they're wearing historical costumes and speaking in British accents we automatically think it's classy.

I recognized him.  From the first movie when his teeth took up like 60% of his face.

Re: Misc Stuff

This would be a good movie for Chris to audition for...

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Warner Bros. has picked up "Treehouse Gang," a spec by Timothy Dowling, one of the people behind the spoof short "George Lucas in Love." The studio acquired it for "Harry Potter" producer David Heyman.

The story revolves around a group of kids -- four boys and two girls -- who were treasure hunters in their youth. After their 10-year high school reunion, they gather for one last grand treasure hunt a la "The Goonies."

In more sickening Les Moonves news... the jerk gives himself a raise while his network flounders and they lay people off.  What a wonderful human being:

I don't like the title, but I wouldn't mind seeing Chris in this (or anything really). I loved Goonies and still think Sean Astin is a cutie.
