I can't stand Shia. He annoys me and the only movie I like of his is "Disturbia".
Offline
I love Shia, but the dude needs to stop pretending he's an action star. It's driving me insane.
Offline
Totally agree, Bre. The promo for this movie made him look so stupid.

For sure. Just looking at his resume lately pisses me off -- it seems like he's picking roles for the money and/or status rather than the actual screenplay. I mean, sure, given the opportunity, most people would jump at the chance to be in an Indiana Jones movie. But Transformers 2? Eagle Eye? Puh-lease!
I miss the days when he was less in the public eye and working mainly in independent film. He's really impressive in A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints and Bobby. Hell, he was impressive in Holes. But now? He's still got the likable charm (for the most part), but I'm so, so sick of the reluctant hero characters he keeps portraying. He needs to try something new and preferably less lame. Oy.

I forgot about the movie "Holes". I really like that movie. I have it on DVD and I even have the soundtrack.

I've looked at the trailer today, and it looks really good. I'm definitely gonna watch this when it comes to Germany and screens in English. Planned release date for Germany is October, so just about a month after you guys.
And I gotta say this: Shia actually looks like a grown-up.

This is REALLY not my kind of movie, but I'm excited to see it. It's the first time I've seen Shia with sex appeal. Haha, it makes me feel wrong, but he's suddenly sexy.

Watched the early review on the newly revamped At the Movies and they both really liked it. Going by the clips I will say it does look very good.

I'd love to catch this one while we're in LA, but I know there is no way in hell Deb's gonna watch it (I could slap my hand across her eyes every time Sheephead is in the picture--LOL). I don't really think there'll be time for going to the movies anyway.
I'll catch it when it comes to Germany. I'm positive it'll show somewhere without dubbing. It comes here the day I get back from LA anyway, so I don't even have to wait. Sweet!

I went to see the movie last night, so let me post my thoughts.
First of all, I must say that I had a really good time, watching it. However, whether you'll enjoy this movie or hate it has a lot to do with expectations. If you want to see a realistic movie with modest, natural-feeling special effects, this definitely not the movie for you. It is over the top. VERY over the top. Things happen where you constantly shake your head because it's so exorbitantly overdone. But for me, that was part of the fun. I expected to see a tight, fast-paced and thrilling action movie with a halfway intelligent story, and that's what I got. Whether it was completely realistic or not wasn't the point.
I've gone over previous posts and reactions here on the board just now, and I had to smile at Brenna's comment about Shia having to stop pretending he's an action star. Don't judge a book by its cover, the movie isn't just mindless action. And that's probably why I liked it so much. There's a none too subtle emotional level that weaves through the whole film, that drives the characters and motivates them. Shia and Michelle not only got to be action stars, they also got to show a range of emotions and emotional responses. And they did it very well.
You know, I'm no big fan of Shia LaBeouf. The only things I've seen him in is ER (when he was a kid), Transformers, Disturbia and now Eagle Eye. I thought he did well in all of them, but Eagle Eye was the first one where he actually impressed me. No matter what kind of jerk he may be as a person, he can certainly act. And he can cry beautifully on screen. The scenes where he got emotional really got to me. And I know there will be a lot of people hating me for saying this, but he made it really easy to imagine Chris playing the role of Jerry Shaw instead of Shia, both visually and acting-wise.
What I also liked about the movie was the cinematography. I'm not talking about the special effects, those were copious, opulent and loud. Maybe even a bit too much of that. But I loved how the used extreme facial close-ups whenever they focussed on the human aspect of the story. Sometimes it can have a negative effect when a movie's cinematography effects are too much (attention, pun approaching!) in-your-face, but for me in this movie it really worked.
I'm not sure I liked the movie enough to buy the DVD. Maybe I will when I find it for a bargain price somewhere, a few months down the road. It's not one of those movies that I wanna rewatch over and over.
I daresay purist action fans will love it, and people like me who enjoy a good story with emotional undertones will at the very least like it (if they can overlook the gross exaggerration at times). But the woman next to me (who almost ruined the movie for me) was obviously expecting a movie that was a bit more realistic, because she was constantly shaking her head and uttering dismissive laughs and snorting sounds. Gee, woman, if you don't like mindless action (though this wasn't all that mindless), don't watch it!

While it was a fun and entertaining movie, I don't think I'm gonna buy this one. At least not before it's available in the bargain bin somewhere. Thanks for the info, though. Cover looks good.

I think I'll watch this one if I ever happen to come across it. I haven't seen Shia in a lot of roles, but the little I have, I like him. And I did think he was a bit of a turn-on for me in the Transformer-movie. :embarrassed:
I have to add, I love how Illinois always tells us about the DVD releases! Thanks!

Haha, I know how you feel, Maria. I thought he was incredibly attractive in Eagle Eye. You know, in an early-20's Hollywood actor kinda way.

Me too!
