I had a surprise this weekend.

My ex-roommate that had the stroke visited this weekend. He is actually doing a lot better then my landlord led me to believe. He can actually talk fairly clearly, walks with a cane and he said that they expect him to get full use of his paralyzed side. He does get cramps though from time to time on the paralyzed side. At first I didn't recognize him because he had a shaved head.

So looks like the outcome is better then I expected and I am very happy for him.

Still didn't have Internet when I got home so I called my ISP. Apparently, ZoneAlarm users are having problems because of the latest Microsoft security update. They want $2.95 a minute to troubleshoot the problem. Screw that! So I'm online right now all nekkid, with no firewall. Scary! And annoying. :angry:

Has anyone else run across this yet? And do you know how to fix it?

Check Point Software Technologies, makers of Zone Alarm, posted three suggestions to fix the problem: set the firewall to medium security, uninstall the patch, or add your DNS servers to the trusted zone of the application.

Found that via a news search.

I hope that helps, otherwise I don't know since I don't use zonealarm.

Well, since I don't know how to uninstall the patch or where to find DNS server info, I set the firewall to medium security. Let's see if that helps. Thanks, Illinois!

Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: CHKP), the worldwide leader in securing the Internet, is today providing ZoneAlarm customers with a solution to address the loss of Internet access which may occur after the installation of Microsoft Update KB951748.
In a posted Security Advisory, Check Point informed ZoneAlarm users of several options for restoring connectivity to the Internet. The options include: a) temporarily uninstalling yesterday's hotfix KB951748 issued by Microsoft, which caused the loss of Internet access or b) setting firewall security to "medium."
Later today, Check Point will be issuing a ZoneAlarm update that provides a permanent solution to users.

Deb, maybe you wanna consider switching to another firewall. There's other options out there. I'll have to look into that when I get home tonight. Or you wait for the ZA patch.

Crap! My computer's still acting all whackadoodle! I just got online, after sitting on the phone with Charter for almost an hour only to finally discover that somehow my modem drivers magically uninstalled themselves. During all the rebooting up and down, I lost my keyboard and had to unhook everything and drag the laptop out off its shelf and do everything. Then my batter backup thingie went nuts. God, that was so damn frustrating. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

My internet connection is behaving crappy too. It wouldn't let me go online and today it even killed the security settings of my w-lan! If that happens again, I am definitely going to call the hotline. So, in case you wondered why I'm not online regularly, I really try to come here if I am not too tired after work, but if the internet connection doesn't want to let Cooper go online, I just can't!

I feel your pain. I myself need to find someone with a spare DSL modem. I called the hotline today and they said that upon checking my line, everything appeared to be fine. They'll only send out a technician if there's something definitely wrong with the line, or else I'll have to pay for it. They asked me to try a different modem because mine might be faulty. Guess I need to ask people who possibly has one to spare. I can't think of anyone off the top of my head. Darn. Until I find someone, I'm probably gonna have to live with these recurring connection problems I'm having on and off, or else just buy a DSL modem.

It's finally here, the list of 600 Starbucks that are going the way of the dinosaur. Funnily enough, I was having lunch at the Mexican restaurant right next door to the one on Roswell Rd at 285 in Sandy Springs that will be closing, just as a local news station interviewed their customers live on the noon news --- which was playing on the TV in the restauarant as I ate. Kinda surreal.

All those poor haughty java fiends. Where will they get their daily fix now?
