"Joan of Arcadia" on SciFi Channel

For those of you who haven't bought those disks yet, the Sci Fi Channel will begin airing "Joan of Arcadia" tomorrow evening, Friday, July 11, at 8:00 EST.  It will air weekly at that time.

Re: "Joan of Arcadia" on SciFi Channel

Dave told me about this last night.  So it's back in it's old timeslot, just on another channel.  Sweet!  It's very cool of SciFi to pick it up, but man, I sure would've expected it to land o Hallmark or Lifetime before SciFi!

Definitely cool news. For everyone who's only seen the DVD version, now is your chance to see the episodes with the original music that was used on the show when it aired on CBS.

Re: "Joan of Arcadia" on SciFi Channel

There are a couple of the replaced songs that I liked better than the originals.  I liked the song at the end of "No Bad Guy" better than the Beck song.  And I liked whatever they used to replace Jewel's "Have A Little Faith In Me".  But I'm definitely looking forward to seeing them as they were originally aired.  Fingers crossed.

Re: "Joan of Arcadia" on SciFi Channel

I definitely preferred that No Bad Guy DVD song too.  It's so beautiful.  That's why the wedding chapter of Butterflies is called Everything... Always.  smile

What ep was the Jewel thing in?  I don't remember it.  That's the John Hiatt song, right?

I'm also a little worried that they'll cut for time.  There's always more commercials in syndicated shows.  sad

Re: "Joan of Arcadia" on SciFi Channel

"Secret Service" which was a weird episode all around.  Maybe the Jewel song was more appropriate, but it seemed kind of anvillicious.  God says, "Your work is out there, Joanie.  You just gotta have a little faith."  And then they go right into "Have A Little Faith In Me".

I LOVED "Everything, Always"!  When you all were talking about the chapter on the boards in code, kind of, I thought EA meant "Ever After".

Re: "Joan of Arcadia" on SciFi Channel

You know, the fact is, every use of Have A Little Faith In Me, ever, has actually been anvillicious, if you ask me.  It's a beautiful song.  I'm a huge John Hiatt fan.  But man has it ever become a cliche'.

I'm very attached to that scene in NBG.  That's why I had to bring it into the wedding vows.  People argue with me about this, but I honestly always think of it as the first time Adam and Joan said I love you.  I kinda did it like that the first time too.  It's inevitably awkward that first time.  But they are just so touching in that moment...

Re: "Joan of Arcadia" on SciFi Channel

Yeah, another time I remember the song used was in "Phenomenon", the John Travolta movie.  I like the song (though not the Jewel version so much), just not the way it's been used & overused.

Who argues with you?  What else does, "I don't just like you." mean?  "I really, really, really, really REALLY like you"?  Bah!

Re: "Joan of Arcadia" on SciFi Channel

LOL!  I know!  I don't get that either.  It's so obvious.  The weird thing was the first person was someone who used to post on here who was a grown-up, like us.  And very insightful.  But she wholeheartedly disagreed with me.  Of course, she really didn't like Joan.  She insisted that Joan never said "I love you" to Adam until they were having trouble, and that when she did say it she only used it as an admonition or to guilt him.  I don't see that at all.

There are a lot of people who don't like Joan.  She could be a little self-centered, but she did have a LOT on her mind.

Yep.  And she did say "I love you", dammit.  She bloody well did!

Re: "Joan of Arcadia" on SciFi Channel

I think she said "I love you" plenty of times before things got all weird between them.  Yes, she didn't really say it, but she didn't have to.  You knew.  It was there.  I always just thought that she was scared of actually saying the words, so she found different ways to say it.

Re: "Joan of Arcadia" on SciFi Channel

Yes, that's true, but she actually said the words, too.  She did.  One of the only moments in that awkward, poorly written camper scene in Independence Day that moves me is how she says "I love you," and kisses his cheek after she tells him she's not ready to have sex.  She's just about to cry as she says it and she really needs him to believe it.  There are other examples, but I'm too tired and muddy-headed to recall and recount them right now.

Re: "Joan of Arcadia" on SciFi Channel

Yeah I can't remember specifics right off the top of my head, either.  But I think it's colored by how people felt about Joan.  She did odd, sometimes hurtful, things.  She fouled up, while he was pretty much perfect.  Until one day. roll  But really I don't remember him saying it all that much, either.  Like Laura said, it was there.  For both of them.

He said it too.  More often than she did.  One of these days I'm gonna catalog these instances just to prove it because it has always kind of bugged me that people have that misperception.

Re: "Joan of Arcadia" on SciFi Channel

"Maybe it's like that anti-drug guy said: romantic love, it's like a mental illness.  It just happens.  And then what are you gonna do?"  Was that the first time?

Because I know that, "I don't just like you occurred during the Iris (plot contrivance 1-A) period.  (BTW, Clay was plot contrivance 1-J).

Re: "Joan of Arcadia" on SciFi Channel

For me, the first time for Joan was near the end of Book of Questions.  She said something like "I couldn't stand to lose two people I love."

Re: "Joan of Arcadia" on SciFi Channel

Really?  You don't buy the, "I don't just live you" thing?

Whenever either of them said it, after "The Gift" the open secret was out.  And Joan told Grace that she loved him.  If he ever had a bad day, Grace would've spilled the beans.:P

See?  To Laura, NBG doesn't count.  I give up.

And No Bad Guy does count.  I just meant Book of Questions was the first time she really said it.

Re: "Joan of Arcadia" on SciFi Channel

But what she said in BOQ is not exactly saying the words, "I love you" either...
