Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

I started watching Moonlight (on TV) and when I checked that guy who plays the main character, I noticed that he was in The Invisible with Chris. And I didn't even realized it. LOL (Okay, but he looks way different in that show and I never really payed attention to other actors from TI (except Chris, the Annie girl and Marcia Gay Harden of course.)

Into The Wild is a great movie. One of the best I've seen this year. It certainly left a big impression on me. I haven't seen There Will Be Blood. Not my kind of movie...

Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

Just a little warning about There Will Be Blood, the case is not the standard plastic case. Both the regular dvd editions come in an envelope, and I've read on a message board that because of this that some people received scratched discs.

Hopefully you'll receive them in fine condition.

Edit. May only apply to the Region 1 release, don't know about the UK releases case.

Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

I heard Into the Wild had impressions on a lot of people, and how Emile is amazing in the role.

As i grow each year as a film fan, i've have opened up to more drama based films. There are films i've watched this year, that if released last year i wouldn't have bothered about seeing. Similar case with nudity. Last year, i would have thought nudity in a film was disturbing (especially if male). Now, i just see it as natural and don't have any problems at all with it.

I've seen There Will Be Blood in the shops already and they are not in the plastic cases. Probably in what you are describing. The only way i would describe them are cardboard cases. Hopefully mine comes without any scratches.

"Into The Wild" is an amazing movie! Emile Hirsch is 1 of my favorite actors and I've seen him in a lot of movies. His best performance is definitely ITW. I really think you'd like it.  smile

Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

Just caught the I'm Reed Fish posts.

Here are some pics I took at the World Premiere of I'm Reed Fish at the 2006 Tribeca Film Festival. Most of the cast & crew were there. The Q&A was freewheeling and fun, and they stayed to meet & greet the crowd.

The poster

It was one of my Top Picks from that festival but most of my reviews pre-September 2006 got lost when my site switched databases. That was before I was posting at a dozen places.

Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

A girl that was born with leukemia and needs a kidney donor. The only match is her twin sister and her sister doesn't want to give away 1 of her kidneys. She goes to an attorney and sues her parents for pushing her to keep on donating blood cells and go through with the transplant.
You can read about it more on IMDB.

Re: In Praise of Chris's Colleagues

Jay Baruchel is becoming quite the indie darling (along with other folks we know). He seems to be everywhere.

That said, I just saw him in a big budget Hollywood movie -- Tropic Thunder -- on Tuesday night. It was produced, written, and stars Ben Stiller and is hilarious. Jay is awesome in it. It comes out in the US on August 13.

You can read about it more on IMDB.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1078588/

I don't think the girls were twins, though.  The donor sister was a lot younger than the one who was sick.  It's based (in a highly fictionalized way) on a real case.  A couple's 16-year-old daughter (and only child) was diagnosed with leukemia and needed bone marrow transplants to survive.  Neither parent was a match.  Desperate to save her, they made the highly controversial decision to have another child to increase the girl's chance of survival.

I love the idea of telling the story from the younger girl's point of view, when she was old enough to discover the circumstances of her life.  Should be a great movie.

Sounds terrific.  Big Nick told me he's taking a beating on the IMDb boards over it though.  He invited me to come and help him defend himself.  How cute is that?  tongue
