Re: Randomness

I've been watching the news about the hurricane as well. I have a lot of relatives that live in Louisiana where the hurricane is supposed to hit.

Re: Randomness

Yesterday was just a normal Monday at work, but today actually rocked. I had a really great day and I am proud of that because my colleague is currently on vacation, which means I have to do all the stuff he usually does, too. But I did great today. LOL

20 days until I'm on vacation and 29 days until we go to LA!!!! :dancing:

I spent over 400 dollars on books for school yesterday and today.  And now I need to go get a 100 dollar calculator.  I really hope I get paid soon.  College isn't nice to my wallet sad

Ouch!  I guess it has been a while since I was in college, and I thought I was paying a lot for books.

Yikes! I've had semesters where my bookstore bill was insane as well.

I needed one of those expensive calculators in high school -- which math are you taking that requires one?

Re: Randomness

Intermediate Algebra.  I was in lower levels math in high school, in the rare cases we need graphing calculators the teachers supplied them.   I've had my scientific since my freshman year in high school, so I guess it is time to upgrade.

Re: Randomness

I have no idea when I'm gonna get paid.  I need to pay my mom back for the books and crap and I wanna save up for a new computer.  I'm kinda starting to wonder if my boss is ever gonna pay me or she just expects me to be doing free labor.

Re: Randomness

That sucks.  And it's also probably a labor violation.

Re: Randomness

Grrrrr. We really have a two-tier system in Germany. I spent AN HOUR at the doctor's today, just to get a prescription to get two damn compression socks or whatever these things are called in English. ONE HOUR for a FIVE MINUTE DIAGNOSIS!!!:angry::angry:
My mom was in the waiting room and she told me the other people kept coming and going while I was SITTING in that stupid muggy surgery room with nothing to read!!! When we finally got out of the office, I told my mom that she can tell the doc I will never come back, I'm going to search for another doctor.

Re: Randomness

One hour? And you're complaining? I've spend three hours in a waiting room for a five minute thing. It sucks, but what are you gonna do? At least we get things either for free or with a small co-pay. Try paying 15 EUR on every prescription you get instead of 5. I think we're really well off here in Germany, even though our system isn't quite that perfect either. Next time, just take a novel with you. That's what I always do.

Re: Randomness

Well, at my old doc's, I never had to wait that long. And why did that stupid receptionist put me into the surgery room when I arrived, instead of the waiting room? If I had been in the waiting room, it wouldn't have been that bad. But she put me in that stinky surgery room and kept saying "He'll be there soon, no worries, blah, blah, blah." And then it took him five minutes to give me the prescription and I could leave.
Anyways, I won't go back there.

I'm sorry, Anne. I hate having to wait at the doctor's and I know how you feel. I think everyone does.

Re: Randomness

Of course you're right, Anne. If you don't like the doc you went to, go to another one. At least here in Germany we're free to choose our doctors, with only few limitations. There's no point in getting treatment from someone who you don't like seeing. Sometimes the long wait is worth it if you at least feel comfortable with your doctor and you have the impression he has your best interest at heart and cares about you getting better. That's not always the case, and that, in my mind, isn't right.

Having worked in the pharma industry for a few years now, maybe I'm a bit disillusioned too. Doctors aren't the Gods in White that some people imagine them to be. And, sadly, a lot of seeing patients and prescribing them treatment is now governed by administrative and budget restrictions. The course of treatment you're given isn't always the best or the most suitable one, it's the one that's the cheapest and most convenient for your health insurance or your doc without putting you at risk. At least that's my impression.

Re: Randomness

This is great:

Postcard turns up after 79 years

A postcard has been delivered by Britain's Royal Mail 79 years after it was sent.

The picture postcard was sent in 1929 from Burnham-on-Crouch, Essex, and intended for Mr and Mrs Richardson in East Dulwich, London.
However it was not delivered until a week ago when it finally dropped through the letter box of Arthur Davies and June Nicolopoulos after a delay of nearly eight decades.

Mr Davies, 59, a construction manager, said: "I've heard of delays but this takes some beating – I reckon it's been under a skirting board at a Royal Mail building all this time.

"It's amazing that Royal Mail even delivered it at all after all these years."

The postcard arrived inside a Royal Mail envelope with a sticker reading, "we are sorry that this item has been damaged/delayed in the post".
