Re: Randomness

I'm so sorry, Laura. I lost a good friend two years ago, he died very suddenly and no one was expecting it. He was only 34. We were all in shock then too. I know it doesn't mean much right now, but time really does heal wounds, even though some can't be healed completely. I still get moments where I think of Carsten and can't believe that I'll never see him again.

My thoughts are with you, I hope you all get through this and stay strong.

Re: Randomness

Thanks, guys.  I still just really don't want to believe this is happening.

For those of you who didn't know (I think Deb and Carol were maybe the only ones who did)  Magical Turkey was an inside joke between me and Whinnie.  A turkey jumped in front of the car we were driving in, she told it it was magical and could fly away: "Fly, magical turkey!  Fly away home!".  It listened to her and flew, what we didn't know was that it landed on the roof of the car.  We started moving again, the turkey fell off and we ran him over.

Re: Randomness

I just read her obituary.  Liam's father is listed as her husband (they're in the process of a divorce).  Shawn's listed as a friend, who's family was "like her second family".

Re: Randomness

Someone had to give them that information.  Reckon it was her mom?  The paper only prints what they're told. I had to do the obits for my stepdad and my mom.  The funeral service director has this form that you fill out and then they call in the obit to the paper from the form.  At least that's how it worked here.

Re: Randomness

Yeah, I know that her mom told them to print it like that.  I just can't believe it's worded like that, I don't think Whinnie would have liked it. Her and Shawn were just engaged.  When I say just I mean just, she got the ring on Monday.  They were gonna get married a couple weeks after her divorce was final.

As if Shawn's probably not heartbroken enough... she's gonna be buried with Dan's last name and Shawn's ring.

Re: Randomness

God, that sucks!  Why do people have to be that way?  When someone passes, you should honor their wishes, not do what suits yourself.

Re: Randomness

My car broke down today.

Everything was fine and all, then I went and try and start it and I only hear a click. Of course this happens right before payday and I'm flat broke. I'm thinking it's either one of 3 things. The battery, the starter relay or the starter itself.

Yesterday my car tried to warn me. When I started my car yesterday, it cranked really slow but it did start. So I cleaned off the battery posts when I got home and it cranked as normal.

I've already priced them. Around $20 for the starter relay, $75 for the battery and up to $140 for the starter itself. The first 2 things I can replace myself, but there is no way I could replace the starter here.

Tomorrow, I'm going to replace the relay and see if that fixes it. If not, then I'll replace the battery. If those don't fix it, then I'll have to take the car in and see what's wrong.

Re: Randomness

I just got back from Whinnie's first viewing.  I'm going again tomorrow, her funeral's on Saturday.  I sat in a circle with a bunch of Whinnie's friends all night, and we just told stories about how impossibly weird things would get anytime she was in the room.  I don't think I've laughed so hard for months.   That's the way Whinnie would have wanted it.

Shawn and Liam are both fine.   Shawn has a back brace, which I wouldn't have even known about if I didn't have my arms around his waist almost the entire time.   Liam has a tiny skull fracture, which we only found out about when we tickled him too hard and he banged his head against the wall because he was laughing so hard.

Re: Randomness

That's kind of the way my parents' funerals all were.  We brought photo albums and told stories.  Of course there were tears, but fellowship with all the other people who loved them really helped me a lot.  I so glad you got to spend time with Shawn and Liam and that they were not too badly injured.

Re: Randomness

I don't know if the areas where you other US residents live are having a gas problem since Ike, but here's an article about what we're dealing with in the Atlanta area and beyond...

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co … id=topnews

I had to wait in a long line this morning, after searching for a station that even had any gas last night and today.  It seems like about 9 out of 10 stations just simply have no gas.

Re: Randomness

Crazy!!

That's even worse than the 70's oil embargo. At least back then they had gas, all you had to do was go to several stations to get your car filled up.

Gas actually went down here to below $4 to $3.95.

With my car broken down, I'll save on gas this week. Replaced the starter relay, didn't fix it. So it's either the battery, which I'm going to get load tested asap, or it's the starter.

Good luck with your car, Illinois. And good luck with the gas, Deb. It's indeed crazy. Have prices gone up too?

Re: Randomness

Some stations are gouging.  Flat-out.  Some are staying with the national average.  I saw regular for $4.29 today at a station I couldn't get to because of where I was in the traffic lane.  But the place where I finally found gas was at $3.99, which is what it was right before the hurricane.

Tonight I love Youtube. I found some videos with The Dubliners from their performances in the 1970ies. This is great!

The gas shortage is crazy. I hope the problem is fixed really shortly because the way it is now is very inconvenient.

Two weeks and four days when they cut it back on.  And we have a well, so there hasn't been any running water either.  Woohoo.  Power.  Can cable be far behind?
