What types of movies do you really like/dislike?

I really like the following.
Action
Adventure
Comedy
Drama
Science-Fiction
Suspense/Thriller

All of the above are very good escapism type of movies, well except for dramas and perhaps thrillers.

I dislike the following
Mystery
Sports

I may watch a mystery once, but after the mystery is discovered I have no real need to watch the film again. Very low repeatability imo.

Sports. Always tends to follow the same storyline. Some person/team is on a losing streak, the coach gets the person/team to train, they get better, they get a big pep talk right before the final big game, looks like they are going to lose and then they do win the big final game/event.

That's why I don't own many of these. I think the only sport films I own are Days of Thunder (only reason is Cruise) and Field of Dreams (which I consider to be more about a son/father relationship).

Re: What types of movies do you really like/dislike?

I like pretty much all kinds of movies.  If any category leaves me a bit cold it's the big blow 'em up, heavy FX Action movies.  Translation: pretty much anything Michael Bey touches.

Also, in general, I'm not crazy about most of what passes for Romantic Comedy these days.  Translation: pretty much anything with Kate Hudson in it.

Also, I'm very particular about the kind of horror movies I'll subject myself to.  I like 'em cerebral.  And I cannot stand torture porn.  Translation: stop making freaking Saw movies already!

Drama is my favorite genre.  The more intense the better.  Translation:  make me cry, make me feel something and I'm yours.

I watch the movies I am interested in, no matter what genre. I dislike Horror, though and comedies that are too silly.

Re: What types of movies do you really like/dislike?

I like sports movies.  I know they're horribly cliche-ridden.  And I don't even like all sports.  But I'll watch almost any sports movie.  I was gonna talk abut this earlier, triggered by Illinois's dislike of them.  I understand why some don't enjoy them.  But they pull my strings.  I grew up with a sports dad, what can I say?  I love underdogs and the best sports movies are always about underdogs.  I watched the Marshall football team win a tight game today and then I just coincidentally caught We Are Marshall.  I've seen this movie a bunch of times.  I have it on DVD.  And not just because I love Matthew Fox, the former King Of Man Crying, and he bawls his eyeballs out in it.  It's stodgy and old-fashioned and loaded to the gills with cliches.  But it's real.  And a lot of passion went into it.  And it just hits all the right notes.  I cry every single time.

My favorite sports movie of all time is Bull Durham.  It's less about the Big Game than it is about the people.  Field Of Dreams is my second favorite for the same reason.  One of my all time favorite movies, period, is A League Of Their Own.  I was obsessed with it the year it came out.  I saw it ten times in various theaters.  Once in a drive-in.  I even brought my dog along.  LOL!  And I love Rudy.  We Are Marshall reminds me a lot of Rudy, actually.  You don't get much more underdog than these two movies.

I don't know what it is exactly, but I have many favorite sports movies.  The basketball movie, One On One from the 70's.  Heck the first two Rocky movies are terrific.  Bend It Like Beckham...  There are so many classics, too:  Ragin Bull, Slapshot, Brian's Song, The Longest Yard, The Bad News Bears.  I even get chills from movies like Major League and Mr. Baseball.  The Sandlot is wonderful.

It kills me that Chris had to drop out of Calvin Marshall.  Chris in a baseball movie would've been heaven for me.

I really like sports movies as well. Bull Durham is good and Susan Sarandon is amazing in it! The Sandlot is 1 of my favorite movies! I have the 2nd and 3rd Sandlot on DVD as well.
Have you ever seen Juwanna Mann, Deb??

Deb reminded me about Horror films.

I hate the modern horror films that relish in showing gore and blood-lust. I rather not see that. I tend to like the old horror films of the 1930's-1950's era.

Re: What types of movies do you really like/dislike?

I like the hero-movies most. There's usually much of my favorite stuff: action, comedy, romance and some drama.  And the hero to adore and drool over. wink Or a heroine to identify. :embarrassed:

In action and comedy I like it when things get physical. If there's a lot of bombs and gunfight I kind of fade out to my thoughts and get tired of watching. Single or a few explosions or gunshots can be good if it contributes the plotline. Senseless violence is a turn-off for me. And I love watching martial arts.

In comedies I like when there's physical comedy and jokes. It's always feels good to smile. But they too need a good plot line to keep me watching.

I tend to watch romance when there's lack of it in my own life. When my JTT is off on a trip or we're just having a dry spell. That's usually when I get the mood for some romance. Sometimes I don't  mind if it's an airheaded version of romance. A plotline seen millions of times before. As long as it's well played or there's some actor/actress I like a lot. If it's pretty boring I might just keep it on the background while doing somethig else in the same time. Ofcourse it's always better if there's more to the plotline than the usual. Not just kissing and making up.

In drama, I too like it when it makes me feel something. And again: the plotline is important.

Scifi, fantacy and adventure have always been close to my heart too. A little brake from the ordinary. big_smile

This pretty much sums up my taste in movies: everything within reason. And plotline, plotline, plotline! big_smile
