Re: Any electronic gadget nerds around?

Means you have 1 GB RAM and the graphics card takes some of it (shared memory), so Windows only has 895 MB to work with. Which, for Vista, is a joke. No wonder Cooper keeps crashing. I suggest you buy yourself some more RAM, and soon. You need to check what kind you need, though. Best take the laptop to the store and ask, there's different kinds and you also need to know how much Cooper can handle. Bosco, for instance, can only handle a maximum of 1 GB.

He's an Aldi laptop (Medion), right? Can you find out the MD number for me? Should be at the bottom of the laptop on a sticker somewhere.

Okay, I will keep that in mind, but I first have to buy a better laptop bag. The one who came with Cooper is crap.

Re: Any electronic gadget nerds around?

Oh crap.. I can't read one thread without wanting to post my own response.. :embarrassed:

Your wallpapers are great. Mine is dull. It's a picture of our summerplace. It's very important for JTT. That's where his roots are at. This is actually JTT's computer so I wouldn't dare to change it. He goes all alpha male over this thing! No, make that over all the damn gadgets in this house.. lol Sometimes I just wanna tell him "dude, I'm not a total idiot with these things." roll MEN! lol

I've been graving to have my own laptop for few years now and I'm sure I'll get one within a year or so. What kind of laptop would you recommend? I've been thinking about the Acers and HP's since they are most promoted here. Are they really any good? I plan to listen a lot of music with it and watch movies and write stories.. And ofcourse I want some drawing programme. That's propably going to take a lot of space in the hard drive, huh? Honestly, I'm no computer nerd. I know how to do stuff with it but I suck at most of the technical stuff. So I don't know all the parts and how to fix computers. So is there anything low-maintenance? big_smile

What should i call my lil' laptop then? You've already taken all the good (character-) names. What if I name it George... Ain't that Chris' middle name? wink

About cellphones. I'm looking for a new one. All my cells have been different models of Nokia. I wanna suport the domestic companies. big_smile And they are cool. Now I've got this sucky little thing that I already gave once to my daughter but i had to take it back because my new one broke pretty soon after I started using it. I liked it. But I really need something that's gonna survive my boys. They always get their hands on my phones no matter where I put the damn thing.

I don't really use the phone much. I hate talking in telephones. I just mostly write textmessages and receive important calls. I like listening to MP3's but all the freaking players get broken with me. I don't understand what I do to get them broken in few months... Maybe it's my boobs crushing them. lol :embarrassed: So maybe there should be an MP3 player in the phone... Our camera needs changing anyway so that's propably not essential for the phone. So, any ideas? i'm willing to give a try to something else but Nokia at this point...

Re: Any electronic gadget nerds around?

I generally don't recommend brands when it comes to laptops. What I usually look for in a computer is the performance and the sum of its parts, not the brand. These days I would recommend something with the following specs:

Dual or quad core Intel processor (2 GHz and up)
At least 2 GB RAM, preferably more
At least 15.4" screen with at least 1280 x 800 pixels
At least 250 GB hard drive
DVD writer
integrated Wireless LAN, card reader, maybe also Bluetooth

But that's fairly high-end, not sure if those specs are in the range of what you wanna spend.

Generally stick with brands that are well known and stay away from those that you never heard of before.

I would stay away from any electronics made in China. I once bought an ILO brand dvd recorder and after a year it just crapped out on me. I bought a Magnavox dvd recorder and after 2 years it works perfectly.

Re: Any electronic gadget nerds around?

This is our new TV.

http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/pi/2-10788 … oduct-Info

JTT ordered in from some webstore (after carefully checking the prices in all the stores here and the web) and drove about 130km south and back to get it and save a bit in the delivery fees (Smart move, huh? ). It was supposed to go to the livingroom but the way the boys have treated our TV lately, JTT didn't want to put the new one in the livingroom. So now it's in our bedroom. big_smile He plays his Xbox360 on it mostly. Sometimes movies. There's no TV-plug on that room so not actually watching TV there. But it's ok. I haven't got to test it yet but looks kinda huge. yikes:D Not as huge as the 60" or 52" ones in a store, though. That would be cool to watch movies on. big_smile
So in the livingroom it's still the old 28" widescreen JVC (not flat) and now our oldest TV (used to be the gameTV) was just put in our daughter's room with the Wii. That TV is 28" too but not widescreen, nor flat. It's a JVC too. No actual TV plugging in that room either but she'll have fun playing the games with her friends. My best friend's son; my daughter's (boy)friend Jimi (his middle name is Henrik; named after Jimi Henrix lol ) is sleeping over today and he loves games.

How many TV's do you own? With us, this is getting kinda redicilous... I thought it was a have-to- situation with the new one. I thoight there was something seriously wrong with the non-widescreen on. It is about 8 years old...

Re: Any electronic gadget nerds around?

I've got one, a 6 year old Sanyo.  I think it's 27".  I'm supposed to be getting newer 31" from my friend, Elaine, but we've had trouble arranging to meet to exchange it.  She lives up in Michigan.  So we'd have to drive to Louisville, KY to make the exchange.  We've met there a few times to hang out and go to Reds games in Cincinnati.  And it'd be cool because we could meet up with my best friend, Steph for lunch or dinner. She lives there.  We'll get it done one of these days. I don't have a TV in my living room right now, unless you count this tiny little TV/VCR combo that I just use as a monitor when I want to tape something off TV.  I live in my room.  It's where my computer is and I fell into the habit when I had a roommate.  And even though she's been gone for like 4 years, I'm just comfy in here.  It's my Batcave.

Re: Any electronic gadget nerds around?

Technically, I own two TVs. Only one is currently in operation, the one in the living room. It's a 26" CRT TV (4:3 aspect ratio). The other one is a tiny 14" one that I used to have as a teenager. It's currently gathering dust in the cellar.

Re: Any electronic gadget nerds around?

I didn't have my own TV when I was a teenager. Currently I am using that old stoneage thing I got from my brother's girlfriend.
