I've already found many good singers through this show that I've never heard of before. I'm sure many of those cds aren't even for sale here. I found Joan Osborne ofcourse. I originally thoughted 'one of us' was Alanis Morrisette's song.. witch one's is it really?
Damien Rice and Howie Day both had one really good song playing when Adam and Joan had big moments.
I'm sure there's more. Can you give me a tip?
Offline
One of Us is Joan Osbourne's song, as far as I know. Joan Osbourne sang it originally and sang it on the show, if that's what you mean. Alanis Morrisette might have done a cover of it, but it wasn't on the show.
Howie Day sang a song called Collide when A/J had their second kiss (on her porch). Don't know what the Damien Rich song is.
Offline
I think this was the song that was on the show few episodes before that second kiss.

I don't remember what scene it was anymore but it sounded so good I googled some words from it and found the lyrics and songname and artist.
Hey who was it that linked jamendo.com on one of these boards? I just signed in as CappuGirl. Feel free to add me as friend if you're in there too. I'm having lots of fun listening the music there. Lots of talented people!

The Damian Rice song is called Older Chests, I think.

Jamendo was me. One great Adam moment had the Beatles cover "Across the Universe" by Fiona Apple. It was used three times in different episodes, I believe. I have a whole JoA soundtrack at home, but it's been a long time since I've listened to it. There are quite a few songs that I grew to love. I can post a track list for you later. That list of music is amazing. I can't believe someone found all the songs. I'll have lots of fun looking for them!

Hey cool, I found some of the songs with Facebooks music-player

So I was watching some episodes of JoA on SciFi the other day and noticed some of the music was different from the music on the DVDs. I mostly noticed because I am a huge Matt Nathanson fan, and caught the end of Bringeth It On that featured I Saw. I didn't remember hearing it when I watched the first season on DVD, and I went back to check because I definitely would have noticed if I heard the song the first time around. Turns out I wasn't crazy, so that's good I didn't check the Double Dutch episode, but I don't remember hearing Bent on the DVD version.
I know that sometimes there are issues with obtaining rights to music for TV shows on DVD, but I can't imagine it would be too difficult or expensive for an artist like Matt who is relatively unknown. Sorry, but I was just curious. Does anyone know of any other instances where songs were switched out for the DVD?
Offline
Yes, a lot of the music on the DVDs is different from the one used in the TV episodes. I would have to dig deeper to tell you which songs were exchanged, but I do know that some JoA music changes were really annoying. I'm sure we have enough avid fans here who can recall specific songs. The only ones coming to my mind are the Beck song at the end of 1x17 (which I didn't like, to be honest) and also "Celebration" in episode 2x02 and at least one Avril Lavigne song.
I prefer watching the TV episodes because the music in them is a lot better. And, yes, this was all due to licensing reasons, in other words: $$$.

They also replaced Peter Gabriel's Shaking The Tree at the end of The Cat (2X04). That really pissed me off. But I think the song they replaced Celebration with is the WORST one. It's just some awful no-name 80's light R&B thing. Ack!
But we really have to note that the song they replaced Beck with in 1X17 is one of the best songs ever used in the series. I love it so much I named a VERY important Butterflies chapter after it, Everything... Always.

Who sang that one?
I have found some of my favorite songs and artists from TV shows. Some music supervisors just know how to consistently nail it, and I love that.

I have no idea who sang that song or where to find it. Has anyone ever figured out where it came from?

Wow, TeeJay! :D;) That's the most comprehensive list I've ever seen. Thanks so much!
I remember they replaced a song when Joan, Luke, and Grace were flying that kite. But I didn't mind that one, much. The song they replaced it with was nice, too. And I loved "Everything, Always" by the no-name band, and don't care much for Beck at all.
Offline
I really wish they would've gotten all of the music rights for the original songs for the dvd's.
Offline
The replacement for Celebration didn't bother me all that much. Probably because I'm not much of a fan of the actual song in the first place.
I was pretty surprised though by how much I missed "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" at the end of "Independence Day". It worked so much better for that scene, I thought. Something I never realized until it wasn't there.

Okie dokes, what was the gorgeous song (sung by a guy) when the sad Scoobies gather at Jane's house after the death of Judith ?

great list....but I don't see the DVD replacements do I???
I was in touch with two guys who did the music for Joan of Arcadia...including the music director John Mccullough. also Johnathan Grossman who did the riffs on the show. John said no list of songs (off the dvds) is still around, too bad. He said he thought the reggae song the ended that great episode The Cat was Land of Life by Jordan Lind or Lindsey. I struck out on ALL searching on that.that's the song the apparently replaced the Peter Gabriel song for the dvds.
