Cool, Laura.  Who'd you name him after?

Whinnie told me if I got another computer it would be named Leroy.  I was thinking about buying a new one for about a month before she died, she said the only thing I could possibly name him is Leroy.  I don't know why, that's just the way it was.  I thought about naming it Whinnie, but it's not a girl.

Re: Randomness

My first PC was way back in 1997 or so. Had a 2 GB hard drive. Still have it, but it's now in storage.

The computer I'm using I got from a neighbor who threw it away. The back says it was made in 1998. A friend put in a 20 GB hard drive and the high speed internet card. I've had this one for over 2 years no and it works very well.

It does what I need it to do, surf the net.

But I am looking to buy a new computer before the end of the year. Something with a dvd burner and a much larger hard drive. I would really like to have one with the lightscribe dvd drive. Hopefully they'll have some good sales on computer bundles this Christmas.

Re: Randomness

Uh.. I've got the damn flu. My throat is killing me... So I cooked chicken soup for dinner. We don't usually eat that a lot and it's not a known flu-food like it seems to be in the US. I didn't even had a recipe, I just through some stuff together. lol It turned out pretty good. tongue

I've had the flu before. Last winter I was like 2 weeks sick, two weeks healthy, again two weeks sick.. and so on. Anoying. My throat has never felt as bad as it does now. And I'm pretty tired. But my other symptoms are pretty much in minimum so I quess I shouldn't be whining. JTT is sick too. He slept most of the day. Now he's playing online with his xbox360. He had a huge headache earlier and he's got a serious case of slime and stuff.. So no kisses today. It's a shame. He's so good at it. wink

i'm really worried about my little girl. Her voice sounds like her throat is bad too. She's a little warm. She's usually the healthiest person in this family so I always tend to worry a lot when she too is sick..
The boys are not sick. They see that I am and they use it against me. The're climbing the walls, fighting and beeing naughty. They always do that when they see I'm not feeling good and don't have the energy. Joys of parenthood..;)

Re: Randomness

Hope you feel better soon, Maria. It always sucks to be sick. I'm not sick that often (luckily). I had a really bad flu a few months ago, and I had forgotten how much it sucked to have a sore throat and a runny nose. And, uh, I'm having an upper GI (gastroscopy) on Monday, which I'm not looking forward to. Nothing serious, they just wanna check where my stomach trouble is coming from.

I'm not much of a cook, but I love baking and making desserts. Very much a sweet tooth.

I've got this thing. I get this weird compulsion for baking 3-4 times a year and it lasts like 2-4 weeks. I bake someting almost everyday. It feels somehow therapeutic. And I too have a sweet tooth. :embarrassed::drool: I was just about have another one of these baking spells when I got sick. I was gonna bake apple pies this week end. Now that I can't make one, i have a huge lust for them! lol

Re: Randomness

Luckily, I'm also not sick that often. (Well, besides my syndrome of course, but that doesn't really count for me.) But a few months ago I had the flu too. Not that bad though, had to miss only two days from work (not that I minded that! LOL).

I can't really cook, but I got into baking some time ago and I'm trying to do that quite often now. It's so much fun. I love baking muffins. big_smile

Re: Randomness

Something totally unrelated but possibly important to some of us. On Oct 26 Central Europe has their daylight saving time change. The US changes on Nov 2, so there will be one week where EST and CET are 5 hours apart instead of 6.

What do you cook? Do you have favorite? tongue

From my own cooking my favorites are some soups. Especially the ones where I put a little of this certain cheese in.

Thanks, I hope no-one else gets sick. I'm a little better today. I've never before done this much self-medicating! :silly:

I cook all kinds of stuff.  I have a special spice rub that I use to marinate meats.  I love watching The Food Network and discovering new things to try.

Re: Randomness

I bought my very first SLR camera in September this year. And I love trying new things with it, but I'm not more than an amateur photographer. It's so much more complex to work with an SLR camera. Maybe something of a compromise between an SLR and a compact camera would be the thing for you. I've heard a lot of good things about the Panasonic Lumix cameras. Not sure what models are the best, but the FZ models look great. Of course they're also kinda expensive. I myself am a big fan of Canon, but most of it is personal preference. There are a lot of really good digital cameras out there that are all similar in price and performance.

Care to share some of your photography samples? smile

Re: Randomness

Gee, I wish I could share some of my photos I've taken over the years. But I can't since I have a crappy computer and no way of inputting it into the computer.

In the past I've gone to car shows, air shows and some scenic spots such as Graue Mill in Oakbrook, Little Red Schoolhouse and wildlife in forest preserves.

Hopefully sometime soon I can get a better computer and upload some of my pics.

Some tips I've learned over the years is when taking pics of animals is to get down to their level. When taking pics of objects such as cars, planes or buildings is to take it at an angle to give it a 3-D effect - if taken straight on the subject has no depth and just looks flat. Composition is also very important, I always try and carefully frame it to at least balance the photo.

I'm really looking to get a digital camera once I get a new computer.
