When my current TV breaks.

3. Regarding Widescreen ratio films and buying them on dvd.
a) You always buy the Widescreen version
In fact, I'm not sure if they even sell both versions here. If you want your movies in full screen (4:3), you probably have to ask for them especially. I don't even check DVDs for that when I buy them in the store because they're always widescreen. (Or maybe I've just been lucky and never picked the wrong one.)

4. Which films/ TV Series do you wish was released on DVD?
Early Edition - seasons 2 to 4

5. How many dvds do you currently own?
Approximately 80 plus several TV show DVD box sets. (If you count burned ones, then maybe twice as many.)

6. How many dvds have you recorded at home?
What do you mean? Recorded off the TV and off VHS? Not a lot. Less than 10.

7. How many different video formats have you owned? And how many of each?
Here are the video formats that I'm aware of.
VHS and DVD. That's it. I still have way too many VHS tapes. Probably more than 100. DVDs we've already covered.

I don't know. Maybe when the current one breaks or when I have enough money for a new one.

3. Regarding Widescreen ratio films and buying them on dvd.
a) You always buy the Widescreen version (but I don't really check)

4. Which films/ TV Series do you wish was released on DVD?
Judging Amy

5. How many dvds do you currently own?
Around 20, I think. My collection is still small, but growing.

6. How many dvds have you recorded at home?
None, I guess.

7. How many different video formats have you owned? And how many of each?
I'm not familiar with video formats. I used to have a VCR and nowadays I have a DVD player (well, not yet, still using my laptop)

Adding another question.

When did you buy your first dvd player?
For me 1997, when they first came out in the five test markets in early 1997.

Good question. You know, I don't even remember. I already had it in 2000, so probably around 1999.

Re: Video/ TV Poll

Most of your techie questions are out of my realm, Illinois.  But I can answer this one.  I bought my first DVD player when The Sixth Sense came out, just so I could buy that movie.  No joke.

Re: Video/ TV Poll

I haven't bought a DVD player yet, but I'm planning to. I only remember that my parents got theirs when their really old VCR broke. I don't remember the exact date. Maybe 2002 or so. They threw out all their VHS's and started buying DVDs. And didn't stop. LOL

Re: Video/ TV Poll

My first DVD player was a no-name model. I bought it off eBay because I wanted one that came with how-to-make-codefree instructions. Now I actually have a DVD player (codefree) and a DVD recorder (not codefree). Both are Medion products. I also still have my "old" Panasonic VCR.

This is my DVD recorder:

My DVD player is similar to this one (though mine's black):

Re: Video/ TV Poll

We are still using the first one. big_smile JTT bought it 2003. It's amazingly good piece of technology. It has never been broken. big_smile It's Sharp 1 bit technology (home cinema with dvd) model SD-At100H. It plays pretty much anything but avi. I love it. big_smile I found a picture:

Here's a treat for you lovely geeks:
http://sharp-world.com/products/1-bit/s … index.html

I didn't really buy a lot of dvd or vhs before 2003...

ps. TeeJay. I found the manual. It doesn't play region 1 and can't be changed.

That's too bad. I guess you're stuck with watching RC-1 DVDs on your computer or not buying them at all. Or buying a new DVD player. tongue

Bragging is totally fine. I can totally top your TFT screen. I have a 24" HP one:

It's BIIIIG! And I love it. Though I still watch all of my video file TV shows and movies on my TV with the help of my laptop (which is connected to my TV and Hi-Fi stereo).

Re: Video/ TV Poll

I got my first dvd player because I couldn't find Run Lola Run on video, only on DVD, so whenever that was.

I have standard size tv, and I only buy letterbox dvds

I have hundreds on dvds (itt could even be a thousand, I have no idea how many because I keep getting them sent to me).

African Queen is probably at the top of my list but there are a few TV series I would like to see for personal reasons: Legend, the Middleman

Re: Video/ TV Poll

Damn.. I should have knocked on wood or something after telling you how great that dvd player is and it's never been broken.... It really doesn't like the new Shark-dvd. I just tried to put it on for the kids and it totally froze. It shows the menus but when I pressed play, it just showed the Dolby surround-add and then just blank. Black screen. And now the whole player is frozen. It won't even open the dvd-case or go off. Only three buttons that do work are the volume-buttons and the radio-button. What the heck happenned? I guess JTT is gonna have a lot fun tonight trying to fix it. He can fix pretty much anything. big_smile But do you guys have any hints what it might be?

Re: Video/ TV Poll

Don't know, but I found this online that may help you at least get the drawer open.

Step1
Turn off your DVD player. You do not want to risk electrical shock while working with it.
Step2
Locate your DVD player's manual Eject button. It is usually a small hole located underneath the DVD drawer.
Step3
Insert a stiff wire—such as a paperclip or safety pin—into the hole. Push gently and the drawer should open partway. Gently pull the drawer the rest of the way open.
Step4
Remove the DVD and see if there is a problem with it. Most DVD player drawers get stuck when a DVD is warped or the label is starting to peel. If the DVD is warped, discard it. If the label is peeling, remove the label.
Step5
Turn your DVD player back on. If it gets stuck again on a different DVD, then the problem may be with your DVD player rather than with your DVDs.

http://www.ehow.com/how_2036594_fix-dvd-player.html

The hole could also be underneath the player on some players.

Also I would do more than just turn it off, I would also disconnect the power cord to be safe.

Re: Video/ TV Poll

Nice instructions, Illinois. Nice to know, even when I already got the DVD out. (edit, there's no such hole or button under our player. I'll check the back panel later. Maybe it's there. Or JTT will check. I'm afraid to touch it anymore. Maybe I'll make it worse. lol )
That player seems to have grown a personality now. I tried to turn the whole machine off again and it did. But it opened the drawer while doing it. And when I turn the player on, it closes again. But when I turned it off again, it opened again. So there it is; staring at me with it's mouth open. Should I call the exorcist?

*********************************************************************
********************************************************************

EDIT. This doesn't really belong in this thread so I'll just add here.

The problem was about the DVD. It messed up the whole player. But after running a lens cleener it worked right again with the other DVD's. Oh shoot, I've gotta play the role of a nagging customer today when I'll go ask if I could change the DVD...

Re: Video/ TV Poll

1. What aspect ratio TV do you currently own?
a) Standard size tv. In other words the old squarish tv.
(It might be an HD TV, but I can't see anything on the unit itself that suggests so.  It is however a flat screen)

2. If you don't own a HDTV or Widescreen HDTV, when do you plan on buying one.
e) Don't plan to.
(I'm happy with what I have now.  When it breaks I suppose I might get an HD.  By then likely that will be all there is anyway)

3. Regarding Widescreen ratio films and buying them on dvd.
c) You don't care which version it is.
(I do however prefer full screen, otherwise the picture is small)

4. Which films/ TV Series do you wish was released on DVD?
(The third, fourth, fifth and sixth seasons of Foster's.  I'd also like to see the rest of the "Malcolm in the Middle" series {so far, the first season is all that's out}   :clueless:)

5. How many dvds do you currently own?
(I have no idea, although not as many as most.  Maybe 80.  I doubt more than 100 though)

6. How many dvds have you recorded at home?
(I don't have my own DVD Recorder, I still record on VHS and my DVR.  I've used my parents' DVD Recorder to record two DVDs, I think)

7. How many different video formats have you owned? And how many of each?
Here are the video formats that I'm aware of.
VHS
DVD
HD-DVD
(I might have a beta or two, but I'm not sure what format they are)

8. When did you buy your first DVD player?
(I think it was in '03.  Before that, I just had my VCR.  I still have my VCR, and still have many VHS tapes.  I'll phase them out eventually as my DVD collection builds)

I'm sorry to hear that. My last DVD player broke like 2 weeks ago and I had to buy a new one. But a few days after that another DVD player broke in my house and my parents bought a new one.

I'm thinking about getting this DVD-Player soon:

It's cheap and you can make it codefree. Sorry it's the German link, but Google won't give me any English links for it. roll
