SAG Vote -- What Does It Mean?
19 September 2008 10:36 AM, PDTIn a surprise -- and somewhat confusing -- result, members of a dissident group of the Screen Actors Guild won a bare majority of the 11 seats up for reelection on the union's national board. Members of the Unite for Strength faction took five board seats and Membership First candidates also took five; an independent candidate, Morgan Fairchild, who has been critical of the Membership First leadership and was endorsed by Unite for Strength, also was elected to the board. Nevertheless, the election did not appear to represent any overwhelming mandate for a settlement of the current labor dispute with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. The Unite for Strength group had championed a merger with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists but had refrained from criticizing the demands of the union negotiators. And while clearly some SAG members voted for Ufs candidates because they believed the current stalemate was costing actors more than they could ever hope to gain from the union's demands for new media productions, others apparently split their votes between Ufs and Mf candidates. The vote did appear to suggest, however, that SAG's leadership would be unable to secure a strike authorization from the required 75 percent of the membership, leaving it with little leverage in talks with the AMPTP and raising the possibility of a stalemate that could extend into next year.

I still can't fully understand why Zac Efron is as popular as he is.
I guess he's big with all the pre-teen/ teenage girls since that High School Musical 3 movie made over 40 million this past weekend. When was there the first 2?
Perhaps if I had children, especially girls, I would have to put up with buying these things on dvd. Gee, I would just be embarrassed buying any of the HS Musical films on dvd.

You know what's worse, Illinois? Having to see the trailer for High School Musical 3 on the big screen. Twice. I had no choice but to look at Mr. Emo's metrosexual mug that was emitting singing sounds. <shivers> Ugh. Hope I haven't offended anyone, I guess I'm a little too old for Mr. Efron and the likes.
Maybe one reason why it made so much money is that it's not just the kids paying for tickets, but also the parents who the kids drag with them to the theater?

Me too, and I am actually happy about that. LOL
What pisses me off right now is that the only theatre near me that plays movies in their original language is going to show that movie every day for the next couple of weeks and the movies I am interested in don't play there at all. There is a small chance that the movie I want to see soon will still come but I don't put my hopes up very high right now. Guess I have to wait for the DVD again.

It's bad enough that they're remaking Footloose. Why does it have to be THAT guy? In 20 years, will we be playing Six Degrees Of Zac Efron instead of Kevin Bacon?

I just checked our local theater schedule for this week's new movies, and guess what's showing this week. High School Musical 3. :puke: The one-sentence synopsis said that it's the first time HSM is coming to theaters. So the first two were what? TV movies? At least that explains why none of us was aware of them before... Not that I find that terribly interesting.
On another note, anyone know if John Cusack's movie "Grace Is Gone" is any good? It's one of the movies showing in OV this week.

HSM 1 & 2 aired on The Disney Channel.
I have the DVD of Grace Is Gone but I haven't watched it yet. Just haven't been in the mood for such heavy subject matter lately. The reviews were pretty good.

The movie looks interesting. But it's not on the Coming soon schedule for my theatre, so I guess I won't see it. I'm still hoping for Nights in Rodanthe.

Take tissues! You know what's kinda ironic? The book in German is called "Das Lächeln der Sterne", which translates to "The Smile of the Stars". Of course they called the movie that too in Germany, which makes absolutely no sense because nowhere in the movie do stars play any role or are stars mentioned in any conversation.
Btw, Deb, did you know Rodanthe is in the Outer Banks up in North Carolina. It looks absolutely stunning. I'd love to go there someday.
Maybe I'll watch Grace is Gone this weekend, depending on whether I'm in the mood or not.

I know that. They always give the books such cheesy titles too. But I am not going to watch the dubbed version, I just think that I might have to wait for the DVD because the fact that it's on the coming soon schedule doesn't mean they really bring that movie in English.

Huh? cdwow sells Spiral on a Region 4 DVD. That's kinda weird. Why don't they have Region 1?
But well, I can't buy it anyway. They only accept credit cards or paypal.

Are you talking about Spiral with Amber Tamblyn made in 2007?
According to amazon.com it has been released in Region 1.
http://www.amazon.com/Spiral-Amber-Tamb … 697&sr=1-1
$16.49
I believe they accept checks by mail.

I know it was released in Region 1, too. I was just wondering why cdwow is selling a region 4 DVD. Well, regions don't really matter to me, but I just thought it was strange. That's just me. LOL And I can't even buy it from there because they don't seem to accept money transfer anymore. Which sucks.

So the Bones ep tonight was not "ours", but a new character is introduced next week. Booth's brother. Played by Brendan Fehr, of all people. With almost no hair. He's still cute though. That one is not our ep either.

Oh, so glad Brandan is on TV again. Though I don't think I'll start watching Bones because of him. Might be a different story for my other favorite Roswell guy, Jason Behr.

The funny thing is you would absolutely love Bones if you watched it. It's dark and funny and all sciencey. There are some fun 'ships on it. And it's Hart Hanson's show.

This might be fake, but it also might be what Johnny Depp will look like as Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland. Kinda spooky...
