Re: Randomness

So went out to Meijer to do some grocery shopping. Gee it was packed. Quite a few had these Sylvania HDTVs in their carts. Sale was $378 each.

Anyways, bought some pop, crescent rolls, these chocolate twist things from Pillsbury, an $11 Shank portion ham and some other stuff.

Stopped at Burger King and used two coupons. One was for 2 Whoppers & 2 fries for $5.29 and the other was for 2 Double Croscaint Sandwhiches for $3.00. So that should have been $8.29. I also bought two of the Simpsons toys they have for $.99 each. So it should have been $10.27 plus tax. Somehow the cashier screwed up and the total including tax was $7.04.
So saved over $3.00.

Then stopped to fill up my car. Prices per gallon all the way down to $1.71 a gallon. So it cost me only $9.00 to fill it up.

Re: Randomness

You most be pretty good looking guy, Illinois. You are obviously dazzling those poor cashiers when they all keep making those mistakes with your purchases! wink

I hate it how cheap you get your gas.. It's been around 2euros per liter here for a long time.. so.. I'm too tired to count it down to gallons and dollars but I read an article a while back that we have just about the most expensive gas in all of World.. roll Huge taxes on it so people would get more invoromental or whatnot..

I too saved some money yesterday. I was buying some traintickets for me and my daughter. As singles they would have cost nearly 70 euros but we got a family ticket so it ended up less that 50. big_smile I was pretty shocked by the price. I'll never get used to how much it costs to travel by train now (too). It isn't even a long trip and it costs the same as if I flew to Helsinki... Even flying can be cheaper now if one buys the ticket at an appropreate time. One time JTT flew to Helsinki (about 600-700 km) and it cost only 20 euros.

Re: Randomness

2 EUR per liter is indeed expensive! It went up to almost 1.50 EUR here in the summer, but prices have gone down again recently. Now we're at around 1.20 EUR per liter. I think a gallon is just under 4 liters, so 2 EUR per liter would translate to something like $11 or $12 per gallon of gas.

Re: Randomness

I added you too, Maria. I hope that was ok. I used to blog a lot in my LJ, but after we got back from LA I neglected it a little bit. Yesterday I updated a little and had finally some time to post something about our trip. Yeah, it took me almost two months, but like I said, I was too busy with other things. But I'll update more frequently again now. Or at least try it. I still have a lot to say about our trip.

In other news, my life has been hell this week and it's not getting better. Can I undo November, please? :crying:

Re: Randomness

When we left for LA, gas here was over $4 a gallon --- IF you could find a station that actually had gas.  Because of the hurricane that hit the Gulf Coast, we had no gas in Georgia for weeks on end.  You had to sit in long lines and wait and then you could only buy a certain amount.  As of right now, gas is $1.68 at the station down the street from me.  I never, ever thought we'd see prices fall to this level again.  And I certainly don't expect it to last.

Re: Randomness

I'm so excited about our trip my heart feels like a humming bird. big_smile And why...? Well, I finally get to sleep in for two whole mornings without fearing that the boys will trash the house while I'm at it. I am pretty tired. So little sleep this week.. And I had a hideous two days with the kids when JTT was off town. I almost feel sorry for him leaving him alone with the boys. Or not. I know he'll spend a lot of time at his mom's place. And he'll have lots of help at home too. I'll text the 11 year old neighbour about the situation in case she wants to come play 'mommy' with the boys. lol Oh dang, I'm hovering... Maybe I should just let him do things his way. I'm driving him nuts.

But yay, few more hours and I'm in a buss. And then a train. In these few hours I've still got some packing to do and pizza to make and I need to get some groceries too. And diapers. My oversized babies refuse to use the potty even when they know how to use it. Such strong persnalities...I'll miss them like crazy but I'll also enjoy the free weekend. It's been four years since I last spent a whole two days away from the boys...

Re: Randomness

Among other things, our cafeteria offered turkey, mashed sweet potatoes and apple sauce yesterday with a brownie for dessert. Of course I had to try it, and it was pretty good. I didn't have any dinner because I was rushing through the stores last night, trying to buy x-mas presents for my parents (with success). But then, of course, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Germany, so it was a pretty normal day for me.

I hope everyone had a great and yummy Thanksgiving, though.

Re: Randomness

I stayed home and made myself the biggest breakfast ever.  My friends that I've been celebrating with for the last few years broke up in January of this year, officially.  Kim went to Florida to see her mom for the holiday.  And I don't know what Casey did.  I guess I could've gone up to my cousins' place like I used to do with my mom before she passed away, but there's always too many people up there and I don't know most of them, so that's a little uncomfortable for me.  And by too many people, I mean between 50 to 70.  Sitting on the floor in a jam-packed living room, eating from a paper plate, while a bunch of little kids run around screaming is not my idea of a good time.

I had a very nice, lazy day.  I read a lot.

Oh joy.

The first Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for this (Sunday Night) evening. 1 to 3 inches today and another 1 to 3 inches Sunday night into Monday morning.

Then it's going to only be in near 30 to mid 30's for the rest of the week.

Re: Randomness

Hey guys, I'm back. (Did you miss me at all? LOL)
My weekend was full of work, because not only I had to show up at work on Saturday morning (7.30am to 12pm, my bosses are crazy ...), I also totally forgot about that crafts class my mom had booked for us which was also this weekend. We learned how to do mosaique techniques (Spelling?), that was kinda cool. I did a really nice mirror frame, I'll show you pictures soon.
Otherwise, as I posted in the Twilight Thread, I was busy reading. I didn't even go online this weekend. LOL Well, exept now, but I'm going to keep this visit short because I NEED to continue reading. wink

I kept getting my hours cut.  One week I didn't work at all, the next week I only had three hours.  I asked my boss if I'd get more hours soon, she told me not until the weather got better so I quit.

Re: Randomness

Hey, I'm ba-ack! big_smile Too. Anne beat me to it. lol I wasn't planning on going online tonight but how 'bout it; here I am. I had some whitdrawls.. I actually took a peak at here saturday too on my friend's laptop. I missed ya! big_smile

I had a very nice weekend. Lots of fun and I don't think I've ever talked that much. I'm beat! So when I got back home it was saunatime for the whole family and seemed like JTT and the boys had a nice weekend too. And as if I hadn't already eaten a whole lot of pizza this weekend (home-made friday for lunch and my friend baked some for dinner and she baked so many, that we ate them today too) I made myself some kinda-healthy pizzabreds for a evening snack. It was yummy. And am I nuts for making some of those tomorrow for lunch too? We still have some pizza-ham left and I don't want it to spoil... :embarrassed:

So.. What have you all been up to? Whuhuu! Way to quit your job! big_smile You most be really brave. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. big_smile I wish I would get a job too. roll

Hey, the thing I was thinking about when I decided to post tonight.. It was such a Adam&Joan moment I have to share. JTT missed me like nuts, he's been all over me ever since we got back home. roll big_smile So I asked him, what does he think about my face. He rolled his eyes and didn't get the question. I asked again: do you think something's different about my eyes? Once again, he had no clue what so ever. So it was my turn to roll my eyes and I started to laugh like a crazy person for the J&A-relevance. JTT looked really long and still didn't get it. He asked me what's different? And I had to answer: "Well, half of my eyebrows are gone and my eyelashes are dyed!" (My friend had lots of fun working on my eyebrows and lashes. I finally gave in, she's been asking to do it for 12 years!) JTT's answer: "I really don't look at your eyes that much" lol Men! Then I got a little offended by that but of course I wasn't really believeable when I was trying to hold back a laughter. Then he tried to fix it by saying something like he didn't mean it as a bad thing, he really just sees me. Didn't Adam say something like that in that one episode with make-up and stuff?

Re: Randomness

LOL. Nice JoA story. Yeah, it's almost exactly like Vanity, Thy Name Is Human.

Is this what you're looking for?

Adam - Yeah... but you have to learn the visual language of film if you wanna--

Joan - how--how can you be so observant when it comes to some movie made during the civil war, but when it comes to me, I could grow a mustache, and you wouldn't notice?

Adam - Did I miss something?

Joan - I've been wearing the same clothes for 2 days! I haven't washed my hair! My--my face is so... unadorned, I could be killed by the Aztecs!

Adam - It's cool with me.

Joan - Um... so the rank, stinky, slob thing, that's a turn-on for you?

Adam - If it's who you are.

Joan - And how about before? In the last couple days, I've been wearing so much makeup and hairspray, I looked like a TV evangelist! Does that work for you, too?

Adam - Appearances are superficial, Jane.

She looks hurt.

Joan - So it's about inner beauty. That's what matters?

Adam - Yeah.

Joan - (She is yelling at him with a mix of yelling and crying) How about going to the mall? That matters to you, and that's all about appearances!

Adam - That's different. That's--

Joan - (More Yelling and Crying) no, it isn't! No! You are so vain!

Adam - (getting defensive) M--right. Look at me.

Joan - Yeah, exactly! You try so hard to look like you don't care, just--(Joan has had a revelation of the mind) just like I was trying to do, but you do! You do care! Ohh, you--you wanna be that arty guy who thinks he's so above the mall. Well, I like the mall, ok?!

Adam - Ok, you like the mall!

Joan - Yeah, you know what else I like, too? I like watching Laverne & Shirley on TV Land! That's right!

Adam - Laverne & Shirley?

Joan - Yeah! Lenny and Squiggy! "Hello?!" I loved it, and I was afraid to tell you that because I thought you would think I was some bubblehead and you wouldn't wanna hang out with me anymore, and you know what? Maybe you don't! I can't stand... us pretending like this. Both of us trying to live up to some image of what we think we should be! Well, if that's what we are... then I don't like us!

And I'm glad you're back. We missed you too. smile
