Re: Misc Stuff

That's freaky. I didn't know Tim Burton is making his own version of Alice In Wonderland. I can't wait to see it.

Awwwww...

Very nice article about Halye Joel Osment making his Broadway debut.  I didn't know he was doing this.  You go, Haley!

Yes!  Many people took this as evidence that there is a God after all.

What's really funny is speculation about how her jaw got broken in the first place.  Someone finally gave her her due and punched her in the face?  She took in something a 'lil too big?  Her Adamsapple-ectomy went wildly wrong?  Too many times sticking her foot in her mouth?  Inquiring minds wanna know.  :waiting:

Tonight I met with my friend Katharina and we went to see Nights in Rodanthe.
Uhm, well ... it's definitely not the best movie I've ever seen, but it was nice. Had some problems to understand that old guy whose wife died during Richard Gere's last operation, but apart from that I could understand very well. Mae Whitman was great. I told Katharina that we met her, too.
We were only four people in the theater and learned that the movie wasn't a big hit here, they're going to play it only this week and a woman told us that when she tried to see the German version, the theatre didn't have it anymore.

Re: Misc Stuff

Just watched PS I Love You.  It's very manipulative and predictable, but entertaining.  Awesome cast.  Made me laugh and cry.  Of course it kinda contains my two pet peeves, an almost supernatural bent and women doing a pratfall.  Oh well, as Ebert would say, they're semi-obligatory for the genre.  If you want a sweet tear-jerker with cute boys, check it out.

Re: Misc Stuff

Well, first of all, I read the book. Then I saw the trailer and the movie poster and hated it. And when the movie was out, I read some reviews and they confirmed my dark premonitions about the movie. Plus the Holly of my imagination while I read the book did not look like Hilary Swank at all. I know she's a great actress and she does a wonderful job in Million Dollar Baby, but she was the wrong choice for that movie. And this is why I'll never watch it.

Re: Misc Stuff

Did they change a bunch of stuff or something?  Or is it just casting?

Re: Misc Stuff

I haven't seen the whole movie, but I saw the first 15 minutes of it. They changed a lot of the story in comparison to the book. In the book, Holly is an Irish woman, living in Ireland. In the movie, Holly is an American woman, married to an Irish guy, living in the US. In the book at some point, Holly is going on vacation to some place I don't remember exactly, but I think it was a Spanish island (like Ibiza or something like that). In the movie, she's going on vacation to Ireland.

Since I haven't seen the whole movie, I'm not sure if it makes sense, playing it like that, but I don't see why they couldn't have kept it like it was in the book, with the story being set in Ireland. Did they think it wouldn't appeal to Americans? To me it just doesn't make sense to change it.

I also agree about the casting. Holly wasn't cast perfectly, but what really bothered me much more was the casting of her husband (and the way they introduced him into the movie). I don't even remember the name now, I think it was Jerry or Gerry. I'm sure Anne will correct me.

I loved the book too, and I gave the movie a try. Obviously I didn't get past the first 15 minutes before I got bored and switched it off...
