Re: Misc Stuff

Oh well.  Just not for you guys, I guess.  I enjoyed it and I can't say I have any desire to read the book, so I guess I'm safe.

I never had the chance to see Nights In Rodanthe in theaters. It looks good. Has anyone seen it?

Re: Misc Stuff

Nights In Rodanthe was a major tear jerker. wink I liked it, but it's no masterpiece. I'd say it's a typical Nicholas Sparks novel turned into film. I haven't read the book, so I don't know how true the movie is to it. I think they left out some of the surrounding storyline and only showed the story that in the book was being told to someone. Diane Lane and Richard Gere were really well cast, I enjoyed the movie a lot. The landscape (Outer Banks) is gorgeous. Made me wanna go there one day.

I saw it just two days ago, that's why I posted about it here. wink

Tina, what's a major tear jerker? Never heard that, sorry.  But yeah, it's not a masterpiece, I know. I think so, too. It's a nice little movie and it was enjoyable. It just sucked a little that I wasn't able to understand so well, but I could handle.

She's the reason I wanted to see it as well. She has a pretty big part in the movie. She plays Reese Witherspoon's characters mom.

Re: Misc Stuff

No, I've never seen that.  I've only caught that show a few times.  I really don't like Larry David, but I love Cheryl Hines, so if I'm in a good mood, I can watch it.

Re: Misc Stuff

This is really interesting.  Jonathan Handel, the guy who's been covering the possibility of a SAG strike online hosted a conference call today to talk about what's really going on.  And the public can listen to it in replay starting on Christmas Day...

I'm really interested in what they had to say.

Re: Misc Stuff

Anyone heard about The Reader? I just looked at the trailer over on apple.com. Even though it's another Weinstein movie, it looks really interesting. There's also a lot of German actors in it. I've seen the one playing the male lead (the young version of Ralph Fiennes) in a German fantasy movie (named Krabat) just about a month ago. He was great. Looks like it's coming to German screens on Feb 26.

Re: Misc Stuff

I read "The Reader" about 10 years ago.  I read an English translation, rather.  When I saw the movie was coming out I wondered if either of you had read the book, since it was written in German originally.

I'm glad they cast a younger actor for the earlier scenes, since Winslet's character is supposed to be much older than Fiennes'.

Re: Misc Stuff

I haven't read the German novel, no. To be honest, I didn't know this was based on that novel, I had not heard of it before today. I might just look into now, though. From the trailer, I'd say that Winslet looks like she's in her mid or late 20's and the young "Fiennes" looks like he's 16. Would that fit?

Re: Misc Stuff

Yeah, it would.  The book was really good, I thought, even the translation.  The movie could be good, if they do it right.  The author's name was something like Bernard Shlink.  Never mind, I just looked it up:  Bernhard Schlink.

It just surprised me that they had cast Kate Winslet & Ralph Fiennes, since he is quite a bit older than she is in real life.  But I could see it done well this way.  They could age her quite a bit for the later parts of the film.  And that's all you're getting out of me.;)

Re: Misc Stuff

Just heard that the strike vote has been moved until after "emergency meetings" on Jan 12.  It sure was cool seeing Rosenberg say in an interview that the 133 stars who signed the letter asking SAG not to strike, "don't know what they're doing".  Yeah?  I'd like to see him say that Hanks, Clooney & Damon's faces.  Those guys are very political, smart and plugged-in.  I think maybe it's Rosenberg who doesn't know what he's doing.  And I bet he gets voted out in a landslide this September.

Re: Misc Stuff

I guess I was right - Hollywood indeed ran out of new ideas. roll

I don't believe this. 10 Things I Hate About You is going to be remade - by the same director and as far as I understand it's going to be turned in a TV series. roll.
See here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1321805/

Are they NUTS? They can't remake this movie!!! :witsend: I hope it's going to SUCK.
