Yeah, that was on the news here a lot. I guess bad people are everywhere, and the internet can be a tool for them to act on their impulses. Never hurts to have a little bit of paranoia in you when it comes to meeting people online...

I saw that guy on TV a while ago. Creepy.
And I should go to bed now. I just spend one and a half hour on the phone, talking to Nathalie about our trips to America. That's a topic we could talk about for days. But we'll probably meet on Sunday and showing pics to each other. It's going to be great! But unfortunately now I'll have a short night. And probably a lot of stress at work tomorrow. Oh, well. Thank God it's Friday!

I'm sure some of you heard of the plane crashing into the Hudson River this afternoon.
The good news is that everyone made it out.
Reason they are giving is that birds were sucked into both engines.
Offline
Was watching it on the news tonight. It was great to hear everyone was ok.

It's amazing everyone made it out alright. The Hudson River is frozen. It's also terrifying that some birds would make a jet crash.
Offline
Yeah, thank God everyone got out safely! The pictures were stunning. But I laughed a bit when I saw the accident described on Huffington Post as a "suspected bird attack". I hope that was meant to be tongue in cheek. I'm pretty sure those geese were not al Qaeda.

That internet story is creepy. What a psycho!

It just keeps getting colder and colder here.
Right now it's -16.
Predicted to go down to -23.
They say Friday's high will be 6 above. But why do I feel that it'll be colder or that that won't happen until very late in the day.
Offline
You know nothing of cold. Here it's -23*C (-9,3F) outside and our oil heater decided last night that it's gonna stop working now. Of course it does so when JTT is 800kilometers away. He talked me through a lot of things and we were trying to get the damn thing working properly but no such luck! Thank God we have an air-source heat pump in the livingroom. I put it on maximum heat but it can't heat up the whole house. And of course all the bedrooms are on the other side of the house. So... Now the oil heater has cooled down to 0*C (nice that the oil took it all night to cool down) and our indoor temperature is currently 18*C (64,4F) in livingroom-kitchen-lobby-area. The bedrooms are a few degrees celsius colder... Lovely. I'm freezing. We'll be off to JTT's mom as soon as I get to eat something.. And then I have to take the kids to see a doctor because they are all showing signs of ear infection... I so wanna move....

You should turn your water on a little so that the pipes don't freeze up. Worst thing to happen is a pipe bursts.
My landlord has the thermostat set at 64F, so it's a tad chilly downstairs. Up here in my room it's 75F.
Now I know this may seem a tad weird, but I actually have the bedroom window open to regulate the heat. Or else it would get near or above 80F in here.

It's -22F at 7:15 AM.
Joliet, which is just south of here, set a record when it got down to -31. Before that it was -19F in 1977.
At least today we should finally get above 0.
Offline
Finally the temps are starting to go up. Just slightly, right now it's -22F
Yesterdays high here was -9F.
I just hope this is the coldest it will get this Winter. I'm not going to complain if the lows go down to the single digits because that's nothing compared to this.

Yeah, it's 17 in Hotlanta right now. I could not live where you live, Illinois. No way, no how.

This year's DDW (Digestive Disease Week) is in Chicago at the end of May/beginning of June. I'm tempted to ask if I can go. I always wanted to see Chicago, and by then the temps will be bearable, right?

I'd love to go to Chicago but I'm not sure if I'd wanna hear about digestive diseases while I'm there. LOL
Nathalie told me if you wanna go to the US this year, now it the best time to book flights. A flight to New York is currently only 300something Euro. Oh, if I only were able to go ... *sigh*

If I go to DDW, my company will pay for the flight (and the hotel).

Yeah, I know, but not everyone has such as awesome job as you.

My job's not all that awesome. All these business trips sound great in theory, but in practice you often don't get to see much of the country or city you're in. You fly in, work, go to the hotel, work, fly out. Boring and tiring, most of the time. Unless you have a weekend in between. I might have to go to Rome in February, but I don't really want to. Not because of Rome, but because of the people I'll have to meet there.

Oh yeah, temps in May/June are very warm. Should be 60's to 70's in May and warmer in June.
April/May can have lots of rain though.
We usually start getting warmer in March & April with highs getting into the 40's & 50's and sometimes 60's.

It was 14 degrees Friday in Athens, Georgia and right now it's probably less. It's supposed to snow on Sunday. I want it to snow during the week so I can get a snow day. : )

Amazing Footage that was. Helps ensure me that pilots are capable of landing on water.
On a side note, was playing online multiplayer for the first time, and found it more enjoyable hearing this conversation between this American family, more than the actual game it self.

It's in the low 20's today, very windy though - so the wind chill is around 9F above.
Sunday & Monday will be in the upper teens with lows in the lower teens. Not too bad compared to last Thursday & Friday.
I saw that plane landing in the water on the news. Really terrific job by the pilot. Like they said on the news, things could have gone wrong in the landing - such as the engines digging into the water and with the torque could have caused it to break up. Or if there was ice in the river it would have broken up the fuselage and that would have caused the plane to sink very quickly.
