Oh well, I can't say I'm very excited since the only movies I've seen from that list are Australia and WALL-E, almost all the rest haven't been released in Germany yet. I'd love to see Changeling, I might do so on Sunday afternoon. It's actually playing as a matinee, so maybe I'll do that.

I seriously jumped up and down when I heard Anne Hathaway's name this morning

There is some good stuff there, but I think TDK is the only film I ever watched of this list by now. I'm still planning to see a few others, though.

Not a bad list of nominees this year. It's nice to see Heath Ledger got his nomination, and i'm still surprised that Robert Downey Jr, still got a nomination at the Oscars for Tropic Thunder. Never thought the Academy would go for a character from a film like Tropic Thunder.

The Academy is rather notorious for rewarding people for one movie when they should've been nominated for something else and got passed over. I think that nomination for RDJ is for his body of work and the fact that he was so hugely successful in Iron Man. He won't win of course. No one stands a chance against Heath. But it's a nice pat on the back to get a nomination.

Haha, I have a funny story for you about giving out "honor awards". There's this German publicist, his name is Marcel Reich Ranicki. He's infamous for being a literary critic. He's won numerous literary awards and he's basically the authority on German literature. He had a TV show where he and a group of others discussed books, kinda like a high level book club on TV.
So, in October 2008, he was supposed to be given the "Deutscher Fernsehpreis" (German TV Award) for his life's work. He went up to the stage and loudly proclaimed that everything he'd seen of the award ceremony was imbecile rubbish and that he would not accept the award. It was priceless. Reactions in the audience were so mixed. Some people were shocked, some were amused. It made the news the next morning. I myself thought it was kinda cool.

Yes, but that was back when he was in the middle of all his "troubles". And I think this nomination is about the fact that he survived all that and he's clean and sober and better than ever, as evidenced by Iron Man.
And yes, I hate the "lifetime" awards too. Michael Caine was not particularly outstanding in The Cider House Rules in 1999. The Supporting Actor Oscar should've gone to Haley Joel Osment that year. Nobody in any movie in all of 1999 was talked about more than The Kid. He was remarkable.

In the 70's Marlon Brando sent an American Indian woman up onstage to refuse his Oscar. Some thought it was cool, some thought he was nuts. Do you remember that, Carol? I don't recall the details...

I had no doubts about Hugh. He has always been a song & dance man. It was kind of off-beat this year, a little edgy even. I liked that. The musical numbers were kinda weird, but a lot of fun. I especially like that number near the end of the show from Slumdog that won best song.

I'm watching some Oscar Highlights on TV right now. I bet it was fun to watch Hugh Jackman, and I am actually sorry for missing it, but well, I had to work today, so there was no way that I could have stayed up.
When I saw Twilight last week I saw the trailer for Milk and really really REALLY wanted to see it and now they just spoiled the ending for me. But well, I like that Sean Penn won, so I'm still gonna watch it. I also want to see The Reader but I am probably going to wait for the DVD. Don't know yet.

They didn't realize they were spoiling the ending since it's a true story and most people know Harvey Milk was assassinated.

samsy-marie, you can watch milk even if you know what happens because it is not about the ending , it's about the story and it's an acting lesson from sean penn. like de niro said in his speech " how did you get away with playing straight men all these years ? " de niro's speech about penn was funny.

I was expecting Mickey Rourke to win and was soo looking foward to his speech, so i was very surprised that Sean Penn one. I havn't seen Milk yet but his acting in the short clips i've seen is amazing, and he was my second choice to win after Rourke.
I loved Hugh Jackman presenting, especially his musical montage. The pineapple Express action films sketch was hilarious too.

Dude, have you seen Mickey's speech at the Indie Spirit Awards? It was hysterically funny and foul-mouthed (in a good way).
