Amber Heard and Odette Yustman have signed on to star in "And Soon the Darkness," a remake of the 1970 British thriller being co-produced and co-financed by Studio Canal. Heard also is making her first foray into producer territory, acting as a co-producer on the film, which marks the feature directorial debut of commercials helmer Marcos Efron.
Set in Argentina, "Darkness" tells the story of two American girls on a bike-riding trip in a remote part of the country. When one of them goes missing, the other must find her before darkness falls and her worst fears are realized. The original was set in France and tackled the idea of how vulnerable a stranger in a strange land can be. The new "Darkness" will shoot in Argentina.

Sounds like it could be either a scary and cool psychological thriller, or torture porn. I'll hope for the former.

You mean you don't want to see Amber get tortured? (j/k)
BTW as a followup to the post before that, I just heard from Lou -- they are flying him in tomorrow night for the New York screening of Explicit Ills so he will be there along with writer/director/producer/editor Mark Webber. I wasn't sure if I was going but he asked me to come up so I may be going but I'm not certain.

Jay Baruchel is finally bringing his passion project -- based on his character Johnny Klutz --to the big screen.
Rob McKittrick has come aboard to write "Johnny Klutz," a comedy Universal picked up with Baruchel attached to star and Red Hour producing.
Working from his love of physical comedy, Baruchel created the character of Klutz, a lovable loser who is impervious to pain. He paired with Red Hour in the fall, pitching the concept to Universal execs Lawrence Grey and Eric Baiers. Grey has since departed the studio, a victim of company's December layoffs. Red Hour, which was based at DreamWorks, has since signed a first-look deal at Fox.
Baruchel and Red Hour kept honing the character, trying to crack his story, eventually meeting with McKittrick, the writer-director behind the ensemble comedy "Waiting ...," starring Ryan Reynolds and Anna Faris. McKittrick came up with a story based on the Klutz character, which put the project in gear.
Ben Stiller, Stuart Cornfeld and Jeremy Kramer are producing for Red Hour. Thruline's Marc Hamou and Willie Mercer, who rep Baruchel, will serve as executive producers.
Baiers and Dave Targan will oversee the project for Universal.
McKittrick, repped by CAA and H2F, has several projects in development, including the comedies "Man Crush" and "The Wingman" at New Line.
Canada native Baruchel slowly has been moving up the comedy food chain in Hollywood, starring in the short-lived "Undeclared," the feature "Knocked Up" and finally landing a key part in "Tropic Thunder," produced by Red Hour.
The actor, additionally repped by CAA, is prepping to shoot the Disney-Bruckheimer movie "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," opposite Nicolas Cage, and has "She's Out of My League" in the can.

I love that Tony Shaloub presented Dan with his Tony Award. It's the cutest clip ever. Video #9 has him performing in the play that he won for and winning his award.

Awww little Anton.
I always liked Chekov so it's great Anton is playing him. The film just literally has an amazing cast.

I'm really curious how Anton will sound with a Russian accent. But you know what? Somehow I have the feeling my two OV theaters aren't gonna show the movie in English. I can't even really say why, but they haven't shown movies I would have thought they'd surely show recently. So let's cross fingers, because it would suck big time if it wasn't running in OV here anywhere. It's definitely a movie you have to see on the big screen. Maybe I'll get my chance in Denmark when I visit my friend in Kopenhagen at the end of May. (Denmark subtitles by default, so there would be no dubbing.)

You do know that Anton is Russian, right? Born in Russia. I'm sure he'll sound spot-on. I'm looking forward to hearing it too. As much as I dig Walter Koenig, I'm sure Anton's accent will be a million times better than his. That is unless, they told him to copy Walter's accent.

He's the only actor i'm waiting to hear speak in the film now. I've seen no clips of John Cho talking either, but i'm guessing who would use his normal accent.
