Home Of The Giants

Deb will know of this movie, and maybe some other folks here have heard about it too. It's an independent movie with Haley Joel Osment and Ryan Merriman that some of us have followed for a while. Unfortunately, as it often happens with indies, finding a distribution deal is tough and it has never been released theatrically. It's been sitting on the shelf forever. The DVD has been released in Australia in January, though.

There's now a kind of petition going to get it released in theaters. Go here if you wanna join: http://www.homeofthegiants.com/HotGinUSA.htm

Re: Home Of The Giants

Yeah, I know that movie too. Great trailer. I haven't seen Hailey Joel Osment in anything for years. I was usprised to see him so old and differnt looking. Anyways, the movie seems good. I wonder if I ever get to see it. I quess there's no point for me to sign that petition since it seems to be for americans.

I love Ryan Merriman. He's that kid that played young Jared in the Pretender. big_smile He was great in Veritas: The Quest. He has a hot body in that one... Why the heck they had to go cancel that show too...

Any voice counts. I signed it too, even though I'm not from the US. I love Ryan Merriman too. I think Haley looks odd now that he's older. Can't really say why...

Re: Home Of The Giants

Signed.  Been a Haley fan for 9 years now.  He does not look odd, damnit!  Stop saying that or I'm gonna start yelling SHEEPHEAD all over the place at the top of my lungs!  Quit picking on the lad.  He's still a cutie-pie.  Been a huge Merriman fan for a long time too, since he was a preteen.  I agree with you about Veritas, Maria. I loved that show.  This movie really needs to come out already.  It's been delayed longer than Fanboys!

I wasn't picking on Haley. I'm sure he's a wonderful actor, and I'm sure he has tons of fans who think he looks hot and beautiful. I don't have to be one of them to like his work, right? I sure wanna see HOTG, and I'll be looking forward to Haley in it too.

Did you write an email instead of signing it? Because the site says if you're not from the US, you can email.

Re: Home Of The Giants

Thank you all so much for supporting Home of the Giants. I've been following the developments of this movie for a little over 3 years now. And I'm thrilled and excited about this petition smile Finally some good news. I know the reasons why this movie got delayed but can't discuss it here, I can tell you though, it's all politics. Also, I just learned that VVS Films is the distributor for Home of the Giants in Canada (2009, all media).

Here's the trailer and here is a little clip from the movie (2 scenes with Ryan Merriman). If you stumble upon another trailer, do not watch it, unless you want to know how the movie ends, the biggest mistake you can make when making a trailer, is to stuff it with spoilers.

Re: Home Of The Giants

The first time I heard about HOTG is also years ago now. I haven't followed the development of the movie too closely, but every now and then I've been wondering what happened to it. We know all about politics and making that delay a movie for years. Same thing with Fanboys, one of Chris's movies. Luckily we've been given the chance to see it at a screening in LA three weeks ago. You wouldn't believe what this movie has been through, and most of it was politics. Looks like it will now finally be released on November 26, 2008. In 50 theaters. It's so sad.

Thanks for the warning, I try to avoid spoilers as best as I can.

Re: Home Of The Giants

Wow, 50 theaters, that's not much! Lucky that you guys got to see it! Do you think that Fanboys will get a wider release if it does will in those 50 theaters, or is that it?

Re: Home Of The Giants

We sure hope it gets a wider release if it does well, but no one knows. The 50 theaters hasn't been publicly announced yet, so who knows if that's their final decision. There is so much to tell where the history of Fanboys is concerned. Our Fanboys thread is 80 pages long, and there's a second thread with lots of rants.

It's not just the number of theaters, it's also the fact that the Weinstein Company isn't terribly interested in promoting the movie. They basically just don't care if it does well or not. They'll just dump it in 50 theaters and I think they wanna see it crash and burn. At least that should ensure a quick DVD release. That would be one good thing to come of this.

Oh man, that just plain sucks. Why wouldn't they care?

Seems like Home of the Giants just can't get any breaks either. They were just about to sign a theatrical release deal when the financial crisis hit and the deal was pulled at the last minute.

On the other hand, Home of the Giants is now nominated for Best Feature Film and Best Director at the Best of the Midwest Awards.

Here's the banner.

Re: Home Of The Giants

I watched Home of the Giants the other night (it's been released on DVD in Australia). I didn't expect anything specific from it, but in the end I was a little disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad movie. I guess I just expected more from it. The story is solid and the acting is great, but it just didn't feel special. It's like I've seen this kind of storyline before in one way or another. So, sadly, I can't really say the long wait was worth it for me. I'm glad I saw the movie, but I don't think I'll have the urge to rewatch it any time soon or recommend it highly to my friends.

Deb, Anne and Larry, I hope you like it better than I did.

I was planning to watch it tonight if I still have sleeping problems. I wanted to watch it earlier but then I watched Choose Connor first.

Re: Home Of The Giants

Finally remembered that I had the movie when I had time to watch it.  Just got done.  LOVED IT!!!  OK, it's not gonna win any awards or anything, but it's a cool little indie, made with love.  And Haley was so cuuuuuute!  And he got the girl.  Schweet!  Some good music choices, too, I thought.  Ryan did a terrific job as well, but it's definitely Haley's movie.  It sucks that they haven't just put this on DVD already so fans of these boys can see it.  But then, we Chris fans know all about that, don't we?

Re: Home Of The Giants

Ryan did a terrific job as well, but it's definitely Haley's movie.

I see it the other way around, it's definitely Ryan's movie, but maybe I'm too biased wink But the movie wouldn't have been this great without Haley or Ryan, there's a great chemistry between the two.

I loved it too! Matt playing air guitar to "Carry on my wayward son" scene just cracks me up every time. It has a lot of humor into it.
