Re: Fast Food discussion

You've NEVER had Domino's?  Wow.  I haven't had their pizza in a long time because I've found a great mom & pop joint near work that I hit whenever I get a craving.  Somehow, the crust at all three of the major delivery places is just too rubbery for my taste.  It's supposed to be crispy and maybe a little chewy, but not rubbery.  I drove for Domino's for 8 months not long after high school and used to adore their pizza, but I'm spoiled now.  For pizza, I choose Napoli, Johnny's and Mellow Mushroom in that order.

I also try not to eat fast food burgers anymore.  If I have to, I usually get a couple of regular McDonald's hamburgers.  But if I want a burger, I prefer to go to US Cafe Express or Mike's Chicago Dog, or maybe Steak & Shake.  The two mom & pops are both cheap, made from scratch and excellent.

We don't have White Castle, but we do have our own version, called Krystal --- which originated in Chattanooga, TN.  When I get that slider craving, maybe once or twice a year, that's where I go.  They have these great little chicken sandwiches too.

I love Popeye's, but not for the chicken.  Their catfish is outstanding and I also like the popcorn and butterfly shrimp.  My favorite fried chicken actually comes from the Publix (grocery store) deli.

I'm also a fan of Subway & Quizno's.  And I've been known to go to Taco Bell on occasion.

I agree about McDonalds fries.  They're about the best of the big chains.

Once in awhile if I decided I want something fried (and I usually regret it later) I get the Fish & More plate at Long John Silvers.

Re: Fast Food discussion

Since Subway supplied me with money and food for a few months, I like them.  I'm crazy about Arby's curly fries.   Other than that, I almost never eat fast food anymore.

I used to love Taco Bell.  I could eat like six soft tacos in one sitting.  Then I worked at the one near my high school for about a week.  I never set foot in one again.  If you wanna stop eating at a particular fast food place, work there for a couple weeks.  Chances are, what you find will disgust you.

Re: Fast Food discussion

McDonalds is only one of those I've been to. We don't have it in our town, but I've checked it out when visiting other cities. We've got a few similar chains called Scanburger and Hesburger and then there's the's Grill-places, independent. I can honestly say I hate the hamburgers in thoose places. The stakes are discusting and the fries and limpy. If I have to go there (because my friends/family members want to), I always choose the chicken- or veggie burger or some salad with chicken or salmon. Those are yummy in them. Then there's some gas stations that have burgers too, but they pretty much have the same yucky food. Some of these places have "home cooked" food too, healthy options. Those can be yummy.

OK, keep that in mind if ever visiting Finland and get hungry on the road! lol Avoid hampurgers at any cost. If absolutely have to have one, the most edable one is Scanburger's Scanburgers. wink Or come visit me, I make a wicked burger and hell of a lot healthier! Uh-oh, am I actually bragging about my cooking now...? lol Sorry, it's just that I've got very much compliments on the stakes I make out of ground meat... That's probably why I'm so opposed to fast food-stakes. x)

What comes to pizza, there's a lot of chains here too. And lots of independent ones. Can't remember any international ones you might know... Hubs likes this one place called "Take-off" because there's huge family size pizzas; honestly it's almost a meter wide! I find them a bit limp and the taste is a bit off. The best pizzas I've had were in my fave Chinese restaurant and in a kebab-place in my town.

Which brings me to what I usually get when I eat out/want fast food: go to the chinese place or the kebab place. They have huge portions, absolutely delicious. It's more than worth the money it costs. Really, in the kebab-place they give this box full of food; it's enough for me AND my three kids. lol And we ain't light eaters...

Oh, I almost forgot.. There's this sandwich place called Subway. I don't know if it's the same chain you called Subway. I love those sandwiches! If I had one those places here in this town, I'd eat there once a week!

Anyone have any fast food- horror stories? lol

Once when I was a kid and visiting my stepdad in Kemi (not far from my current location), he lived in this crappy part of town. The pub next door was a pizza place too and he got us some pizza. It. Was. AWFUL! It smelled and tasted like parfume! The person that made them most have been swimming in parfume before work or someone must have sprayed it on her self in the kitchen... Unbelieveable!

Another one.. Last summer I got me and my visiting siblings some pizza from my hubs' beloved Take off. There was weird lumps in the pizza. Almost felt like there was some short of chorda or something similar in the pizza.. Eww.... I lost my taste on that place then.

I love Subway, Quiznos, any pizza place, McDonald's, Wendy's, and Panda Express.
