Re: Stone to walk 'Wall Street' again

I know.  Got the awful news on the Ollie IMDb board, where I'm a regular.  I could just cry right now because we all wanted Ollie to revisit this idea and see if Gekko still thinks "greed is good" in 2009/10.  But of the Little Creep signs on, I will never, ever see this movie and I won't be able to hang out with my Ollie friends and talk about it.  All I can do right now is pray that someone comes to their senses and offers the movie to a real actor.

Why would someone want Shia to be in one of their movies? I don't understand at all why he's gotten as far as he has and why he has so many girls in love with him..

I haven't seen many of his movies, but he actually isn't that bad of an actor.  And he's kind of cute.   Disturbia's one of my favorite movies.

Re: Stone to walk 'Wall Street' again

I didn't despise, loathe and detest Justin Timberlake.  I just didn't care about him at all.  I never had any issue with him being in Alpha Dog.  And as we all know, he was terrific.  I wouldn't say that movie made me a JT fan, but it certainly made me like the guy more than I ever did before.

And you guys can just climb down off your high horses because I know that somewhere out there, there is at least one "star" whom you absolutely cannot stand.  We all have at least one.  If you say otherwise, you are being less than honest.  The Little Creep is that one for me.  I'd rather have my eyes poked out with sharp sticks than have to look at him.

Movies and shows very often appeal to me (or not) specifically because of cast.  What's wrong with that?  I like what I like and I make no apologies for it.  This website exists and we are all here because 5 years ago, I gave a little show called Joan Of Arcadia a chance based solely on the fact that I adore Mary Steenburgen.

Flip the coin... I do not feel any obligation whatsoever to set aside my loathing for any particular individual and force myself to watch something that I simply do not want to watch.  If you can't understand that, I'm sorry.  This is still a free country, I believe.  Why would I wanna put myself through something that will only be unpleasant for me?  Life is far too short to waste time on things I don't care about.

I'm mainly upset because my Ollie friends and I were getting really excited about the prospect of a Wall Street sequel.  It could be an important film and now it's completely ruined.

Re: Stone to walk 'Wall Street' again

Politics doesn't really enter into it for me, unless a preson is totally in-your-face with it.  I actually kinda felt sorry for ol' Chuck when Mike Moore lit into him in Bowling For Columbine.

What really turns me off to people is the way they behave.  And the mediocre little cretin in question is just a jerk.  He's living proof that nice guys finish last and scum rises to the top.

The way I figure it, if the mere sight of someone's arrogant mug makes me feel sick to my stomach, why the hell would I want to subject myself to 2 hours of looking at them?

You wanna know the only way you could get me to watch a Sheephead movie...?

I think Deb's talking about that time he got arrested for public drunkenness and he asked the arresting officer "do you have any idea who I am?" or something like that.

I wouldn't go as far as saying there's any actor that I absolutely can't stand. There's actors I don't particularly like, such as Tilda Swinton or, I don't know, Adam Sandler? However, I don't think I can say for myself that I despise them enough to not want to see a movie they're in if the movie and story sound interesting to me. I've seen Tilda in at least three movies, and I still enjoyed them a whole lot. I can honestly say I've never seen an Adam Sandler movie, but that's because I don't like the kind of movies he makes. Or take Tom Cruise. I don't like what he does as a person, but I do enjoy seeing him in movies. And I can't even say that I find that wrong.

As far as Shia goes, I think he's actually a pretty decent actor. So far I've liked the movies with him that I've seen. I don't know what to think about him as a person because I've never seen him outside the movies. Nor do I really care to find out more about what he's like as a person.

For me, seeing a movie is all about getting into the story and living through what the characters are living through. If someone's a good actor, they make you forget that they're actors and make you see the character they're portraying. Now, of course I see that if you really despise someone, it's hard to get past the fact that they're just a character on the screen you're watching. I, myself, don't think I could ever hate someone I don't know in person that much that I'd point blank refuse to see a movie I find interesting just because there's this actor in it.

Re: Stone to walk 'Wall Street' again

To answer Illinois on jerkiness...

1) On the set of I, Robot, he was reportedly incredibly rude to the crew, especially the women.  Crew members are not your slaves, little man.  How you treat people below your pay grade speaks to character and he has none.

2) He likes to bray to the press about how horrible his parents were to him.  Even said once that because of his awful childhood he "shit his pants until he was 12 years old".  TMI, dude!  Go cry to Paul Peterson, maybe he'll care.

3) He got arrested in the middle of a Walgreen's at 3 AM for being a drunken lout and refusing to leave when he was asked to.  The incident Laura was referring to.

4) He almost got arrested in LA for refusing to put out his cigarette in a restaurant when there's very clear-cut no smoking rules in all LA restaurants and he knows it.  I think he escaped with a fine for that one.

5) While shooting T2, he felt that screwing around was more important than staying healthy for the film.  So he was out running all over LA in the middle of the night partying and he crashed his car, almost destroyed his own hand (he'll never get full use back).  It shut down principal photography for a month, forcing them to shoot second unit while they waited for him to recover and sort out the legal mess the accident landed him in.  This hugely expensive movie lost it's party-boy star because he had to go out and act like a crass little punk.

In other words, he consistently acts like an ungrateful, spoiled rotten little brat, or like a 70's rock star on a 5-year bender.  And yet people just keep giving him work.  The guy has basically two facial expressions and they're both doofy.  I don't get it.

I really didn't want to go on another tirade about the guy because frankly, I'd just as soon pretend he doesn''t exist.  But hey, you asked, so...

Re: Stone to walk 'Wall Street' again

To TeeJay...

The way I figure it, if the mere sight of someone's arrogant mug makes me feel sick to my stomach, why the hell would I want to subject myself to 2 hours of looking at them?

Can't get much clearer than that.

I don't like Adam Sandler either, or Will Farrell for that matter.  But I saw Spanglish because it looked sweet and had Tea Leoni in it.  And I watched Elf because of Mary Steenburgen.  I don't HATE either of those guys, I just choose not to see most of their movies because I'm not a fan of the booger-eating school of comedy.  Which is company that I now place Danny McBride squarely in.  He didn't bother me too much until I accidentally saw some of Eastbound & Down.  That show is just repulsive.  So phooey on Danny too.

There are always people I don't like.  Take the bands Weezer & Oasis.  Cannot stand them.  They come on the radio, I instantly change the channel.  I know that you all have bands/singers you do the same with.

Actors, to me, are no different.  Though I can't really recall ever having the kind of disgust for any other actor that I have for Sheephead.  Ever.  Again, I ask you if I can't stand the sight of him, why the hell would I wanna spend two minutes with him, much less two hours?

How can you tell when you don't watch what he's in? I know you've seen I, Robot, the Even Stevens episode he did with Chris and the ER he did with Chris. I don't really recall him in I, Robot much, but I thought he did a good job in the ER episode. I also liked him in Disturbia and Transformers. Just my personal opinion. Guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

*nods* Yes, this one I definitely agree on. Björk or Jamiroquai are two examples where I instantly change the channel, along with two particular songs from a German band called Söhne Mannheims. But I somehow think that's comparing apples with oranges (or however that saying goes in English).

Here's an idea, how about we just let it drop?

She doesn't like Shia, TJ doesn't like Adam Sandler, I don't like Justin Timberlake.  Isn't sharing fun?

Re: Stone to walk 'Wall Street' again

Your perogative, Illinois.  I happen to like knowing that most of my favorite people are decent human beings.  I guess that's just me.

Would I go see a movie if Chris and Sheephead were both in it?  No.  I'd wait for DVD so I wouldn't be a prisoner in the theater.  And then I'd do the best I could not to look at the Little Creep anymore than I had to.  That said, this is my ultimate entertainment nightmare.  I pray to God almighty that it never happens.

Re: Stone to walk 'Wall Street' again

TeeJay, maybe it's the trailers that make it seem like he only has two expressions --- smug and scared.  Because in every trailer for the movies you mentioned and Indy 4, that's all you see.

Laura, I never wanted to talk about this in the first place.  I didn't start the thread.  I expressed my extreme disappointment that I will not be seeing the next Oliver Stone movie and I hoped that would be the end of it.  I have zero interest in talking about it anymore.

I'd much rather talk about things I love than things I hate any day.

If Chris was in a movie with Shia I would see it but only because of Chris. And when it comes to music I can't stand any of the rap crap. All rappers to me are annoying.

Re: Stone to walk 'Wall Street' again

Glad to know it's a done deal so I know that I will definitley be avoding the movie and (any talk about it including this thread) like the plague.  Damn shame.  Good job, Oliver.  You officially disenfranchised at least one more fan.  I haven't been on the Stone IMDb board since this was announced.  And I'll never go back now, unless by some bizarre miracle Pinkville gets resurrected.

Have a nice rest of your life, Mr. Stone.
