Hey Guys, specifically Teejay, Deb and Samsy....Just wanting to check that its cool to use the photos and videos you have posted on this site to create my own spin on things. I plan on crediting you but just wanting to know if its alright instead of having to hunt them all down for myself. I actually have a plan at the moment to fool around with a few of the videos but im not going to say anything till its done and then i will show you. But is it ok if i download them off the site to use?????

TeeJay -- I sent you an email about this too, but i figure i might as well ask on here too...What program do you use to get those wmv files from the dvds??? I would love to be able to do that myself too
And now purely cos im in a silly mood....:P

For screencaps I use a DVD playing software that comes with the Nero CD/DVD burning package, which is called Nero ShowTime. It has a screengrab button included. I know other DVD playing softwares (e.g. PowerDVD) have that function too. There must be freeware DVD players out there that can do screencaps. ShowTime initially saves the images as BMP files, which are way too large in file size, so I always go and edit them after I've grabbed them off the DVD. I do all that in my image editing software, which is Corel PhotoPaint. However, there's good freeware image editors out there that can do that too. Not sure if XN View does image editing, but it's a great thumbnail viewer and can also do batch processing, which I often use when working on lots of screencaps at the same time.
As for vidcaps, I use three different programs, actually. I get the raw VOB files off the DVD with DVDShrink (freeware). Then I edit the VOB files with VirtualDub MPEG (freeware) and save them as AVI files. The AVI files I import into Windows Movie Maker (should be pre-installed on any XP computer) and save them as WMV files.
Do you need more detailed info?

Oh wow, see now i feel a little bit retarded....cos i actually have nearly all of those programs already. The only one i dont have is VirtualDub MPEG, but that should be easy enough to download. I have never used the ShowTime section of Nero, but I am pretty sure i already have it considering i have Nero Premium 7 and use it to burn disks all the time. I use DVDShrink to copy dvds all the time but never had a converting program from VOB to AVI so didnt bother to save the files onto the computer. But i use Movie Maker all the time too... So i should be pretty sweet with being able to do this. Thanks TeeJay! If i have any more questions i promise i will be back asking you soon enough

There are different Virtual Dub mods out there, you need to make sure to get the one that can do MPEG, most other Virtual Dub mods can't interpret MPEG or VOB files. This one should do the trick, though I haven't checked if it's actually the right one: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Vir … -MPEG2.htm From the version number, though, it appears to be the same one I use.

I wish I could understand all of what was just said in those last three posts... LMAO!
I would love to make my very own video captures of some of my fave scenes from all his movies and edit it into one big tribute video...
but I have NO IDEA where to even start or how to do it.
Im good with computers just not tech savvy with programs much.
I work with paint, SAI paint tool, youtube catcher, Windows Movie Maker, and simply play the DVDs on my laptop and hit PRINT SCREEN to get all my screen shots. LOL!

Bree, I'm not good with making video collages. It's just way too much fiddling for me. I know how to cut videos in Windows MovieMaker and how to run a few filters in VirtualDub, but I don't have a lot of patience for working with video files. It just involves so much waiting, like it'll take 3 minutes for a video to load and another 5 for the video to save, and I'm sitting there, drumming my fingers because it takes all the CPU capacity and I can't do anything else with my computer in the meantime. When it comes to picture collages, however, that's a whole other matter and I love doing that.

Since I'm at work now where I don't have VirtualDub installed, I can't give you the exact description, but basically you open the VOB file with VD and then click File - Save as AVI and save it somewhere on your hard drive. If you leave the file as it is, it'll become very big because you're not using compression. It can get up to several gigabytes, so make sure you choose a saving location where there's enough space. If you want to try compressing the file, I think there's a menu item called Video - Compression. Try any of the options given, not all of them always work and not all give you a decent result in the end. It's very much trial and error. If you wanna hear it from the experts: http://www.virtualdub.org/virtualdub_docs.html or http://www.jimmyr.com/blog/14_Virtualdu … 0_2007.php
Good luck! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Okay I've got some good news and some bad news TeeJay...
The good news is I have virtualdub now downloaded on my laptop so I can begin making my own vidclip snippets and editing them together to make my own tribute video slide! hehehe YAY!!!! I actually got that far O.O! At least i know it works on my comp.
The bad news is... I have NO IDEA how to use this program and need to know how I can record the certain snippets in the movies I play with the program and put them together as one video.
Iif you could kindly help me with this or give any info as to how its done id be very much in your debt!!
I tried recording a piece but all it did was record a piece of the very beginning of my Fanboys file I have here on my comp. It didnt record the scene I jumped to...

I will assume that you're trying to record something off a DVD, right? You can't do that with VD (at least I don't think you can). You first need to "rip" the DVD to your hard drive (= copy the DVD to your hard drive). There's different softwares that can do so, I usually use DVD Shrink. It will put the video files on your hard drive in VOB format, which you will then have to open with VD. What I then do is covert the files to AVI with VD so I can open them in Windows MovieMaker and actually cut them together there. Much easier because VD really isn't very intuitive to use.
I'm no expert with this either, and it'll be hard to describe this process from scratch if you haven't ever done video editing. Just be aware that if you rip the whole DVD to your computer, you'll end up with huge files. A DVD usually is between 4 and 8 GB in size, DVD Shrink will "shrink" it to around 4.7 GB (and probably split the video into 1 GB chunks unless you tell it not to). If you convert these to uncompressed AVI, it'll take HUGE amounts of space. Like several hundreds GBs if you'd choose to convert a whole DVD and not just chunks of it. Plus, it'd take a loooooong time to convert. You can tell DVD Shrink to only rip portions of the DVD, but it'd take a while to explain that.
Also, there have to be easier ways than what I'm doing to make vidcaps off a DVD, especially if you're a beginner. I just use what I know. I'm sure there's software out there that will make this much easier.

Okay, so, this is gonna be long winded and very confusing TeeJay but try and stay with me here lol.
I am attempting to rip a copy of my TGND unrated DVD movie onto my laptop. I am using the freeware programs:
DVD Decrypter - to rip the information from the DVD onto my laptop in fragments of audio and video and bypass protection encryption and such.
I'm using AudioGK to take all the little tidbits of info that I've ripped off the DVD (audio bits and video segments) to put them alltogether as ONE FILE and a complete copy WITH SOUND on my laptop.
Here's the problem:
I read the tutorial this guy put online on how to do all of this and followed his EXACT instructions to the latter.
But for some odd reason he did NOT go into detail on which of these little files and tidbits I needed to put into this program one at a time and in WHAT order so that there would be both PICTURE & SOUND and a finished single file product.
So far I am stumbling in the dark trying to put in as many as I can and in as many different types of order I can to try and see if I can make it all work and come together as one file.
IM CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR  *sighs*
If you know WHICH FILES and in WHAT order to put them in during the process of using this program I would really appreciate the help.
I HAVE SO MANY SEGMENTED FILES in my TGND folder when I ripped it that I have NO idea which one to put first and which ones to follow it with.
I dont even know which ones are the sound files for the movie.
I have...
.IFO's
.VOB's
.BUP's
And four LONG segments of the movie devided into four that play just fine on windows media player but with NO SOUND.
Which is why he tells me I need the AudioGK in order to combine all four and the sound components.
I feel dumb because several times I almost had it but then the sound failed and other times it only produced a snippet of the beginning WARNING: "blah blah part of the movie but didnt complete it!"
I certainly hope you have used this program before and know how to edit all these pieces together TeeJay but if not that's okay I will just have to find another way.
If you know any easy free DVD ripping software that will rip the whole entire thing for me in one file AND WITH SOUND LMAO please let me know.
I am one whooped puppy and VERY CONFUSED. Struggling! lol

The VOB files are the video files that contain both sound and video. The other files are just "information" files that will tell your DVD player/software how to play the video files. The reason why you're not hearing sound is probably because you're lacking the AC3 filter that you need to listen to DVD-coded sound. Try to install the latest filter from this site: http://ac3filter.net/project/1/releases
I have AutoGK on my computer as well, but I've never used it to put files together and I wouldn't know how to do that either. Can it even do that? I always thought it was just a converter (i.e. to make VOB files into DivX or Xvid coded AVIs).
If you wanna use Windows MovieMaker for the final cutting together snippets and bits and pieces, you don't need to have your movie as one big file, it would be fine to have it in smaller size chunks. You can import all these chunks into MovieMaker and then extract from them what you need or put them together in whatever order you want. In short, you will need to convert the VOB files to AVI with AutoGK one by one to then use them further in your actual video editing software.

Good to know!! Thank you so much TeeJay! And yes you actually can put them all together I just havent figured out how to yet but I know it can be done using AudioGK.
I swear I got so frustrated I gave up and scrapped all the AudioGK and DVD Decrypter software and just said SCREW IT I'll go search Limewire for the download lmao and sure enough there it was, TGDN unrated DVD rip AVI file.
But I found the full movie file somewhere online so I have it on my computer now.
Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet IM SO HAPPY! I cant wait to get started in making my very own special TGND/Eli tribute video... will I need to download windows moviemaker? or do I already have it on my computer as a basic program for windows vista?

Hm, I still don't see how. AutoGK has very limited options and buttons, and even in the hidden options (Ctrl + F9) there's nothing to suggest you can append video files. The tutorial on their official website doesn't mention it either. To me it still looks like all that AutoGK can do is convert single files. I've tried to Google this just now because I'm curious about how it might work, and all the tutorials I found only used AutoGK for converting and then appended the different video files with Virtual Dub. Hm.... If you ever find out how you can use AutoGK for appending files, please let me know.
However, I'm glad you found another way because it really is quite a complicated process. Can't wait to see what you come up with!
Not sure if MovieMaker comes with Windows Vista, but it was automatically installed on my XP computers, so I don't see why Vista wouldn't have it.

All I know is that he said it right there in his tutorial up at the very beginning of it in that large paragraph that AudioGK acts as an AVI pipeline that will pass the files through and convert them as ONE file. Hmm... *shrugs* maybe he left out a few steps. Maybe he's insane.:/
LMAO if I ever find out I will definitely let you know TeeJay!
But yeah I did find another way. Im searching for moviemaker now. Do you or anyone here on the MB know how to operate moviemaker that can give me a crash course?
If not Im sure Ill find a way. I may run out of will but I still always find a way. *giggles*

Take your pick: http://www.google.de/search?as_q=window … afe=images
I'm not sure what the guy means with that sentence, but it could be read either way, I guess. I think he was just saying that you can make a single AVI file from any single VOB file you convert. DVD Shrink will let you rip your DVD to one big file instead of making it into 1 GB chunks if you un-select the "Split into 1 GB chunks" option in the preferences. You can then use AutoGK to make one single AVI file from the one single VOB file you had.
