That leaves me with a hard decision. US DVD or German DVD? There's a 20 day difference in release dates, and sometimes it takes that long to ship to me from an international online store... Hm...... Guess I'm gonna wait and see what the SRP for the German DVD is gonna be like and what features it'll have.

Oh, actually amazon.de says it comes out on August 13 in Germany. But there's only a one-disc edition listed and it doesn't say anything about the extras. It comes out on Blu-ray as well, including a digital copy. That's all I could see for now. I would definitely have the DVD earlier if I ordered it in Germany, but what good is that if they only release a single-disc edition without all those extras that are on the US version? I hate it when they do that.

I'd still get the US version. I HATE dubbed movies and German DVD versions. But hey, now I don't need to go watch the movie on big screen. I recently found out that my OV theatre is showing it now. I wanted to go this weekend, but since I've already seen it (I won't say where LOL) I can save the money now and wait for the DVD.

EDIT: Just found out that the schedule has changed. Oh, well.

German DVD cover:

Apparently there will only be a 1-disc edition in German and the special features are deleted/extended scenes and bloopers. Sounds like it's a German version of the US 1-disc edition.

On the official website, they have some new videos, including a few bloopers. Chris is not in them. Wonder if he'll be in what ends up on the DVD. If so, probably not much. I found a very short clip from the movie online. Towards the end is a few seconds of Chris walking down a corridor with other men. It's mostly of Dwayne Johnson breaking into a lab.

Review of the Blu-Ray extras from comingsoon.net

Unfortunately they went light on the bonus features. There are 3 minutes of bloopers. There are also 9 Deleted Scenes. Most of them are quite minor. Among the notable ones is more of Kim Richards as Tina, the waitress. We see her serving Jack and the kids hamburgers which they stuff their faces with. Another scene shows her being confronted by the alien bounty hunter. There is also a longer ending showing a tearful goodbye with the kids, then another ending showing Burke telling Jack and Alex he's still watching them. "Which Mountain?" is the highlight of the bonus features and shows all the Easter Eggs hidden in the film. And boy are there a lot of them. They have everything from a cameo by the Nattie Gann actress to a cameo by the "Tron 2.0" producer. It's worth checking out everything they hid. Rounding things out is a BD-Live feature.

The two disc deluxe edition has the same special features as the Blu-ray, it seems. Just the bloopers and deleted scenes. That's all. Chris is in neither. Not once. Actually, none of the bad guys are, it's all Dwayne, the kids, Carla Gugino and Ike and Kim. The single-disc edition appears to be a barebones version that has only the movie and no special features at all. So if you're a fan of the Witch Mountain movies, the 2-disc edition might be for you. If you just wanna buy the DVD for Chris and don't care much for deleted scenes and bloopers (the latter are pretty much a Dwayne Johnson one-man show), there's no need to buy the deluxe edition.

I did try the digital copy disc, but it tells me my Windows MediaPlayer is missing a security component which my computer tells me it can't install. I'm gonna try it on my laptop later, but if it doesn't work there either, the digital copy is pretty much useless for me because I don't have iTunes (and don't wanna install it).

Overall, I'm pretty disappointed. Chris told us he had a blooper reel back home that he's in a lot. Looks like none of that made it onto the DVD. The DVD also isn't playing in my DVD software except for Windows MediaPlayer. I might not even be able to make screen- or vidcaps, but I'm gonna try to find a way. I don't know if WMP can do screencaps, I've never used it for that, adding to the fact that it can't switch off the French subtitles for some reason.

I have noticed a trend that is happening.

Studios will offer both the dvd and Blu-Ray. However, the dvd is bare-bones. Whereas the Blu-Ray has all the extras.

It seems to me be a rather stupid thing to do. At this point in time standard dvd is still owned by the majority and Blu-Ray is still a niche market.

I've read on other boards that many aren't even buying the dvd anymore because of this.

I don't know if this player will work, but you could try the VLC player which does play dvds according to their site.

Thanks, I actually have VLC already, but haven't tried it with the DVD yet. I've managed to upgrade my WMP too, so hopefully the digital copy will work as well.
