Gastronautica... The Foodie Thread

OK, so who else like to try new foods, or at least new restaurants?

I love trying new things.  We had free meal coupons from a new place called Evos.  They're a "clean", healthy fast food place.  They gave away sandwich combos.  Joe and I went and it was very good.  There's other stuff I wanna try too, like the Mediterranean  salad and a trout sammy. Yum!

Primanti Brothers isn't new by a long shot, it opened in the 1930s, but it's a Pittsburgh tradition.  If you're ever in Pittsburgh, you need to try Primanti's.

There's also a couple in Fort Lauderdale, I've never been to either of them but I don't think it would be the same there.

Re: Gastronautica... The Foodie Thread

Gastronautica. lol Wellnamed! Especially fitting in Finnish. "nauti" is finnish for "enjoy" tongue "Nauttikaa" means "Enjoy!" as in when people tell other people to enjoy. OK. Language class just missed. Lets use our tongues for something better. tongue

I ate out today. On a not so fresh and healthy fast food joint. I wouldn't call it fast food. It took 20 minutes for me to get the damn veggie burger with fries. I had that since I'm such a pinchpenny and it was the cheepest thing around (I can't stand hamburger-meat so I always take veggie- or chicken burger). They do serve some divinelooking fancier dishes there too. I drooled over my table-neighbour's dish. lol My veggieburger was fine. At first. Then it started to come back up because there was cooked carrots in it and made it absolutely nausiating. I've never before seen carrots on a veggieburger. I'll pass it in future events. Next time I'll just have a chicken burger or one of them fancy dinners. roll

Re: Gastronautica... The Foodie Thread

Laura, I've seen Primanti Bros. on both the Food Network and the Travel Channel.  It's one of those place I hope to visit if I ever get to Pittsburgh.  It' doesn't have to be a new place.  I just wanted a thread where we could discuss adventures in food, since it's one of my favorite things.

My dream would be to go on a Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives tour.

I love beefaroni and ravioli, but they give me terrible heartburn, so I can't really eat them anymore.

Re: Gastronautica... The Foodie Thread

I can't eat red sauce much.  If I have pasta, I try to stick with cream sauces.  Pizza sauce is usually OK because there's all that crust to absorb the acid.  This is a pain in the butt for me because I love tomatoes and pretty much anything tomato based.

Re: Gastronautica... The Foodie Thread

One time when I ate at O'Charleys, I ate a ceasar salad and then the next day I felt so bad I could'nt go to school. I could'nt determine whether it was food poisoning or the stomach virus. I was getting sick so much, I lost 7 pounds. It was misrible I did not go to school for 8 days. The dressing on ceasar salad sometimes bothers my stomach, I don't eat ceasar dressing very much.

Re: Gastronautica... The Foodie Thread

Sounds like a case of salmonella. It has happened with salad before.

I didn't have to go to the hospital, I went to the doctor and they just gave me some medicine and I eventually got better.

Re: Gastronautica... The Foodie Thread

Dave and I went to Atkins Park today.  Totally local.  Fantastic menu.  Fried Pickes for an app.  And I had the Eggs Savannah...

Poached atop a buttermilk biscuit with spinach & Hollandaise sauce and crawfish.  Housemade sausage and these really delicate, crispy red onion rings on the side.  Just phenomenal.  And cheap.  We had a super cute waiter and got to sit by the fireplace on this cold, rainy day.  It was a great experience.
