Yah I hope that they stay true to the story. Imagine how cool it will look with all the effects they can create now. Even the castles and such they can create if they don't want to use real backdrops! OH goshy this should be good. Now another question.. what to do about the soundtrack:o! oh thats something else.. will they use modern music or like the more classical kind. Either way im interested to see who else is cast.

I found an article with more detail, but I posted it in the wrong thread. I'll move it. It says it'll be a totally modern story and that they're writing a new script. So it's more of an adaptation like those movies Laura mentioned than a faithful rendering of the play. That might actually be OK. And all of the people working on it are super-talented. I have hope.

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. Emile Hirsch is one of my favorite actors and Catherine Hardwicke is one of my favorite directors. (;

The on-again off-again saga of All the Boys Love Mandy Lane is apparently off again -- for good.
Senator has completely shut down its distribution arm. Basically they have gotten out of the distribution business and will not be putting out any of the films they acquired.
See article:

Chris' co-stars in this movie include Michael Welch, Amber Heard, & Aaron Himelstein.

Damn, that sucks. They can't even sell those films off to someone else?

That's the big question.
It gets complicated because some of the films were produced by others or in alliances with others who are contracted to throw in some or all of the P&A money (marketing), in which case it wouldn't cost Senator much to release them.
In other cases other companies paid some money upfront for marketing but now won't come up with the rest unless Senator puts some in.
But in other cases Senator has to spend all the money, and those are the films they cannot release at all without outside help.
Earlier in the week they said they could release some of the smaller films that don't require much P&A but that was before they shut down the distribution arm.

I wonder if any of Chris's movies that haven't been released yet are affected by this. I don't think so, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know? Is this only affecting theatrical releases?

This doesn't affect their German operations (the link above). Senator US is basically a separate company. Here is the list for the US company:

Chris doesn't have any films with them. There is one, The Informers, with Amber Heard, Aaron HImelstein, and Lou Taylor Pucci, among many others.

It affects all their US releases.

It really stinks. It's always so frustrating to follow indies anyway. And this just drags out an already interminable process!
Offline
And how ironic that they bought the film from Weinstein, who are now on the verge of shutting down themselves.

Yep, ironic indeed. And you're right, Carol. Following indies is maddening!

You always hope you'll at least get an eventual DVD release.

There is a company, E1 Entertainment, which bought the Canadian theatrical rights. If they also purchase the DVD rights and put it out there at least we would have an R1 release.

I was really looking forward to seeing Mandy Lane this July in theaters. I hate that they keep on pushing back the release date.
Offline
Mel, it sounds like the release date isn't just being pushed back now, the movie's never gonna come to US theaters, unless someone buys the distribution rights from Senator. I wonder if that means there's not going to be DVD release either. I guess this is one of the rare times where a US movie has come out in Europe earlier than in the US.

That's correct. The July release date was actually pulled on May 7 and changed to "TBD". On May 14 it was taken off the schedule completely. What happened this week is that the company division putting it out ceased to exist.
It would take too much space here to list all the various milestones but, as TeeJay pointed out, it has been released outside the US both theatrically as well as on DVD at various times over the past couple of years.
The film is available on DVD outside Region 1 (North America). If it can be obtained it can be played in Region 1 on an all-region DVD player, on a computer with software that is region-free or, in many cases, a computer will allow you to play a DVD from other regions by switching the region code on the DVD player in the computer. Usually you can only switch regions a few times, however.
It may be released theatrically in Canada. That company does not have DVD rights but if they are able to obtain them and release it in Canada on DVD, that would be Region 1 which would allow anyone in North America to play it. You'd just have to get it from a Canadian retailer. That's not hard to do. Usually you can get DVDs released in Canada from places like Amazon.
There are a lot of "ifs" here.
Of course there are still other ways of putting it out. For example, many films that go unreleased theatrically make their way to VOD (Video On Demand on cable TV). IFC does this. Other films are distributed online (legally).
I won't discuss illegal ways of obtaining films.
All that said, for people who still want the film to come out in theaters in the US, that can only happen if another company buys it and puts it out, as TeeJay said. They would only do that if they thought they could make the money back.
Lionsgate buys genre films (horror) and exhibits them theatrically in a package (8 Films to Die For). This makes it easier for them to make money since they aren't marketing just one film. A theater will show all 8 films for a limited period of time, so they don't have a long-term commitment. A lot of small horror films have been acquired that way. Then they put it out on DVD both in a package of 8 films as well as individually.
Those are a few ways it might still be obtained now and in the future.

I think if he really didn't wanna be a sex symbol he'd pull his pants up. Just a little. I think he probably felt guilty when every guy in the world said, "She married WHO???" and got himself in even better shape. Oh, my!
