Re: Sequels, Prequels, Reboots, Adapatations

So what do you do when Wesley Snipes won't participate in anymore Blade movies?  Well, first you try to spin off into a TV series that fails miserably.  Then you do a Blade prequel trilogy about Deacon Frost, the bad guy from the first movie.  Yeah, that makes sense...

This one doesn't surprise me a bit.  Other than the fact that it took this long.

You know, it's bad enough when they remake really good movies.  What do you call it when they remake really, really BAD movies...

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41671

It's Alive?  Really?  That needed to be remade?

See?  That's my point.  I happen to be a fan of Larry Cohen's horror/action/exploitation movies, but It's Alive is one of the worst movies he ever made.

Next, they'll remake Food Of The Gods.  roll

quit suggesting things, now they might do it

Of course to tempt fate, how about The Devil's Rain?
Maybe they can get travolta to reprise his role?

Or Kingdom of the Spiders and they can get Shatner.

Maybe I should call an agent and setup some pitches

I have a perfect one...Bug...the one with the cockroaches which shoot fire out of their butts.  It will be awesome with CGI.

Re: Sequels, Prequels, Reboots, Adapatations

Oh yeah, starring the wonderful Bradford Dillman.  Saw that one when I was a kid at this little theater near the apartments where we lived.  I remember they had these cans of bug spray in box office window.  I saw a lot of trashy movies there --- one of which they've already remade, Gone In 60 Seconds.

the bug spray is great.  It played at the Drive-in(big surprise) in my town, so I didn't see it til years later.  I could get my parents to drop me off at the movies, but I could never get them to take me to this kind of movie at the drive-in.

Re: Sequels, Prequels, Reboots, Adapatations

I only remember going to the drive-in with my parents once as a kid, but I do vaguely remember that one of the movies that played that night was horrible piece of borderline porn called Sweet, Sweet Sugar that was actually released as an "adult" title in the 80's when I was working in video.  It was something about a white slavery ring in South America, I think.  I'm sure my mom was horrified by it.

Re: Sequels, Prequels, Reboots, Adapatations

Well, at least they had the good sense to change the title on this bizarre Karate Kid remake they're doing.  Remember when I was griping that it can't be set in China and Jackie Chan can't be a Chinese master if it's Karate in the film because Karate is a Japanese form?  Well, yay, they wised up.  It's now being called The Kung Fu Kid.  Still a stupid idea, if you ask me, but at least they're not screwing it up completely...

Re: Sequels, Prequels, Reboots, Adapatations

I just saw a very cute Fame commercial on TV.  It was a riff on Harry Potter.  It said something like, "There's another school where you can learn to fly, study your craft, and cast a spell."  And then there was a fast series of clips of people dancing and singing.  And the logo is discofabulous!  I love it.  Clever way to sell the movie.

Re: Sequels, Prequels, Reboots, Adapatations

And away we go with the... let's count 'em... 5th(?) incarnation of The Twilight Zone...

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/41736

1. Original series - CLASSIC
2. Twilighht Zone: The Movie - had its moments, like seeing a grown up Bill Mumy in the remake of his classic episode It's A Good Life, the opening with Albert Brooks and Dan Ackroyd, and John Lithgow losing his mind on the plane, but it wasn't worth the deaths it took to make it.
3. The 80's revival of the series - introduced me to Scott Grimes in the ep Little Boy Lost, and had the beautiful heartbreaking Shelly Duvall ep The Saucer Of Loneliness.
4. The 90's revival of the series - I liked the theme music by Korn and the intros by Forrest Whitaker, but I can't even recall a single specific ep that I enjoyed at the moment.

Who knows what to expect from the 5th incarnation?  I do find DiCaprio's involvement interesting, and I like the idea of them resurrecting one (or two) of the classic eps.  Guess we'll have to wait and see how it goes...

Yeah, I've given every other incarnation a chance.  Why not this one?  Unless the casting goes terribly awry.  wink

Re: Sequels, Prequels, Reboots, Adapatations

I gave up before the last version, even though I had liked a few of the 80s series episodes.

And I might as well fess up in this thread because it is the sequel thread.  For my birthday I took my daughter to see Harry Potter at midnight.  The movie was really bad, the worst one of the series (and I did like a few of them).  But then, I didn't go for the movie.  I went for my daughter.  We had fun, even though she didn't like the movie either, She got to be out till 3am (and she still likes doing stuff with her dad, so I am enjoying it while it lasts)

Re: Sequels, Prequels, Reboots, Adapatations

I think we actually have a Harry Potter thread, not that it matters where you post.  I missed the last one and still haven't caught it on cable, so I won't be seeing this one for a while yet.  Since I never read the books, I can take an HP movie or leave it.  Mainly, I only watch for the great "older" cast.  And yeah, OK, I think Grinty boy is adorable.  And I hear he mugs less in this one.  lol

Well, looks like I'm the only one who actually liked The Half-Blood Prince. I've heard two different people saying the first hour really dragged on with all the love story stuff. I actually quite enjoyed that. Maybe you have to be a girl to dig that. wink I really loved the cinematography most of all in this one. Of course it's not a brilliant movie or anything. I felt thoroughly entertained, definitely one of the better movies I've seen this year.

Re: Sequels, Prequels, Reboots, Adapatations

One reason I never found the 90's version of TZ compelling is that the casting was almost always a total bore.  Every ep I saw was populated by actors I'd never heard of or just didn't care about.  In an anthology series, casting is everything, but I know they didn't have much money, so...  Anyway, I just read the cast list for the two repeats that are airing tonight on one of our local cable channels and finally one of the eps has someone I actually really love in it, Linda Cardellini --- starring opposite Method Man, of all people, but still.  I'll definitely check this one out.  smile
